Space Sims/Strategy Games Catch-All

I remember HardWar. It was like GTA in space. Dear lord the cutscenes were horrible, but for the most part it was a fun time.

Anyone here tried Galaxy on Fire 2 for iOS? (Sorry if it's been mentioned -- search didn't bring anything up.)

Review.

I recently discovered the existence of Imperium Galactica, but the game is so old that even the abandonware no-cd patch doesn't exist anymore! I hope gog.com picks it up someday.

Yes, it is a fun little game, Not challenging though. Basically, semi open galaxy, where you fly around doing jobs etc...

If you can get it for cheap I recommend it (I put probably 20 hours into it, but I can imagine that it would get boring for some people)

Just discovered this yesterday and decided to take the $10 plunge to support the project. It is rather similar in look and feel of Gratuitous Space Battles, but you have direct control over your ship(s) and weapon systems.

Just curious, but how'd you find that? Cause it looks awesome.

Edit: this video shows a full mission. Very GSB-like. I'm 100% okay with that.

I'm just cross-posting this here since some of you may be interested. The direction of Soldak's (Din's Curse, Depths of Peril) next game is: "MOO from a mercenary captain's point of view."

You are a mercenary in this very dynamic galaxy. Your job is really to survive and make a good living in the meantime. You can pick the side that you feel is right and help them conquer the galaxy for its own good. You can pick the side that you think is going to win and go along for the ride. You can even try to play the races against each other and simply try to pick the winning side at the last second.

Link.

One interesting thing to note about X3TC is the existence of the X-Tended mod, which is formally listed as Bonus Material on the Egosoft site. It changes a significant enough amount of the game to almost qualify as a new experience -- for example, it automates the creation of new sectors of space and gradually expand over time, allowing for (theoretically) unlimited ongoing gameplay.

A screenshot on 4chan caught my interest and luckily someone posted the name when I inquired to know what it was.

Master of Orion 1 and 2 (and some drunken gate crasher calling itself MOO 3) are 50% of at GOG right now. The MOO1+2 pack will be the best $3 ($3!!) you spend all weekend.

It's actually $4.19 unless you buy the whole pack. Still, super cheap.

That's $1.19 more? Well forget it! That's the breaking point for most everyone here. It's just too damn expensive to slap that bag of pennies on the table and say "Give me the best space strategy game ever made." BTW, why are you carrying around a bag of pennies?

Seriously though, this is a must buy. I've picked up space strategy games at their full $40 price **cough Armada 2526 cough** and regretted it instantly. I bought MOO1+2 at full price on GOG and never regretted it. MOO2 is just such a damn good game and the standard that I measure all other space strategy games by.

$4.19 was cheap enough for me. Even for posterity's sake.

If you don't like it (like that'll happen), I'll refund you the $1.19. Budo's on the hook for the $3.

Battlestar Galactica Online just went into public beta:

http://us1.battlestar-galactica.bigp...

Space combat MMO RPG with mining, pvp, missions, grouping, electronic support, electronic warfare and great ship customization that plays in your browser. Gameplay is a bit of a mix between a traditional space shooter and Eve. Multiple camera types for different styles/jobs is very useful. It's pretty interesting so far. I'm playing as a Cylon on Scorpia named Mixolyde. It plays really well for being a browser game, though the Beta ness shows here and there.

Going to give it a whirl, thanks Mix.

nobody has mentioned ascendency. not a bad 4X type even if the combat was turnbased. The best bit was the music and the atmosphere created by the different types of aliens.

now apparently available for the ipad and phone etc.

Acendency? I'd managed to forget that steaming pile, thanks alot for bringing it up.

Starfarer looks really cool. Its like GSB the rpg!

You sir, have no soul. I will say a prayer to the gaming gods on behalf of your withered spirit.

Enjoy!

Here's a ton of in-game footage, with somebody's vent chat overtop, I think it's German, but I could be wrong:

Keep in mind, this is in your browser!

I don't think I've seen this one mentioned yet: Space Pirates and Zombies.

The beta is supposed to come out on Impulse today for $15. There are two ~30 minute YouTube gameplay videos on the website, too.

Edit: Available now.

That looks much better than I expected. Also, that is absolutely not German. Sounds Slavic to me...perhaps Polish? Maybe even Russian (I know that's not Slavic).

Hunh? Of course it is.

Hey...I know I'm stupid. Let my words speak for themselves

Ah, those videos were done by TotalBiscuit (aka TotalHalibut aka the Cynical Brit). He should have another video up tomorrow showcasing more than just the beginning of the game.

I'd recommend subscribing to his YouTube channel as basically does QuickLooks like Giant Bomb, but for pc games. (His "I Suck at Starcraft" vids are also really good.)

Edit: I'm totally buying this game after watching those vids.

New video:

By the way, the SPAZ website has a demo that includes about 90 minutes of the game.

I played through the campaign of the first Galaxy on Fire and enjoyed it, but never pursued the open-ended trading afterwards. I bought GOF2 as soon as I got an iPhone 4 but haven't put much time into it yet. Fly, shoot, sell, come off boost and inexplicably slow down in a vacuum, that sort of thing.

I'm going to pull a Bill Abner on that PR:

Not too many omissions, actually.

So, Star Raiders is a super old game, so an update of it at this point makes me wonder what it's all about. I mean, the screenshots are of a third person ship. Wasn't Star Raiders a first person game?

Anyway, space, shooting things, $10. All these things make me happy. Hell I bought Afterburner Climax and enjoyed it. Why wouldn't I like Star Raiders?

Longshot I know, but does anyone have an X52 Pro profile for Freespace 2?

I just picked this up after listening to the podcast, and would like to use it.
