OOTP 12 League?

Pages

Ok. First let me b clear this is my first experience with this game and this enquiry is about folks who would be interested and ONE individual (not me!) who would take on running it.

I know of at least 4 folks who r presently interested:

Myself
My brother
THeCounselor
His friend ......

So, anyone else? Especially someone familiar with the game to run and nurture we newbies along:). (as a side note about the new iPhone/iPad versions coming out. There is no on-line play for this version unfortunately).

Names of interested folks as of 20 July 2011:

Prederick (Commish)
garion333
Donan
Novocain
Landshrk83
mitchson
Slumberland
Jakeleg
OzymandiasAV (deciding)
TheCounselor

From Commissioner Prederick:

... all-fictional league. Drop me an e-mail so I know your preferred team nickname and I have you in my address book.

So here's our owners list thus far -

Pittsburgh Fighting Pierogies - Novocain

Baltimore Bridgeburners - garion333

San Diego Surfers - Donan

Boston Waving Whiteflags - Landshrk83

Buffalo Breakfast Burritos - TheCounselor

Brooklyn Sandwiches - Slumberland

Seattle Rain - mitchson

I wasn't sure if I was going to pick up OOTP 12, as I'm still getting plenty of mileage out of OOTP 11, but if you get enough people for a league and someone to run it, I'm in.

I'm considering, but there's no way I can run the league as I'm in two football sim leagues already.

I'm planning to get OOTP12, i'd be a solid "maybe".

From Markus Heinsohn, Developer of OOTP:

'...

Hey guys,

we hope you all had a nice Easter Weekend!

On Thursday we submitted iOOTP Baseball 2011 to the Apple Appstore, so that project is basically finished now. The past couple of weeks I had to work a lot on iOOTP to help Sebastian (our iPhone developer) and to give it the final polish, which unfortunately resulted in less time for OOTP 12 than I would have liked. But that's the way it is for us small companies.

Anyway, I'm back to work on OOTP 12 full-time now, and we should be starting the beta test next week. The roster set already is in very good shape, the financials look good and the new historical features will be implemented next. I expect beta to run pretty smooth, so that a release should happen late May if all goes right.

I'll post several updates per week from now on, to keep you in the loop with screenshots etc.

All the best,
Markus

That's awesome news. I grabbed a copy of OOTP 11 for $5 on Amazon this weekend so that I can play around with it before the new one comes out.

I really want the iPad version, though.

the iPhone, iPad (really iPhone version you use on the iPad for now. True iPad version release later)iOOTP was sent to Apple about 4 days ago. Usually a two week affair with Apple, but were hoping sooner. Daily watch has commenced for sure:>

Wow! I wish I'd seen that deal, I would of got a copy myself.

Darn! PC only. Thanks for heads-up tho'

I'm gonna jump into the OOTP world this year, so count me in!

Yeah, count me in for 12. Just preordered it.

Still looking like end of May or so. Still will need a Commissioner.

Btw, I went looking for a cheap copy of 11 to practice on and found what appears to be a free
copy of 10 on Apple site (for Mac). I dl'd it, but haven't booted it up yet. Put an icon
on my desk top.

(as an aside, iOOTP is under review by Apple and 'may' be released by this Thursday)

What are the Commissioner's responsibilities?

If you have OOTP 11, check the manual under, OOTP on-line leagues. Then check under sub-heading,
'What is required', and it pretty much tells you the requirements and duties. I was going to give it a go, but I think it's a bit more then I'm qualified for, plus I'm new to the system.

I wouldn't recommend being a commissioner if you haven't played in an online league or at least a lot of the game.

Here's the section in the online manual for online leagues: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/docu...

Yeah, that's way out of my league.

Count me in for a league- I've been playing around with OOTP11 and I'll have 12 when it comes out.

So, I play a fair amount of Front Office Football 2007 (he's give free update patches every year since) and thought you guys might want to take a look at what those sites look like. Most sim games offer packages to help you get websites setup. Once they get setup it's a TON of fun.

Oh, and fantasy leagues (ie. players made up by the game) tend to be more fun than ones that start with real players. After a few years most of the players are all fake anyway, and with fantasy/fake teams you get to create your own history. Or at least that's how I prefer things.

No Rules League (NRL). Not my favorite, but the league uses the basic FOF2007 rules and simmed from 1960 or so forward using historical players. Then in 2026 human owners took over. This allows for people like Peyton Manning to have existed and played, but at this point they're out of the game. It gives the league a richer history than simming for 60 years worth of fake players. Anyway, take a look around. The site isn't the best, but it works and there's a dedicated bunch who play (which is the most important part).

