There is a trailer here.

Anno 2070, the latest iteration of the award-winning real-time strategy and simulation franchise, takes players to whole a new era in a world inspired by today’s challenges and tomorrow’s technologies.

Anno 2070 offers players the ability to be architects of the future and create the world of tomorrow.

KEY FEATURES
A New Era - While adhering to the fundamentals that made the Anno franchise a success, the near-future setting will bring numerous new gameplay mechanics, architectural breakthroughs, and all new challenges. Additionally, players will be able to build massive cities, the scope of which has never been seen in prior Anno games.

A Dynamic World - The world of Anno 2070 will evolve differently depending on each player’s playing style and choices.

Factions - Players will be able to select between two factions when building their empires. Players can choose between an industrial and efficient way or a direction that is more sustainable and environmentally friendly.

Outstanding Graphics - A new version of the engine, developed specifically by Related Designs for Anno 2070, allows the game to deliver a breathtaking visual experience never before seen in the Anno franchise.

Rich and Varied Game Modes
Single player campaign - A story-driven single player mode with a deep variety of challenges.
Single player “continuous mode” - The renowned endless game mode where the objective is to build the biggest civilization possible without time constraints.
Multiplayer - Anno 2070 will include various multiplayer modes.

*checks the date* Wait... WHAT?!

Yeah, I'm looking forward to this too. I think 1404 (aka Dawn of Discovery) really nailed the formula that this series has been trying to craft over the years and I am extremely interested to see what they can do when they can shed to pseudo-medieval trappings of the past games.

Thumbs UP! Hopefully they are looking at a portable version, as they have with the last couple. The idea of a 3d city builder is pretty much what sold me the system.

Very excited about this. It's almost as if they read my mind, too, because as much as I enjoyed the 1404, I told myself that I hoped they would do something truly different for the next installment.

Looks cool.

Why did it have to be UbiSoft?

Oh.

I thought they quit with that constant connection requirement stuff.

That's what they claimed. I guess we'll see.

Is there a reason we don't have the release date in the OP?

Fall 2011 is what I have seen.

I didn't play the other historical one, but this looks really cool. Looking forward to more information

I have played all the series, and it surprised me this is the direction it took, but it looks really cool.

Anno 1404 sold me on this series, and I just found out about this one today. Tagging the thread while I wait patiently for Q4.

Blown away by their choice to go futuristic. Makes me happy (as ye olden days were getting a bit stale).

I realize it won't be combat heavy but this might the closest we've gotten to a modern Alpha Centauri. Sign me up.

If Ubisoft is sensible about their DRM on this, they've sold me a copy.

Ditto.

I am also a big fan and will be all over this.

Yep. That was the only reason I didn't pick up 1404 at launch...

That makes 4 of us then (and I am sure many, many more).

Yeah, I would have bought 1404 in a heartbeat, except for the DRM. Was that removed?

1404 was released pre-Ubi DRM. Purchase away.

It has Tages, not that online crap.

Given the history of Related Design, I wouldn't be surprised if they're going to end up using Tages again - it's been around since Anno 1701 after all. The official release target is "Winter 2011". Funnily enough, it wasn't mentioned in Ubisoft's recent outlook for the current fiscal year at all.

FYI, 2070 was one out of 10 concept pitches BlueByte and RD toyed around with internally for Anno 5. They were also thinking about Anno 1800 or an Anno set in the ancient world. The future setting prevailed because it meant less restrictions regarding new game mechanics and ideas.

It was removed on the base game (DVD version anyway). The expansion (which was download only I think) still has Tages activation. My biggest issue with Tages is that there's no "revoke" tool. Once you use your 3 activations, you're done.

Since the DVD version is the only one without Tages, it's the only version I'd consider buying (if I hadn't already). Incidentally, you can get the DVD version for under $10 on Amazon these days.

3 activations, no revokes? Ugh. If that's the case, I'll pass. As someone who likes to replay old games, that kind of ruins it for me.

Would the steam version still have the DRM problems?

If they still sold Dawn of Discovery in Steam (listed as N/A right now) it's still listed as having Tages.
