The Witcher 2 Catch-All

If you can run it, I wouldn't worry too much. Although it has all the options you can turn on, so much of what makes it pretty is the environments and how the game shows them to you. It seems to be very efficient too, which I think is partially down to a good engine, and partially down to the designers knowing where detail is needed so they don't have to brute force it.

Also, is use of swearing and overheard conversations as brilliant in English version? Those two are my favourite things in W2, but I'm not sure how some of that sounds to English ears.

The dialogue, and voice acting, from the NPCs standing around is great in the English version I haven't heard all that much swearing yet (I've pretty much just started Act I) so I can't comment on that.

Really? I only just started into act 1 this morning before work and the game's been swearing up a storm so far, which is hilarious.

BTW - Is it just me or is the interface (especially the skill tree) remarkably close in terms of asthetics to the Dragon age 2 menus? All clean lines and clutter-free. One of the few things I liked about DA2 and it works well here as well.

Also loving the 'hand-drawn' flashback cutscenes.

Didn't get much playtime in as I was exhausted and went to bed early.
Is there a manual available somewhere? I wasn't paying much attention to the tutorial tips and I forgot what some of the signs do.

All tutorials are stored in journal.

I have only been playing for about an hour but man the combat controls are like wrestling 2 wet pigs. Wet pigs with large swords you make you dead easily while you try to bend your fingers in strange shapes to parry and roll or shoot some magic, god forbid actually swing.

I am hoping something in the interface clicks for me at some point because its been nothing but frustrating so far.

One thing that's nice is that they include a game guide with it, which means there's no digging around the internet looking for a walkthrough if you get stuck or to see what you've missed. I'm going to leave it alone for my first playthrough though.

Attn CD Projekt, I am not German, no need to punish me for '39.

Its better than it was in The Witcher. I never really liked the whole timing and swinging. But I agree combat controls are really sluggish. Best advice is Quen (Magic Shield) & Spacebar to tumble are your best friends.

Also did anyone else really really hate the "Carry King across bridge with Dragon Chasing" platform scene? Why was that even in there? I'm on normal and reloaded no less than 20 times to finally get through it. Really dumb and non-intuitive use of the right mouse button IMO.

Also, I hope the Prologue is not an introduction to the difficulty of the game. If so I might have to drop the difficulity to easy.

PS. Towards the end of the prologue, if you keep refusing to agree to help your Jailer (Forgot his name)... Let's just say its not like most RPG's where every route leads to the same conclusion.

This got me so mad. The beauty of Act 1 only barely got me over that infuriating decision.

Sorry if this has been covered already, but have those who bought through Steam figured out where to get your CD Key so you can register the game and download the DLC?

Right click on the title usually Zero.

Yeah, it's not there for this one.

Mine was pre-filled in when I went to register Zero. Not sure where it is :/

I turned off "difficult QTEs" before I even started playing so I didn't have to time anything in that scene

Interesting. Maybe if I run the launcher from the Steam app rather than directly that will be the case. Well, I'll give it a try when I get home I guess.

Kyrieee is wise. I saw that in the options and disabled difficult QTEs right away. I'll take that in any game I play, sight unseen. The dragon bridge part was perfectly nice and dramatic for me

Triss kept shooting me.

I figured out how to register and download the troll DLC last night, it says it is ready for installation now, but I can't figure out how to install it. Any ideas?

I had to select to download it from the DLC menu, get it down, then go back into the DLC menu and click install.

Ahh thanks I didn't even think to go back there to look.

It wanted to be started with admin rights for the install, which steam wouldn't do. So I had to find the witcher exe and run it as administrator outside of steam.

You don't have to fill out the code, just click 'download' and you're good to go.

Anyone know the "take all" button?

Edit: Nevermind, it appears to be "space"

With Crossfire disabled, witcher2.exe I get ~60fps inside the tent and ~45 fps outside the tent.

This is with settings between High and Ultra, 2 5850s and a Q6600.

Guess I'll just wait for new crossfire profiles. :?

Thanks, I have a 5850 and a Q6600. You just gave me the exact benchmark I needed.

Something to consider: TW1 saves were around 20 MB apiece. That adds up super fast if you are quicksaving. TW2 saves are 3-4 MB when you include the BMP image with each save. That is fantastic! I can save as much as I want and it's not going to get me to 1 GB worth of saves.

Also, I'm house sitting until Friday, so I can't play anymore TW2 until then.

This game is so awesome.

More on that, TW1 makes a new save with every quicksave, while TW2 makes a new save for each autosave/checkpoint but keeps one quicksave.

Polish language is up on the DLC menu.

Hmm, I've run into a problem with a side quest in A1. When I complete it the screen fades to black and doesn't fade back in, so I need to kill the game process. It's a very minor quest so it's not a big deal but a bit annoying. I also have two that aren't marked on my map, but that might be because I need to explore more.

Look at the Readme file on The Witcher 2 launcher. It goes into detail of which options are CPU heavy, and which are GPU heavy. Also a description to each option.

So um, how do I check my fps while in game? Some third party software?

I just set it to high and it's been quite smooth. You know, I got frustrated at first with dying in combat and then basically arrived at same strategy as above. Shield up, wade in and kill weak guy, roll away. Trap the guys with shields. One more: lead them into a bottle neck, like an arched entrance, and throw a bomb, and then wade into them. Very effective.

I wanted to wait to read here til I'd done prologue....luckily before finding out the cut scene thing I only did dragon bridge 4 times. My only gripe really is that I can't really see which mouse button to hit as their icons for RMB and LMB during key points are really, really small. That and arm wrestling. Holy crap is that hard for me. I gave up.

Beautiful game. Great voice acting. Peaking in on someone whose only purpose is to demonstrate their ability to swear in English: priceless. Very damned funny.

So um, spoiler question:

Spoiler:

Is it really worth my time to quick save and load a billion times to sneak to the part behind the Flotsam lord's house? I keep getting caught again and again and again....

I would go back and do it. You miss out on some experience (Edit) and lots of loot.

Spoiler:

Just make sure you sneak up behind all the guards and disable them with a right click. It's actually not all that hard if you take them on one by one and clear out the map.

Use fraps to see your framerate, take screenshots, and record video. It's free.

As to the whole QTE thing. I did not turn it off. It doesn't bother me. Somehow I managed not to die on the bridge part.
