Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword Catch-All

Pages

No catch all? Make it so!

Release date (on Steam) is May 3, 2011! And it's... 15 bucks? Why are you just standing there? Buy! Buy now!

Que? A new one? I am in.

Unless I'm mistaken, it isn't Taleworlds developing this one (makers of original and Warband), but CD Projekt

CD Projekt is "The Witcher" company, I doubt it's the same team as they were developing Witcher 2 also, but yeah. Could be promising

I just steam pre-ordered it. Plus you get some TF2 hats for those of you that play TF2. Frankly the game alone at that price, should be a no brainer buy.

How is this any different than the previous M&Bs? What has CD: Projekt brought to the table? I'm curious because the price is in my range and I've been intrigued but underwhelmed by the series.

It'll have a story mode based on the historical novel it's named after (which is apparently popular in Poland). And the setting is more-or-less real 17th century Eastern Europe.

And it's got firearms, of course.

This is very tempting.

For anyone curious from someone who spends way too much time on this game and forum (upwards of 650 hours, mods, dash of multiplayer), here are the differences I have found from various forum sources

F&S seems to have a much stronger backstory and developed culture, in terms of the look of your men and such. There doesn't seem to be villages to recruit from anymore, you go to mercenary camps, and hire the composition of your army. There are also options to equip your men differently.

There seems to be a higher variety of quests, and there's video of fighting in what looks like a very large town square

The engine looks about the same, I would compare this to probably Fallout:NV to FO3. I think the lighting effects looks slightly better but it looks generally like Warband, except some of the weapons/armors look a bit better and has more flair.

I think multiplayer has been tweaked some but I can't find any videos on it.

In short, it looks like the result of a professional mod.

Taleworlds is listed as the developer.

Preordered from Steam!

Check out the movie adaptation of Henryk Sienkiewicz's first book:

Pre-ordered. Doesn't seem to add much beyond what a few of the bigger mods have already done, but I've gotten a lot of joy out of the previous two games, so I'm sure this will be $13.50 well spent.

Pre-purchased and waiting. Waiting to lose a lot more time to this series.

I believe CD Projekt started work on it originally and then passed it on to Taleworlds to finish up their work so they could focus The Witcher 2 more.

I'll grab this just because I feel Taleworlds deserves the money. I paid about $5 for the original back when it was Beta version 0.623 and the amount of play I've gotten out of buying the original twice and Warband once is more than most Triple A $100+(that's what they cost in Australia, even though our dollar is stronger than the US$) titles. Gotta support the little guys.

What, Prozac? That's not even proper syntax. How does one HATS?

I assume you're alluding to the TF2 bonus items? luckily for me I'm one of the few that cares not a jot for that supercilious Hat collecting game.

You are one weird guy, Prozac. That how they teach you to speak in crazy poisonous upside-down land?

Oh Prozac, your obsession with hats is as alarming as it is unnecessary.

Oh HAT!

You know you couldn't resist a hat like this:

Speaking of which, I'm really surprised the Sniper hasn't got a hat like this already, I guess the physics of it would be a killer there.

They sell those hats at Aussie World next to the Ettamogah Pub about a 10 minute drive from my place.

FYI, the game is now ready to install and play.

*Edit- Although it's not letting me play for some reason.

**Edit again- Apparently it's only available for download and install. ~1 more hour till playtime.

It's not available for me to download/install yet

It's available for play now, w00t!

There we go, had to restart Steam. Valve really ought to fix that bug.

Downloading now!

Gah, I don't have internet installed until tomorrow! I can wait. I can wait. I can wait...

First thoughts:
This map is terrible.

*fingers in ears* La, La, La I can't hear you La, La, La

I bought this without a lot of expectations, I hope. I really, really enjoyed the first one which I bought cheap on Steam. I bought Warband because I enjoyed the first one so much and felt guilty about getting it so cheap, but I have only put a couple of hours into it (only because I had put so much time into the first, then moved on to other games and haven't gone back to it). I am not sure when I will get to play this one, but it is going on the pile dammit, 'cause I want to support the company who can make these types of games.

Yeah, clearly whoever designed Eastern Europe wasn't thinking clearly, Calradia is obviously superior.

It's funny though, the game is set in a period and area I have very little knowledge of, it actually feels more alien than Calradia in a lot of ways.
