SWTOR: Catch-All

Every so often i dip my toes into the official forums. There's a conversation brewing in the Consular thread that i've seen in others and curious about how people here are going to play with their advance classes and of course their role with the Trinity.

The past few playthrough events have had them show that you dont need the complete Trinity to get through a dungeon. One of the last ones had a group of BH and SI do a flash point by themselves with no dedicated healer. Just their own out of combat self heals. They were able to finish it. Granted this was one found around level 8 or so but it illustrates how the lines of the Trinity are getting blurred.

Which where some of the controversy is coming in. One side is planning to take their AC class and try to go hybrid with their talent points between the 3 trees. Others are of course sticking mainly to one path to maximize their role.

So what are you folks doing?

I'll let ya know when we are able to play and have full access to the finalized trees/skills.

To actually answer the question: On my Main Trooper, I plan on being mostly DPS with a slant toawrds grenades and a smattering of healing.

As a Sith Inquisitor, I'm thinking DPS/Healing hybrid, leaning towards the Sith Sorcerer side.

How about Viacon? No wait, that doesn't work either...

I'm still not completely sold on the game, but if I do end up playing I'm planning on rolling an Inquisitor, specializing in Force Lightning. I don't know or care what role/specialization that is, I just want to go full Palpatine and shoot a ton of lightning at dudes.

I'm so glad that this is becoming a thing

I hope the character customization has a lumpy forehead option.

I'm just going to try most of them once the game launches and just stick with whatever I like the most. I can never figure out ahead of time. Right now I'm saying tank trooper but then again I said I was going to be a warrior in rift but ended up playing a rogue, I was going to be a berserker in EQ2 but ended up playing a necro for 3 years. My personal preference prognostication powers are apparently lacking.

I thought the rule was to never go FULL Palpatine.

I just plan on dropping bombs on foos...so whatever that means on class, thats what i'm doing.

I'm trying to go in without a lot of preview but as far as class, I want Gunslinger so I can melt faces.

I'm sitting in my classroom with students doing work and I'm reading your post...I started cracking up. Big time disruption.

They posted their upcoming conference schedule. So if they do intend to launch this year the latest will be early November?

ELECTRONIC ENTERTAINMENT EXPO, JUNE 7 – 9, 2011

SAN DIEGO COMIC CON, JULY 21 – 24, 2011

GAMESCOM, AUGUST 17 – 21, 2011

PENNY ARCADE EXPO, AUGUST 26 – 28, 2011

EUROGAMER EXPO, SEPTEMBER 22 – 25, 2011

NEW YORK COMIC CON, OCTOBER 13 – 16, 2011

PARIS GAMES WEEK, OCTOBER, 2011

DREAMHACK, NOVEMBER 24 – 27, 2011

Based on that list, I'd say sometime around the Eurogamer Expo. Probably a couple weeks after.

Edit: I'd think E3 would be a good time to announce a release date.

Interesting comment from an interview with Bioware's Docs

And the actual act of launching the game, you don't go from like zero to 60 in half a second. You have to build that over time. So, I think one of the key things is how we actually scale the population base, how many units are out at retail at various times, and how we grow. Because really it's the long-term goal you have to look at. You really have to look at the long view. It's very different than, I think, what the traditional boxed product view is these days, which is your first two months it everything, right? Our first two years is just the beginning.

So if this goes even more gangbusters than intended it could be possible they sell out at launch time.

I guess that means they've got plans to cope with whether their game sells big or small numbers.

Sounds similar to the early WoW days when Bliz had to stop printing copies of WoW, print more, or couldn't keep up with server load, or something along those lines. I guess it's a problem you want to have, and it's probably a small investment to work out how to deal with it rather than be taken by surprise.

In the age of digital distribution I just can't see supply constraints being that big of an issue for an online PC game. Wal-Mart sold out? Nothing at Best Buy? Just download it from the BioWare/EA site and start playing.

Not a matter of supply running out than its them not selling anymore after a certain point to regulate their server populations.

The other things I'm thinking about is getting keys to people, as some people still like buying a box, and the visibility of a retail box. I still think there's the 'big bang' effect for sales, where your best chance to sell in numbers is in the first few weeks, even though it's an MMO it'll still be important.

Anyone able to log into the official site? I was earlier today and now even after resetting my password it's not letting me in.

Just tested it, logged in without any problems..

I couldn't log in, but to be honest it is almost midnight on a friday and I am slightly drunk and more then likely just can't remember my password.

Login works for me.

On the launch thing, all I really have to say is that while I can understand them wanting to keep from being overwhelmed, and I can see the concern over server consolidations, but they really need to be ready to surge support if there's strong demand at launch. In other words, they might not want to do 0-60 at launch, but they damn sure better get over that.

This is what my gunslinger will look like:

Just google searched for Twilek for some reason in the past and the pic was applicable. Don't google search at work though, that would be...unwise.
