Goojers with job opportunities

Seconded. Let's start a software company called Aardvarks and Software and Not Aardvarks, to make sure we get on the first page in any directories.

Working on it!

Hey they should come to Florida and hang with us Karma.

Not to be a filthy skimmer or anything, but any Account Manager or Client Services positions open for any SaaS or DaaS folks here?

I'm in Southern California and I am open to relocation, pending the details of an opportunity.

Thanks!

I've got an opening for a Jr QA Engineer, located in NW Austin. Description and contact info at http://www.smartesoft.com/company_ca... or just PM me.

Man, I would kill for this job and would love to live in Austin! But not up on any scripting languages and not yet (although going to take Linux+ test) a Unix/Linux guru. Not enough to put it on a resume at least. But I do have A+, Network+, Security+, MCSE and MCITP: Enterprise Administrator. Not that any of that has done me any good really.

Strekos can probably say for certain, but I would not be overly concerned about your lack of experience/expertise. This is a Junior level position, they're expecting to have to do a good amount of training.

As long as you're intelligent and reasonably technically strong, with good attention to detail, you should be good for a Jr. QA position.

Yep, that's absolutely right. This is an entry level position, so a lack of experience is pretty much expected. I list *nix as a plus because typically it goes hand in hand with at least a smattering of scripting expertise, which is helpful in testing our products. But it's not a requirement at all.

My company is hiring PT/OT/SLP therapists. Pm me and I will give you the number to call. Teere is one facility in Maryland. Most of the rest are in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and maybe Minnesota.

Anyone out there looking to hire someone who has half of a Master's degree done in Cyber Security (already has a BS in Management Information Systems)? I want to get into the field, any job will do. I'm clearable for any type of SC, although I don't have one yet. Information Assurance is my love if I had to choose.

I have A+ and Net+, no Security+ yet though (I hope that's not the deal breaker as I have suspected since applying to jobs for a month now.)

Random FYI regarding the LinkedIn group: I tried to join, but it wouldn't let me leave a message in the request... So note that "Matthew Thiel" is me. Also tried to send one afterward, but it said I 'no longer have access to send to that person.' or something. Weirdness.

My wife and I want to do an MBMBAM-style "pack up your bags, and get out of town." Trouble is, my current company has Austin in the title, and they already only let me work from home only one day a week.

I've applied with pneuman's company, which would let me work full-time from home, from anywhere in the world. Unfortunately, I thought she wanted to find another house in the area first, so I waited to apply until after we'd moved. Ended up not moving, and in that 2 months I waited to apply, they've hired someone else, but are hopefully keeping me in mind when a new position opens up in the next few weeks.

So, anyone looking for a C# developer who's also good with Ruby and wants to telecommute full-time? I'm looking at a decent opportunity in Charlotte, NC, but would consider anywhere. Preferably in the U.S., as she hates flying, and we don't want to quarantine the cats. We're also not fans of big cities, but it depends on the opportunity.

TL;DR - Convince me to move to your town and work for your company.

@Bonus_Eruptus: It's obviously not for everyone (I can think of at least a handful of reasons to leave) so I'm totally not criticizing your desire to move but out of personal curiosity, why do you want to leave Austin? If nothing else, it may be helpful to those who are considering coming here.

Possibly just needing to experience what else is out there. Austin is getting very expensive. Crazy legislature. State budgeting issues. Wanting to be closer to either his or his wife's family for a little while.

Oh wait those are my reasons.

Yeah, those were on my list - the education cuts in particular - along with the damn allergens. The family thing is also something we've missed since we moved here but that's not so much a problem with Austin.

Of course, no place is perfect, and most of the issues are more Texas than Austin (an oasis in the desert, if you will) so of the five in which I have lived as an adult, it's still my favorite city thus far.

As I said, I wasn't judging, just being interested.

Grumpicus, stop being so reasonable! This is the internet, and we don't do things that way here!

If I was sounding angry or rude, my apologies, I didn't mean to come across like that. I was just throwing out possible reasons.

I agree that Austin is definitely an oasis in this large state. I've lived in the Austin area my whole life but I have family members all across Texas and just comparing their mentalities/beliefs with my own (as well as my family that live here), it's like they're almost mirror opposites.

Thanks for the questions, guys.

