Longshot I know, but does anyone have an X52 Pro profile for Freespace 2?

I just picked this up after listening to the podcast, and would like to use it.

I saw that.. but the file is gone.

Ah, sorry, that's all I got. I use to have an X52, but I sold it off a few years ago.

Ouch... that was kind of painful to watch. Being a kid and getting Star Raiders for the 2600 was practically life changing for me. My Dad and I played it constantly! Seeing what they're doing with these nostalgia remakes is pretty disappointing.

Ugh that QL of Star Raiders looked really boring... Its flying controls are just baffling to me.

Are they releasing Space Pirates and Zombies on steam? If so I'm buying it. The total biscuit video looks impressive.

They mention it's coming to GamersGate, but I didn't see anything about Steam or D2D, though they do say it will come to other digital distributors.

From their forums:

We will submit to Steam soon. They rejected us once in the past, so we're trying to build some buzz before we attempt them again.

I don't think I've seen this one mentioned yet: Space Pirates and Zombies.

The beta is supposed to come out on Impulse today for $15. There are two ~30 minute YouTube gameplay videos on the website, too.

Edit: Available now.

If you buy the game, you can use the coupon code SURVEY2010 to get %10 off. Whatever you do, make sure you're using the GWJ Impulse client

Does the GWJ Impulse client still do anything special since GameStop Impulse stopped the affiliate program?

Nope. In that gamestop/impulse thread, one of our benevolent overlords said the affiliate thing is over.

Impulse has been uninstalled.

Hopefully next Sins standalone releases on Steam eventually.

Well as soon as they release Space Pirates and Zombies on steam, they can have my money. Impulse is a no fly zone as far as I'm concerned.

Someone let me know if anyone ever manages to remake Starflight or Starflight 2. I lost an amazing amount of time to those two games.

I still have both of them but have no idea if the disks are still good. It isn't like I've seen a 5 1/2 inch drive around in a while anyway.

A quick search revealed... Starflight

And a fan-made sequel Starflight The Lost Colony, has beta downloads, as recent as April 27.

And Starflight the Remake was apparently in progress. Although the main site I see linked several places is down.

Sentinel Wars! I loved that game as a kid, and it's in my queue to play it again, as I suspect I'll appreciate it more as an adult. So awesome that you have it there.

Oh, and for anyone looking for an actually realistic space flight simulator, may I present Orbiter.

Beware, this spaceflight stuff is way harder than it looks.

You just rekindled a childhood longing -- I remember seeing magazine ads for (the C64 version of) Starflight and thinking it looked like the best game ever, but I never got to play it.

I wonder how well it holds up.

Well, boo. Good to know.

I believe you can emulate Starflight on Dosbox. It seems like I played it on Fahrenheit 449 (my computer) at some point during the last year or so.

Starflight is awesome, and it does indeed work in DosBox. I have it set up with a copy that's directly from the original disks. That turned out to be the tricky part, actually, since 5.25" floppy drives are hard to come by. Now it resides safely on my desktop.

I set DosBox up to auto-backup the directories too, since it's too easy to accidentally lose a saved game otherwise.

I've played Starflight relatively recently on a Genesis emulator, as that was my introduction to it. Great graphics on that version. I had Starflight 2 on the PC, but never beat it.

Wow, I thought I was the only one that played Sentinel Wars.

Throwing my post in here (that's what I do) to keep track of all this space-simmy goodness. I want to buy SPAZ on Impulse. Should I do it? Or should I wait?

I too want SPAZ, but I'm waiting till it comes out on Steam.

I bought it after playing the demo. I figured $15 on Impulse is better than $20 on Steam ... unless it comes out discounted.

The demo really sold me though. I wanted to play more and once something gets its hooks in me I have trouble fighting that off.

1 garion333 - Does the game hold up after playing past the limits of the demo?

2 A developer rep told me the Impulse key would be transferable to Steam. I'm not sure if that is possible but that's what Blorf (Andrew Hume) said.

2.5 Here are some excerpts from my email exchange. The interesting stuff is in bold by me.

FROM BLORF

We have not confirmed that there will be a Steam release, but we do know that if there is a Steam release we will be able to transfer the Impulse keys to Steam.

MORE FROM BLORF

We will likely release within 6-8 weeks. In that time, we plan to do a lot of tuning and to add some new content as well. Even after release we are planning on adding content.. As it stands currently, SPAZ is a complete game, but it will get better as time progresses.

I think it gets better, actually. Once the training wheels come off it's a better game overall as you do missions and gain more ships. The level progression/rpg aspects keep things interesting.

I still have yet to encounter the zombie part of the game, though, so I can't comment on that. There's a TON of space to explore in the standard 200-star maps.

And I believe the devs aren't saying there will be a Steam release because they got rejected earlier in the dev cycle. If I remember correctly, they've resubmitted and are waiting to hear back from Steam. If Terraria got released in an alpha stage I cannot see Steam denying SPAZ again when it's this polished. This beta plays like the full game (as Blorf mentioned). I'm happy with my purchase, that's for sure.

Oh, and pro tip: You can only save when you're at your home base (which comes with you to each new star). When I played the demo I thought the save was disabled, but you just have to go back to the home base to save.

Just got SPAZ on Impulse on an impulse. LAUGH DAMMIT!

SPAZ FAQ:

WHAT DISTRIBUTION METHODS WILL SPAZ USE?
We are currently signed on to use Impulse, GamersGate, and BMT Micro. Shortly after beta release we plan to expand to use additional distribution platforms

Still not giving Gamestop my money. I can wait for GamersGate, or yes, possibly Steam.
