Dead Island

I really liked it, plenty of possibilities (once you turn off the health bars) Open ended world full of zombies, "questing", great atmosphere, melee combat, 4 players-coop and bikinis.

I like what I see, even if isn't exactly what that cinematic trailer implied. Getting a Zombie-Melee-RPG Farcray 2 feel from it.

I was thinking the same thing. It looks quite good when the weather effects really start to kick up too. Looks very promising.

Me too - wonder how the co-op is going to work.

The melee combat it a bit too gruesome for me. I don't really want to see that level of detailed gore (Hopefully, if I watch enough preview videos, I may be completely desensitised by the time it releases.) I was also hoping it would be a more serious take rather than having the Dead Rising 'bashing zombies for fun' feel.

I was worried about it ending up being a Dead Rising clone, and so far my fears are only slightly abated. Now it just looks like a Dead Rising clone with XP. And even worse one-liners. And super-serious music.

I thought it looked like Borderlands crossed with Left 4 Dead - and I really liked the look of it.

I don't know, the melee combat looks like it's going to be pretty dull. How the co-op works is going to be key for me.

All I can say to "Borderlands crossed with Left 4 Dead" is SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

I hope it doesn't suck.

It looks good, don't get me wrong. I had a very minor issue with the dust thing before, but that was explained and makes sense to me now. Otherwise, I thought the game looks good, and the gameplay rather fun, but from the video it didn't look too far removed from Dead Rising, which is what worries me. The four-player co-op aspect sounds cool, but I rarely play multiplayer games anymore, so I'm not sure how sold I am on that aspect.

I'm interested, but I do get a Farcry 2 feeling from it all. I really thought I'd like Farcry 2, but it didn't hook me.

Far Cry 2 was the first thing that popped in my mind too. Something with the way the first-person POV, hands grabbing everything in front of your face is handled, and the way the jungle terrain is rendered too. However I loved FC2, so this is a plus in my book!

I liked Dead Rising, but the save point system utterly killed it for me; I played a mission for something like 45 minutes, died at the end, and had to start over. It went immediately back in the GameFly envelope; I just don't have time anymore to go through the same missions multiple times. If it's Dead Rising with a real save system, I'm all for it.

Same frustrations with Dead rising. I'll definitely give it a rental.

I had kind of thought (given the first teaser trailer) that there would be an infection mechanic to the game besides the, "oh, you've taken too much damage, so you're dead now," that 99% of games use. Granted, I think it would have been complicated to model this and keep gameplay fun, but I'm disappointed that this isn't one of the new things that Dead Island is going to bring to the table.

You may end up looking like the Black Knight by the end of it but damn if it wouldn't be a fun 5 minutes.

Kind of a reverse perk system.

Perk lost: Dual wielding.

Or, you can continue to dual-wield, but run the risk of the infected hand being possessed and trying to kill you when you use the equipped weapon. let the infection spread, and more of your body betrays you in different ways. Legs are infected, you try to run from the zombies, but your legs draw you closer of their own volition.

Party of 3 looking for a fourth!

Wouldn't it be cool if you were bitten and you chose to hide it and ever so slowly your objectives changed just random letters and finally you finish the game when you kill one of the survivors? Or if your objectives change when they kick you out of the complex to various kinds of sabotage?

I'd just like to say thanks. That gave me a great big belly laugh.

While on Treasure Island, Fiji for my Honeymoon I ran the zombie survival scenarios through my head. There is a surprising lack of suitable and accessible weaponry on a resort Island.

Ice picks.... conch shells..... coconuts......

I'm sure there's more than you're willing to think of

What are you killing? Schoolboys? That's no zombie-slaying weapon.

Sure it is. You just take it and . . . I apologize in advance . . . conch them on the head.

I just thought you said, "Hey, pig. Yeah, you," then stab them with a sharpened branch in [censored].

Huh...Congrats, and zombies!

I enjoyed what I take to be Justin McElroy's commentary on the initial Dead Island trailer with his updated box art here: http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/30/de... (warning, remember the initial trailer and decide for yourself whether work and kid friendly or not).

The E3 drop in drop out footage of the multiplayer was awesome though from previews and the latest trailer I'm feeling confused. It seems their going for emotional and joking. So their gonna have a rapper cussing about how zombies are below him and the next second you might see a 18-20 year old kill her father?

What the hell is this game?

I mean I'm excited in all but I seriously can not get a grasp on the messages it is trying to send now.

Side note, surprised this thread didn't get a bump of new activity after E3. Guess everything else had more coverage and thus were more interesting to everyone.

Yeah, this has become a wait and see title for me. I don't trust anything they're putting out, but I'm still interested in seeing the final product.