My other (and preferred league) is the OSFL. The site looks better and more information is given in the forums on a "weekly" (as in game weeks, which are 2-3 a week) basis. (Example.) They also hook into a database system setup up by Ben E. Lou who is practically the developer's right hand man (though he doesn't get paid or anything, but he knows EVERYTHING). His databases look like this where you can peruse most of the stats found in-game, but from your browser.

I just thought you guys who hadn't played a mp sim game before might find this stuff informative.

Markus, OOTP developer has stated that June 20th will be the release date of OOTP 12. He was apologetic for delay, but lots of overhaul, especially financial system etc. Hopefully will get a commissioner by then.

Man, and here I was thinking it'd be the end of this month ...

Well, you know, we should probably just join an existing league. There's 7 of us who are in, so it shouldn't be too hard to find a place that could house us. I wonder how many people are playing in Bill Abner's league ...

Most recent Newsletter (i.e. just came out) with screen shots and what they are planning and tweaking.

(I'm absolutely having a blast with their new iPhone game. I'm truly amazed that got soooo much depth on a mobile.)

Another new feature that is pretty cool:

Hey guys,

just a quick update - things are going fine and I am in the process of finishing up the last couple new features for OOTP 12 before fixing the remaining bugs of the beta version. So, we're on schedule for the June 20th release

I have just finished coding the new injury system enhancements. Basically there are three new aspects here:

1) For some injuries, the exact type/ duration is not immediately revealed. Basically, the diagnosis may take up to 4-5 days for severe injuries. Once the diagnosis is revealed, a league news article (for good players) and a manager email will be sent.

2) This only makes sense if we have retroactive DL assignments, so I added this as well. The game stores the date of an injury, and if the date is in the past of the DL assignment, the length of the DL stay will be reduced by the time difference. So when you place a player on the 15-day DL who was injured 3 days ago, he just has to spend 12 days on the DL.

3) While I was in good mood, I also added rehab assignments to the minor leagues. You can send a player to the minors (right-click menu -> transactions submenu) directly from the DL if the DL time has ended. Position players may stay 20 days in the minors and pitchers 30 days. A minor league option is not used in this case. The game prompts you to activate/DFA the player again if the rehab assignment time has elapsed. By the way, this is not a cosmetic feature, players do have a 'rust' rating after injuries (this influences performance & injury risk), and by playing in the minors the player gets back into shape and the rust gets reduced/removed entirely.

Hope you like this

Cheers,
Markus

For all you folks who love/like the OOTP series and can't wait till the 20th release for #12, the folks are asking assistance for broader audience.

Check out this link for more information:

Last chance to pre-order OOTP 12 for $29.99 till tomorrow. Monday it's up till $39.99.

Looking like a 2pm EST release for preorders. I know what I plan on doing when I get home.

Edit: And it's live. Got my email. Four servers to download. We'll see how that goes when I get home.

Heck yeah, great news. I paid for it so long ago, it feels like I'm getting it for free.

Totally enjoying myself. Do we still want to try this? Do we have a potential commish willing to donate the necessary webspace?

Honestly, I haven't put much time into the game as of yet. For some reason I'm obsessed with Baldur's Gate right now. Perhaps it's my reaction to not being able to get into Mass Effect 2 and going back to play a proper Bioware game. Anyway, wrong thread.

I'm still in for a league, for sure. One of my FOF leagues collapsed, so I'm down to the one FOF league. More time for an OOTP league. I might look into what all the hosting duties entail. At the very least we can shop around the OOTP site and find a league with enough space for us to join up.

My Brother and I are still up for one, although complete newbies to the game (well I've planned thru a couple seasons of the iPhone edition. (oh, a cousin of mine is up for a game too, he's experienced in the game).th

Btw, new patch is posted on forums with links (12.1.10).

Also, if you haven't noticed, there's a new twist to the new adds for OOTP 12. This cumulated from a usual/unusual thread of about 2 weeks ago entitled, 'The only baseball sim I've ever gotten addicted to'. The thread grew and grew with this and that comments till a short while ago it 'outed' the author, Curt Schilling! The thread has now become more interesting with his recollections of gaming moments etc. Check it out (and back the thread, he's now prominently displayed with the thread name:>)

p.s oh, yes, just in case, it's in the OOTP 12 General forums discussions.
