The Witcher 2 Catch-All

I'm getting my butt handed to me in the prologue. I think I'd rather play this one with a controller. Wish I could find one of those wireless 360 dongles locally since I already have two wireless controllers. Oh well.

I think I missed a few of the tips, because I can't figure out how to use the bombs or potions in my inventory (again, still in the prologue).

Time to try again.

Looks like the BioWare metacritic guy has struck again(?)
edit: maybe it's not actually the same guy

CD Project releases another misogynistic jaunt into the Mary Sue world of 'the witcher.' There is hardly anything of substance to recommend this train wreck to a discerning connoisseur of RPGs. Every element of its design can be described as 'embarassingly awkward.' Animation, art direction, dialogue, writing, combat. It's a list of sad mediocrities as long as your arm. The fact of the setting and characters being a shameless copy of Michael **** classic Elric of Melniboné series aside, the game itself behaves like a confused child. Does it want to be a brawler with peripheral RPG elements? Or an action RPG with brawler combat? In either situation the designers have failed to deliver on both satisfying combat or a compelling story that ever rises above the juvenile. Look to the masters at BioWare with their latest RPG epic, Dragon Age 2, for inspiration in your future games, CD Project. You certainly won't find it making shallow sex simulators based on plagiarized fantasy novels.

Well, I'll give Bioware the fact that they've got some fans really invested in their games. I just love how some people really get bent out of shape over a number on some website. If M_Stannard had just given it a slightly low score like a 7 it would still influence the average but without the internet outrage. One thing I'd like to see Metacritic do would be to put a 2 week after release embargo on when users can add scores, which may put off a few people that make it their mission in life to bomb a number on a website.

I don't know much about Metacritic, but aren't the user reviews worthless anyway? They are a separate score as I understand.

How do I access that Preorder stuff on the screen. Something about an Ogre or such. It says I need a Preorder code, which I have the super fancy schmancy GoG version. The normal register code doesn't work for that either

Btw, so far I only got past the opening cinematic but it looks wonderful. I can only put it on low, but even then, it looks pretty damn good

If you go to "My Games" or whatever it's called on gog.com, you can either right click or hover over the game to bring up a popup of all the content. For some of it, you have to scroll down to see. It's easy to miss. The free game can be had by clicking the link in your confirmation email.

In the readme it mentions that the computer CPU detection is wonky. Mine detects as low, but I've put it on high and customised it a bit, perfectly smooth.

Regarding the Troll Trouble DLC, you can ignore the registration code box and just hit download, then go back in and tell it to install, then run TW2. The english language DLC stuff is a bug from what I can gather.

Is there any way to play with the Polish voice acting with the steam version? Is this even something I should worry about? I like playing/watching stuff in the original language when possible. Is it fair to say that Polish is the language it was intended to be played in?

I played a little bit of the prologue before I went to work this morning. No invert y-axis option for mouse or gamepad (although I'm grateful for 360 pad support). Hopefully they fix that soon because the game, so far is impressive.

What?!? This is a deal breaker for me. Unfortunately I am am so stuck in my ways I can't play a game without inverted Y axis support. I'll look for a work around and post what i find.
Edit:
open the
[drive][name]\My Documents\Witcher 2\Config\User.ini

file and find the MouseSensitivityY token... change it's value to negative by adding '-' before the number.

example: MouseSensitivityY=0.163462
becomes MouseSensitivityY=-0.163462

This only makes the camera reverse axis, within menus it goes back to normal!

Yeah, I don't see why one guy who gave it a 0 is any less sleazy or unreliable then the dozens of reviews giving it a 10 and saying it is dramatically superior to DA2, especially considering all those reviews were posted within an hour of the game being released.

Cool. I saw on the GOG forums that there was also some stuff to input to invert the y-axis on a gamepad. I'll have to try it out when I get home.

The combat currently has me over a barrel and has had it's way with me several times. You really need to read the manual to digest everything. There's no kid gloves here.

Sweet, I can do that at work before I head home (early of course).

Abusing the Quen (shield) sign helps a load. This is not like TW1 at all, where you could 'simply' get into a rhythm of timing your strokes for the combo and keep going. You have to be aware of a lot more going on and react to it.

Looking at the contents of a Collector's Edition all over the table...
...damn, that's a lot of swag.

I don't know if it was worth the cash, but the missus really wanted that Geralt bust.

Edit: And now I'm slightly worried about it.

rainynight65 did a little unboxing of his CE on Twitter, the dice and cards look sweet. Bust is cool but there's no way I would have that out collecting dust, I really wish there was an in between special edition.

Surprisingly, my favourite thing is something that comes with every non-CE copy: the envelope containing an oren and a propaganda letter comparing one of the kings to a pig and announcing his upcoming demise.

For those of us who've lost their original Witcher save, here's a thread at Gamefaqs of people exchanging saves: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/97539...

This is the best resource of Witcher 1 endgame saves that I could find.

What's this about no Crossfire profile update for The Witcher 2? Gaahhhhh. I always forget it takes AMD a month to get their sh*t together.

Edit: Looks like renaming "witcher2.exe" in the bin folder to "CompatAFR-1x1.exe" apparently gets crossfire working.

TW2 is ploughing awesome.

I second that, just finished the prologue. Freakin' excellent so far.

There's not in the GOG version but the voice acting (and more importantly the flow of conversations and story) is MUCH improved in the second game compared to the first.

re: DLC and registration - from the official website:

Dear Fans!

We ask for a little bit of your patience while we make some adjustments and optimizations to the servers hosting The Witcher 2.

Planned time of the downtime: 23:30
Planned downtime: 40 minutes

Problems that may occur:
- new users won't be able to register the game
- users won't be able to download the DLCs (lang packs, patch, addons)

Affected:
- all users

We apologize you for any inconvenience and will do our best to bring back the services working ASAP.

I got to the part from this trailer, the cutscene in the cave

But the voice acting is completely changed and much worse =((
I really liked the VO in that trailer dammit. The one in the game sounds like placeholder
The guy who says "prepare to fight and ready yourselves to avenge.." at 1:15 is also changed.

Whyyyy? I'm seriously a bit bummed, I watched that trailer lots of times because I liked the gravelly voices so much.

How is this running for you guys? I was browsing the Steam forums and it looks like it has some optimization/driver problems.

Question, guys: did you guys import your TW1 characters? I started up TW2 last night and it said I had no character to import. And I went into my TW1 folder and it looks like the game didn't autosave when I completed it. And I wasn't in the mood to go though the epilogue again at that time. Is there a specific trigger at the end of TW1 where it'll autosave? Like after the credits or something like that? I think I'll try and finish it up (again) tonight.

From what I've read, TW1 doesn't have an after the game save. Your last autosave should work.

I like the part where this game gets BETTER AND BETTER AND BETTER.

Man, I really like the world and the characters. I don't want to sh*t on Dragon Age too much but I just think this is so much better.

Installing the game on my desktop now. Gonna give that renaming the .exe I mentioned earlier a try and see if crossfire works. I will let you guys know if it does.

It actually worked pretty good for me to order it from gog.com because I have enough extra space on my SSD OS drive to install the game. heheh

Beat me to the post. I did this so I could get back my Witcher 1 Triss/Neutral save that I lost with a computer rebuild.

I'm having trouble getting my Logitech gamepad to be recognized by the game - do I need to use the profiler? Anyone had any luck, or am I just a moron?
