Homefront - Catch all

Aren't you tempted to try and argue with some of the crap people write about your baby?

Eh, sometimes. Mostly though, I just let the game speak for itself. I think it's a great game. It does have its flaws, but underneath that is a very solid experience. That doesn't mean everyone is going to like it though. So, to each his own.

I've got to ask. Do you play the game after it is released or can you just not face looking at it again after the hours you put into it already?

When the game was realeased, I played it for about a week. After that, I stopped playing it at home. But keep in mind, I've played it at least an hour every day for the past 2.5 years. And even now with us working on patches and DLC, we still have daily multiplayer tests. So while I'm not playing it at home, I'm certainly still playing it. And still enjoying it.

And it shows when you see him play he's a beast!

Well the MP is the most important bit for me and that is a fine game. Okay no more questions for Tkyl until he finishes making new maps.

If you play on the PC send me a msg through steam and i'll try and jump in.

As will I. Would love to get some games in with people on vent.

I had a big session last night and I did have the feeling that I always seemed to end up doing stuff on my own and getting shot a lot and then I thought how good it would be to play with friends and then I saw the cavalry (Ranalin and Tempest) coming over the hill and then I saw they riding on PCs.

Thanks chaps but I'm on Xbox only. I keep hearing of this mystical Steam and its Vent but alas it is not for me.

Very frustrating last night. I seemed to end up on the losing side more than was fair. Spawn, trudge to front line, die before I see anyone, repeat.

Started to unlock some stuff and just before bed time this included the attack chopper and battle commander. Looking forward to trying both of those.

I still have this on Xbox. Haven't played it in awhile, so I'm sure I'm rusty. I'd be up for some.

Mrs Princess is out tonight so I'll be on. I'll look out for you Mannish.

I'm up to about level 33 now. Played nothing but CTF early on because I like the objective games on BFBC2. My success is still swinging from pi** poor to pretty good. Last few games I've played have been on BC TDM and that has helped considerably. Playing lone wolf is hopeless on CTF but doesn't seem to be a problem on TDM but I suppose that is obvious and I've just ignored the fact.

TDM usually has a predictable early stage of infantry fighting followed by all the cool kids with the big points turning the screw with tanks and helicopters. If you get an attack helicopter early enough in TDM it seems like you can really clean up because most sides don't bother to shoot them down. Joined late in a game where somebody got 70 kills.

Came across one organised clan playing CTF and they were all maxed out at top level. They all got good scores but they weren't steamrollering. Someone on their team was the spotter and nothing but fly the parrot getting 40+ assists in one match.

I've heard some coplaining about wall hacking. I've been killed by assault rifles from a remarkable distances on suburban maps but I can never tell if it's cheating. How prevalent is this on 360?

Any tips on getting rid of tanks quick? Does it make any difference sooting the back or the tracks? Does the RPG have any more damage over the proximity one? Just started using the boomer perk.

The RPG does more damage than the proximity one. Significantly more. The proximity one is most useful for taking out helicopters.

In regards to taking out a tank, first off. Tanks are tough. It's very rare that you'd be able to take one out by yourself, unless you're in another vehicle.

However, that being said let me impart this wisdom. Tanks have a system called over-armor. It works by absorbing the first one or two shots from a given direction. Once you take out the over-armor, any subsequent shot to that side will hurt the actual hull of the tank. So, if you fire two shots at one side and then another two at the back, you've basically "wasted" shots. (You have completely wasted, as it will make it easier to do more damage later, but it isn't the most optimal firing pattern.) With that said, tanks have over-armor on the sides and the back. They don't have any on the front, but they instead take a reduced amount of damage from the front. Ideally, you want to hit the top of the tank as there is no over-armor there.

Sorry, was out of town this weekend, and probably will be next weekend, too.

I had gotten to where I was always carrying proximity launchers to take out Parrots and other air drones as fast as possible. Also helps with choppers. Had a class with the EMP underbarrel as well that allows you to stun a helicopter or tank at range. Was trying to figure out how successful that actually was when I drifted away from the game.

I posted something way up the thread about something weird going on once, but never saw it again so I'll disregard that. Haven't played recently, but other than that one time didn't notice anything.

Tank splash is a bit brutal in this game, so you have to be careful after your first shot at the tank. Cover that would be safe in BFBC2. Use the regular RL, not the proximity. Also, EMPs to stun can keep you safer as you deal with them.

I think the sides are the strong points in HF and the front and rear are weaker. May be wrong on that.

Tykl and Mannish, thanks for the advice. Been using the proximity on the helicopters. I'll try using RPGs on the tank turrets. The Rhino is fun but it gets knocked out really quickly.

I've not equipped the shotguns or grenade launchers yet but picked up someone else's. How do you switch to the noob tube?

Splash damage is brutal which is why I love driving the tank but it is heartbreaking when someone pops up in an attack chopper when you've just driven your new and expensive toy out of the garage.

Left on the D-pad.

There's an animation and sound showing this dropping off.

I noticed the big clang sound when the rockets hit but never hang around long enough (usually getting shot) to notice any animation.

The entire team at both KAOS Studios® and THQ would like to thank you for playing Homefront and being a member of our community. We appreciate your dedication and patience as we continue to improve and enhance the game with each update.

I've been playing the singleplayer campaign and enjoying it. I agree with everyone that it has many flaws.

That's too bad. I hope Tkyl lands on his feet.

I was not expecting a sequel.

Wasn't Homefront pretty much designated as a franchise by THQ before the first one had shipped?

I had heard that this was all but inevitable a while back. The real (?) reason: Kaos was stationed in NYC, which is not a cheap town, nor does it have the development tax breaks found in some other places.

I'd heard it was dependent on the sales. It did pretty well, as that GB article points out.

I thought he'd already moved on to another job somewhere else anyway?

Hey guys. So I was actually out of the office today and just received the call about the closure. I'm not sure what I'm aloud to say about the closure, so I'll just keep it pretty simple. We were all expecting this to happen sooner or later, so we've been at least somewhat prepared. Most of us have been actively interviewing at other places.

I've got to run, but I'll be back on later and might be able to share some more info.

Thanks for the best wishes.

Good luck, man. I'm glad to hear that at least you weren't blindsided by the closure.

Best of luck Tkyl.

Ooh, I think I was mixing you up with maybe Floomi? I thought I'd read about you interviewing somewhere else already.

Regardless, bummer man. Good luck to you.

Good luck Tkyl. I think from Danny Bilson's statements in the past, this isn't a huge surprise but it's still a shame to see people out of work. Hopefully you guys all land on your feet. And if they do offer you positions in Montreal, it's a pretty neat city.

THQ must be getting more worried about their finances because at the rate they're going, they won't have many studios left soon.

Yeah, saw through the grapevine that KAOS was closing. Sorry to hear that Tkyl, here's to hoping you have somewhere to head.

We'll do our best here.

Good Luck Tkyl.
