Soul Calibur V announced

As long as it has Ivy in a thong....

It's been 17 years, dude. 17. She was 28 in the first Soul Calibur game and 32 in the most recent.

Do you really want to see a 49 year old in a thong, even if she has somehow managed to fight off gravity for that long?

Yes, I do.

Legion is turning over in his grave right now.

When did we finally kill him? Was it Marsman?

Oh, he's not dead. He's got like another couple hours of air in there, right?

Ivy's an alchemist, right? So maybe alchemy keeps her young. Yeah, that's it. Alchemy, and, ummm... nanomachines.

Actually, I don't care if she's young, old, in a thong or in a nun's habit. I just hope she's in the game, 'cause she's my girlfriend's favorite character and she might not play with me if she can't play Ivy.

Yeah, they could probably pull something like that, or just give her a daughter or something.

I think the idea was that she's not a very good alchemist. She spent her entire life trying to make a demon weapon she could use to destroy the Soul Edge (she's mad at it for killing her father, Cervantes) and the best she could manage is a "demon arm." That's why her sword acts more like a tentacle than a chain. It's actually possessed by a demon. ...arm.

Not that it's the first time Japan's put a tentacle next to some giant boobs...

I played Ivy a lot in the others too. Her moves flow nicely into one another and when you get the patterns down she's really impressive to watch. NO, not like... shut up!

I found Ivy far more difficult to chain nicely in SC4 than SC2. SC2 you could press a few buttons and it was fairly easy to move her between her various starting positions for whip chains. Playing SC4 I find her doing pathetic stubby sword attacks when I want to get the chain out.

Possibly this is just a case of me not having put the hours in, though...

One time, I performed a double knockout against my friend as Yoshimtsu by teleporting close and stabbing myself and him in an unblockable move. It was an awesome movie I'll never be able to recreate.

But the ultimate "Screw You" move IMHO is as Mitsurugi. You're pwning and you say you'll give your oponent an advantage and just put your sword back in its sheath. Then whip it out. Yeah. I loved whiping it out when I play Mitsurugi.

And Grenn was never allowed into the arcade again...

That thing Mitsurugi does is a real thing. Now arguably, it's a real thing that people do as a highly stylized and formal way of calling their opponent a total p*ssy, but it's still a real thing.

SC4 night next week? Monday?

I'm honestly happy with them throwing away all the characters and starting over. I haven't enjoyed a Soul Calibur game since the Dreamcast one precisely because it's been getting steadily more ridiculous over time. The original's story wasn't exactly good but it wasn't full on clown-car ridiculous like the sequels. Yoda? Spawn? Really?

I just want a smaller set of fun characters that I can take through an adventure mode fighting random challenges for rewards. That's really all I want. Though I probably won't enjoy it as much as the first one just because of the lack of college dorm to play multiplayer in. So maybe I can't be satisfied here

Well, at least they've got the game's details down.

"Don't worry, I am a fully licensed Federal Breast Inspector"

I'm thinking Soul Calibur V will be Epic. The extras will be Mickey and friends!

You'd prefer they apply boob size all willy-nilly? Madness.

Aww, don't worry, Talim. You'll catch up some day. Probably in Soul Calibur 6.

... Seriously, you think Mi-na was always that big?

I think they kind of nerfed her in 3 compared to 2, and that carried over to 4.

To be fair, once you put some time into learning how to use her, she could be pretty overpowered in 2. Not that she was bad in 3 and 4 once you adjusted to the changes, just not nearly as whomptastic as she had been.

Being the pioneers of oogaba physics they wouldn't have it any other way.

There's Oogaba physics, and "do they make I-cup plate mail?"

Also, who's the token stoner 5th from the right? I'm assuming she owns a ferret and has a killer move that involves a hackey sack.

My best guess is Tira.

I'd guess that too. Stupid grin + completely crazy hair = someone who fights with a hula hoop.

I just hope Maxi isn't in it. I don't want to hit one button and my guy on the screen go off into a 15 second animation with 30 attacks in it while my opponent sidesteps the first one and dude just keeps hitting air.

Maxi is going to be in it. He's one of the old guard, like Yunsung and Kilik and Mitsurugi. There would be outrage if he wasn't.

Ask yourself: Is a world without Maxi, Aryan nunchuck Elvis, really worth living in?

It is the only kind of world I want to live in.

I'm really hoping they sort out Voldo's cod-piece for SC5. Since SC1 and SC2's spectacular bull's head, they been getting progressively smaller. If the boobles are swelling with time, why not the man-package? C'mon Namco, time to break out the Black Russian.