I do love Austin, though I wish it were the Austin of the 70s and 80s that I've heard so much about. It's an island of sanity in a sea of crazy.

In no particular order, my reasons are:

  • A change of scenery
  • Allergies
  • Living further than a 1/4 mile from the sun
  • Getting away from family

I'd actually be fine staying here, just haven't had any luck finding a house in almost a year, and we got screwed so bad on this one due to sellers lying to us. I'm tired of my current job for a variety of reasons, mostly due to my not having a real voice on a team of 2 developers. Other than that, a dress code that forces me to waste money on dry-cleaning clothes I apparently need to wear to look professional in meetings with absolutely nobody outside my immediate team in the last 5 years. Working 2 years to get a new source control system in place and all the other crap necessary to work from home full-time, then being told we can only work from home one day a week. Having my lead developer change the source control system to Microsoft Team Foundation Server the first day I went on vacation, without telling me about it, after I kept him in the loop when I switched us off of SourceSafe 6 months earlier. Those are just a few. At least it's stable, and in this economy, at least I have a job, I guess.

I also shouldn't have made it sound like I was blaming my wife for my not applying for jobs. I wanted to get out of this house ASAP myself, and thought I'd have to wait an additional 90 days (at least) to qualify for a mortgage with a new job. A new house here would limit my job search, and a new job would keep us from qualifying for a new house for awhile (40 days, it turns out). It was/is a chicken-and-egg scenario.

In NW Austin, we routinely have openings for backend server Java(spring, hibernate, etc), web UI via a GWT like setup called Vaadin, firmware development for gateways, and QA.

Don't have much more details than that, since the reqs are always changing. Just let me know if interested, and I can find out what's current.

Still no luck in my job hunt, and despite a scare in finding out our junior dev had been promoted to senior (same as me), I found out today that my job is safe when I come back from medical leave. I also found out that we're hiring both a Programmer Analyst and Senior Programmer Analyst for my team, so if you're good with C# and in the Austin area, or want to move here, PM me, and I'll send you the details.

I'm sure they'd prefer medical experience, but I didn't have any when I started, so don't let that stop you.

Splash Damage (where I work, in the UK, just outside London) is hiring for approximately a million positions:

The company has just instituted a policy of Friday afternoon drinks in the office. Just sayin'.

PM me if you're interested.

My aerospace software company is still looking for Java developers, young and old. Science background is a plus, but not required. We're in Greenbelt, MD, which is on the northeast corner of the DC Beltway.

My firm has a lot of openings, at various levels. All full timers get insurance, regardless of pay scale. Folks in the greater Detroit, Grand Rapids, Leesburgh VA, or Boston area can hit me up for details. Legal experience a plus.

Our Business Intelligence company is looking for an entry-level BI consultant for our San Diego "software as a service" team. We're mainly looking for recent college computer science or information systems graduates with some academic knowledge of databases, data analysis, ETL scripting, and familiarity with Linux. Nothing too fancy on the Linux side, but if we ask you to run (not necessarily create) a bash script we expect you know what we're talking about. You must have the ability to be your own boss as you will be given your own set of clients and will be responsible for a full implementation cycle.

It looks like my division will soon be hiring a phone support position and an implementation specialist position. More details as I get them. Located in Cary.

Ditto for C++ developers now.

"Implementation Specialist" is almost as vague as my current "Systems Engineer" title. Are we talking just a step up from a CSR or is this more like a seniorish/consultant type position?

Main responsibilities would be installing our software (usually) on site, spec gathering for customization & setup, writing some custom C# code as necessary, dealing with customers over phone & face-to-face, overseeing some software updates, helping troubleshoot when CSR can't figure it out.

If you are a recent college grad with a biology or chemistry degree my company is hiring entry level positions. Ditto for a microbiology degree or experience in the pharmaceutical industry (mostly lab settings). Shoot me a PM if you are in the Richmond VA or Madison WI areas or are willing to relocate and I can give more details.

We're hiring ASP.NET/JQuery developers, SDETs and testers - some experience required.

Our office is located in downtown Seattle. Telecommuting is not an option, but it's pretty easy to get here by bus from just about anywhere in the area with a park n ride. Healthcare experience is desired but not required. PM me for more info.

We're looking for network engineers in the NYC metro area. PM for details.
