NFL 2011 Draft Thread

Yeah, when Minnesota has a $5 billion deficit is the perfect time to pay for a new stadium for a billionaire owner. What's eight hundred million dollars between friends?

http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcnorth/pos...

* The retractable roof wasn't the only surprise. The Vikings' offer of $407 million was nearly double what they have previously committed to stadium projects.
* According to a news release, Ramsey County would raise $350 million through a 0.5 percent sales tax. Bennett said he had the votes to pass the tax on his county board.
* The state of Minnesota would contribute $300 million through user-fee taxes.
* There is some disagreement, or at least negotiating room, on the cost and necessity of road improvements to access the site. Gov. Mark Dayton estimated the road costs at $175 million to $240 million. Bennett said the work can be done for much less and offered to underwrite a 20-year loan to the state that would require $7 million annual payments, including interest. Combine the stadium cost with infrastructure and roads, and you're exceeding $1.2 billion.

I made it into Vic Ketchman's column twice today.

I'm only seeing once though the format makes my head hurt.

That would explain the sudden spike my Ego Meter recorded.

Edit: Report: Pete Carroll talked with Matt Leinart about coming to Seattle. Can Reggie Bush be far behind?

One's under my real first name and location (Monterey) and one's under the Legion alias and my soon-to-be location.

It would definitely be nice if the Packers site layout wasn't so narrow. But Ask Vic is daily required reading.

Seattle Trojanhawks.

Ah, yes. I looked for another Austin listing thinking you had moved already. Clever girl.

Pete Carroll has handled the recruitment of his former Trojans in an interesting way. He does want to get his hands on them but then he judges them as fairly as he does every other player. Trading for LenDale White seemed like a stupid move with the Seahawks cutting him a few months later but I feel it lead into getting big Mike Williams into camp. Then he purposefully passed on Matt Leinart to get JP Losman just to show that he knew which of his Trojans were bad eggs. If he grabs Leinart this year it will be for the 3rd QB slot now that Leinart learned just how valuable he is.

He traded Lawrence Jackson to the Lions as well, saying he didn't fit his system, which I find funny because he fit it so well at USC.

I like the star wars reference lol

The Bucs turned down Hard Knocks. Smart move if you ask me.

It's too bad. The page-long Freeman man-crush posts from Milkman every week would have been entertaining.

Now I don't have to share him with anyone else.

Well with the upholding of the lockout it will be another month before any of draft even takes into effect.

Yeah, that begs the question: if the lockout continues onward into the late summer months, what's Hard Knock's supposed to do?

The Bengals again. It's not like they actually play football or anything.

Yeah, but the segment on Chad Ochocinco's bull riding folly will last, what, 30 seconds?

I think Hard Knocks would do well just following around 20 or so high profile players and coaches from random teams around the league. Hard Knocks: The Lockout wouldn't be as interesting football wise but it would hit that popular, rich people who are bored, reality show demographic. The only issue is whether the NFL would forbid Hard Knocks from paying Brandon Marshall to film him getting stabbed again due to it interfering with the leagues plan to starve out millionaires.

He wouldn't last the full 8, let alone 30.

That's what she said!

Let's see . . . they can follow Marshall, Pacman Jones, Aqib Talib . . .

I would totally watch that.

Since this thread is a tad comatose, I give you word that the "You're with me, leather" story is still alive and kicking. Even Kornhesier ribbed Berman about it.

Hmmmm, one gets the impression that Ray Lewis is speaking from experience.

So I guess he is in favor of an 18 game schedule, right?

The third approved change clarified the rule regarding protection of the quarterback. Hits to the head of a passer by an opponent’s hands, arms or other parts of the body will not be fouls unless they are forcible blows.

Thank god. I hated all those penalties from someone grazing a QB.

There's got to be a clause in there that says it's still a foul if the QB is Peyton Manning.

Apparently he also said he could fix the lockout. But uh that kinda got lost in the crazy "no football = crime" talk.

So when is the draft again?

Hey, if I were a Titans fan, I'd want a do-over on the draft, too.

Where did you ever get the idea that Grumpicus was a Titans fan?
