Summer Concerts

Smashing Pumpkins here @ Knoxville on the 23rd

I'm rocking the Ottawa Bluesfest for the next two weeks. I don't want to bog this thread down, so I started another one here.

I think that I am going to have a pretty good summer

Next week:Star Wars in Concert

Next Month: Bugs Bunny in Concert

Labor Day Weekend: Jimmy Buffett

The Next Week: The Lord of the Rings Return of the King, (you guessed it) in concert

my 6 year old son is coming with us to Star wars and Bugs Bunny. I am so excited

Zac Brown Band on Thursday night was fantastic. No Iron Maiden, but these guys are incredibly talented, and they put on a pretty sweet live show.

Favorite parts: The dueling picking contest, 20,000 drunk frat boys singing along to "Toes", and a spontaneous, sped-up version of "The Devil Went Down to Georgia". Least favorite part: Oddly enough -- since my love for prog and metal is well-documented -- it was the lead electric guitarist's 7 minute solo. And while I appreciate the classy gesture, inviting the opening acts back on stage for the finale didn't really do it for me.

This weekend's Iron Maiden concert in Toronto may have ruined me on live shows forever. No way anyone could ever, ever, EVER top the Bruce.

Kat, thats awesome to hear. That was the second coolest concert I ever did see, with Alice Cooper in late 1980's being my all time favorite, due to circumstances outside the actual show...

Iron Maiden released a new video on 7/13 for The Final Frontier, I guess it was directed by some bigwig. Not a great video, but certainly better than their last two stinkers.

Great song though.

I just got back from seeing The Black Seeds for the second time and it was a blast. Highly recommended.

I agree, it's so-so, but hey, I don't love Iron Maiden for their video efforts.

Utterly goofy, per usual. I always found it hilarious when certain people would take about Iron Maiden being TEH EVUL AND STANANIC!!!! I mean, these guys are nerds. HUGE, huge nerds. Awesome rocking nerds, but even Satan would give them a wedgie.

Just watched Pink get yoinked off the stage and into one of the crowd barriers by her wire and harness flying setup. That ended the show.

Apparently, some pigeons didn't like their set.

Apparently the bass player caught some bird poo in his mouth. I think I'd call it a night, too.

My daughter got to take in her first big concert last night, going to see Kings of Leon at our local amphitheater. We had a friend that has been a cool aunt to her since forever take her. They had had a great girl's night out.

Until:

Maryland Heights, MO (KSDK) -- Rock band Kings of Leon canceled its Friday night performance at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater.

The concert was halted after just three songs from the Nashville, Tennessee-based band.

An announcement was made that the concert was being halted for the safety of the band. No other reasons were given.

But she sure seemed to be having a great time until then. Our friend sentaus this pic last night while they were at the show.

Just got back from Primus and Gogol Bordello. Gogol came out during Primus' set and they covered "I'm Big In Japan", it was awesome.

Now to rest up for Rush on Monday!

Just landed a couple Tears For Fears (original lineup) tickets for their 8/23 show at the 9:30 club in DC. I saw them years and years ago, and they're fantastic live.

Woohoo!

Arcade Fire on Toronto Island tomorrow!

Gorillaz tickets just went on sale. Not a summer tour, technically, but still.

Nice! Their Portland date with Wolf Parade was one of the best rock shows i've seen. Great live band.

Saw Arcade Fire last week at MSG. Look forward to it, Clem!

Last night: Grizzly Bear on the beach

It was a pretty sweet show, although I think the year I saw them at Hillside they were better.

See, it's a big band. Lots to look at on stage. When you add in crazy amounts of lighting effects it comes off as overkill. Good setlist though.

And Janelle Monae opened for them and was very enjoyable.

I saw Rush last night and it was epic. The lights, fire and explosions were very appreciated.

I saw The Robert Cray Band on Sunday. I'm used to going to metal/rock concerts, so this was a nice change of pace. Small venue (<500 seats), and everyone was there to enjoy the music, and Robert Cray was in a playful and fun mood. Very good concert.

Just got back from seeing Rush.

It was pretty freaking awesome!

Rush has additional tour legs coming (scroll down), with dates including Greensboro, Austin, and Helsinki.

Who else is on tap for Summer 2011?

So this weekend I saw U2 on Sunday and than again on Wednesday, They were absolutely amazing and put on just a fantastic show, I really would love to see them again soon.

Robert Plant and the Band of Joy is in fine form, I saw them in Denver a few weeks ago. He did about 6 Zeppelin songs, plus several from Raising Sand. Tour info.

The free Monday concert series that takes place downtown Chicago in Millennium Park started a couple of weeks ago. I'll be attending Iron & Wine this Monday. Not a huge fan but it's free. Plus, seems like everyone's going so I'll go just to be social. Later this month, Low will be playing. And the one I'm super excited for is Ted Leo & The Pharmacists in late July.

Not making it to any festivals this year. Realized last year that I kinda hate them. In fact, anything where the crowd is bigger than 3 digits has a high chance of making me a grump.

Why do you hate fun?

I like fun, just not people.

I'm going to see Phish this summer.

I've listened to all of about 4 Phish songs in my entire life, but a couple of my buddies are giant Phish Phans, and hippies to boot. So what the hell.

Wasn't sure where else to put this, so.

Now that I live closer to a large market where lots more bands come to play, and now that I have a job again, I am looking to go to as many concerts as humanly possible.

Does anyone have a site they use that tracks upcoming concerts by genre/venue/dates etc.? It gets tedious having to just go through my playlist and check each band's website for tour dates. Events slip through the cracks that way.
