Soul Calibur V announced

Let's get real here: any popular character from I-IV who doesn't appear in V will just get gender-swapped and reintroduced as the previous character's opposite-gender offspring who just happens to have learned all of the old man/lady's moves.

Sophitia's kid has already been announced. Rock has an adopted son in-canon so that's a no-brainer.

If everyone's favorite nunchuck-wielding Elvis impersonator doesn't show, I have absolutely no doubt that we'll meet his daughter (or niece, or whatever), the nunchuck-wielding Marilyn Monroe.

And that's assuming that they don't skip straight to a nunchuck-wielding Chuck Norris in a nun's habit.

Getting to play as "BANGOOOOO!" really would be something.

Supposedly he was included as a playable character in Soul Blade but taken out at the last minute, so you could only access him with a Gameshark. FWIW.

Given their M.O., I think 1.) It'd be a lady-version of Chuck Norris and 2.) That habit is about 450% too tasteful/modest for Soul Calibur.

Maxi is going to be in it. He's one of the old guard, like Yunsung and Kilik and Mitsurugi. There would be outrage if he wasn't.

Except Yungsung isn't of the "old guard", he's the one who replaced Hwang. I still don't think Maxi will be taken out, but it's in no way a given that Namco won't swap him for someone far inferior who uses the same weapon.

I found Ivy far more difficult to chain nicely in SC4 than SC2. SC2 you could press a few buttons and it was fairly easy to move her between her various starting positions for whip chains. Playing SC4 I find her doing pathetic stubby sword attacks when I want to get the chain out.

Possibly this is just a case of me not having put the hours in, though...

I think they kind of nerfed her in 3 compared to 2, and that carried over to 4.

To be fair, once you put some time into learning how to use her, she could be pretty overpowered in 2. Not that she was bad in 3 and 4 once you adjusted to the changes, just not nearly as whomptastic as she had been.

I don't think Namco has come even close to the pinnacle of perfection they achieved with Ivy in SC2. Her stances had meaning, they weren't just temporary states that allowed you to add extra hits. Her mixup game was far superior in 2 than anything she could do in 3 or 4. She was definitely approaching OP in 2, but I was very disappointed with how drastically she changed between games, where as other nearly OP characters (Mitsurugi, Kilik, Nightmare) were barely touched at all.

Ivy has always been the sandbox character of the game, she undergoes pretty radical changes in every iteration. I really enjoy playing her, but it's getting tiresome to have to re-learn everything with each sequel, where as Kilik players can just keep mashing out the same damn combo again and again.

Cartwheel, cartwheel, cartwheel. Footpoke! Cartwheel.

I love Kilik.

I just hope Maxi isn't in it. I don't want to hit one button and my guy on the screen go off into a 15 second animation with 30 attacks in it while my opponent sidesteps the first one and dude just keeps hitting air.

But Maxi's moveset is the best for custom characters. All that bouncing around...

On that note, we're playing online tonight, right? Anyone have a time?

Maxi is just a replacement for Li Long anyway.

Spoken like a man who's never heard Li Long's Elvis impression.

I was thinking around 10 EST for an hour or so or do we want to start earlier?

So what if he calls him Ervis. He's still got the swagger.

I can start before 10, but I don't mind starting later. That gives me more Witcher time.

I'll be there, though I think I'm only xbox live friends with Oily...

I'll be there to set things up. I think my friends list includes enough GWJers to be able to connect everyone eventually.

I'll try to be there, but if the lag is as bad as it was last time I played SC4 online, I *WILL* be playing Siegfried. Just sayin'...

Whatever, Li Long is just a poor man's Michelangelo. (-:

So, I got booted off Live just now, and snapped my headset cord from my Astro headset into my TE stick. Thus, no mic for me, and no mic for that stick again. Oh well.

Getting a new controller cable is easy enough, and I have another TE stick for the 360, so I'll join in on the fun next time.

I own 2 360 headsets. 2.

Where the f- are they?

It turns out that game is significantly less fun without smack talk.

Thanks for the games. Although, now I want a mode where you can have more than 4 people in a lobby.

No kidding. Sorry about that disconnect, for some reason it kicked my out of the session.

Good times, everyone.

By popular demand (aka I brought it up), here are my old SC1 combo videos.

Ivy:

Xianghua:

Nightmare/Siegfried (since they were the same back in SC1):

The throw someone was talking about is Summon Suffering, and the input was a hell of a lot easier until they not only changed it (again) in SC4, but also made it dependent upon Ivy's weapon state. Personally, I prefer Calamity Symphony (or whatever it is now), but that's harder to pull off.

Good games, everyone, except for the part where you guys kept killing me while I tried to be funny. You are all cheap. Anything that beats me is totally cheap. D:

It also kind of sucked how we had 7 people but our game perpetually had only two people in it. Wouldn't that mean the other game had 5 people in it? That's impossible.

I did have a lot of fun, though. If you guys want to do this again I'd totally be up for that. I also think we ought to set some house rules: no Vader, and bonus points for using auto-customs.

Vader sucks anyway and everyone should use nothing but female random all the time.

I'm game for more as well, I'll keep an eye on the thread. It will necessitate making some pretty crazy costumes though, I'm not sure if I can top Lobster's custom Yoshimitsu.

He likes to be on top anyway.

Pink panties?

I wish our matches had less horrific lag, ahrezmendi...

Yeah, that was unfortunate. I could count the number of seconds between pressing a button and having the move come out.

There's a new trailer out for Comic Con. Ivy's in it, y'know, just in case there was any doubt in anyone's mind.

She's aged very well. Which is to say not at all.
