Now I'm just confused.

And scarred

My argument is that the damage from the kind of explosion at the end of the movie should leave a crater, not a bunch of rubble, not to mention that the atmosphere processor should, if I'm understanding it right, leave the rock without an atmosphere (as it was in Alien). Of course they'll send more marines, but any marines that arrived after the original group shouldn't find much at all.

Not without an atmosphere, but it will no longer be able improve the atmosphere. It's a terraforming colony; the goal is to slowly transform the existing atmosphere into something breathable by humans. Some progress had been made by the processor before it was destroyed. That progress doesn't just revert now that the processor is gone.

They could have had other atmosphere processors on the planet too.

I say we grease this ratf*ck sonofaFemale Doggo right now.

Game over, man. Game over!

All right, we waste him. No offense.

Adding to the nerd minutia here but... I think it was Joystiq's article that implies that this new group of marines finds the Sulaco abandoned in orbit around LV426. So, that kind of breaks continuity with Alien 3 unless that lifepod could drift a very long time and the acid accident happened while that ship was still in orbit.

All in all, if they can bring the same suspense and action as the first two original AvP games then I'll be pretty happy. I played 10 minutes of that craptastic game from last year and that was enough to realize I had no interest in it.

I thought it was a lifepod that crashed onto the prison planet ... ?

What am I talking about, there was no Aliens 3. Or anything after that. There's just blank spaces in my Quadrilogy for more dvds, that's all.

What Garion said.

That's... awesome.

I sense a new icon.

It was the life pods, but they were ejected by the Sulaco as it traveled home from LV426. So no, it doesn't really fit that it'd be found in orbit around LV426.

See, Clock? That's how you complain about continuity.

I watched Aliens again last night as I hadn't seen it in ages. It's a damn fine movie.

It's a well-directed movie, but I can't get past the really, really cheesy dialogue. I watched it again recently with my wife, who had never seen it before, and it was a little embarrassing. The sound effects, music, pacing, and special effects, however? Damn perfect.

I want to say things that Certis would not approve of.

I kinda liked the cheesy dialogue. For some reason, it seems to fit the movie. I just mainly love the mom vs. mom climax. I had forgotten about that part. It's such a great way to end a movie.

James Cameron always has great ideas for scenes, like the battle of the mothers that wraps up Aliens, and he's a technically superb director. I just wish he'd hire someone else to write the screenplays for his story ideas because his dialogue is often horrible. He's better than Christopher "Exposition is the Soul of Wit" Nolan, but not by much. It takes a really talented actor (like Sigourney Weaver) to make those lines seem like something someone would actually say.

You're making it worse.

11 minute video of the demo from E3. Now I really can't wait for this game.

I just watched that. And now, I'm going to dig out the AvP2 discs.

All the basic stuff I want is there.. but I'm glad that's really early footage cause it's super rough around the edges and some things like sound (which needs to be Dead Space levels of amazing to really fit the movie) seem really underwhelming.

Huh, that is interesting. On the surface, it looks pretty boring except for the fact that it's part of the Aliens franchise. I immediately thought: "this looks like dead space 1/2 but bad." That seems to be your impression as well, Thin_J. That being said... ALIENS!

One of the things about Aliens is that I think there's different valid approaches to it, there's obviously the horror/suspense aspect, and the backs to the wall shooter. This seems to be a game with marines and lots of guns, I expect shooting.

I like excited Randy the most.

Embedding for those too lazy to click the above link (and it's easier to see for those filthy skimmers).

Lobster, perhaps you should change the thread title.

giggitty...?

I think its exciting that they seem to have some level of official support on picking up directly after the Aliens storyline. I know other Aliens games have taken elements set in Aliens and massaged them into a game, but... this brings the hope of a real continuation.
