Grab What You Can from the Pile and Don't Strain Yourself

2011 seems to be flying by. I've got a rather unimpressive success list working so far. As the sales and the new releases pick up, my pile continues to grow. This month shall be declared "Low Hanging Pile" month.

If you're interested, m0nk3yboy, has the 12 month pile plan thread over here.

A quick reminder, in order to be considered "Pile of Shame" the game needs to be at least three months old. Otherwise, it's just a new game you haven't gotten to playing yet.

Also, if you are curious about some of the previous threads, Pick's of the Pile, etc... Please go here and check out the Google doc I setup.

Let's get on to the games!

This month's Pick of the Pile is

[size=30][b]Chrono Trigger

"Chrono Trigger takes place in an original world similar to Earth, with eras such as the prehistoric age, where early humans and dinosaurs share the earth; the Middle Ages, replete with knights, monsters, and magic; and the post-apocalyptic future, where humans and sentient robots struggle to survive. The characters frequently travel through time to obtain allies, gather equipment, and learn information to help them in their quest. The party also gains access to the End of Time (represented as year ∞), which serves as a hub to travel back to other time periods. The party eventually acquires a time-machine vehicle known as the Wings of Time, nicknamed the Epoch. The vehicle is capable of time travel between any time period without first having to travel to the End of Time." (wikipedia.com)

Ok - no more excuses The Witcher has to go down this month in time for Witcher 2.

Also been making progress with Metro 2033, so hopefully I'll be able to scratch that off the list soon as well.

DQ9 once more.

Then maybe something else...

Already decided on which games to pick back up a week ago. I'm going with:
Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando (PS2) - I have no idea why I stopped this game since I was really enjoying it. Maybe it was because I finally got the original in. Sadly, my PS2 will not read past the end of the initial cut-scene in the original so I'll just finish out Going Commando.

Goldeneye 007 (Wii) - Probably 1/3 to 1/2 through already. A pretty good adaptation of the N64 original. I enjoyed how it adhered to the original and filled in some gaps and such in other places so far.

That's it for now. In all likliehood, I'll find my way through both of those games, but who knows...

Nothing this month. Witcher replay time, then Witcher 2. \o/

I'd like to carry-over Batman: Arkham Asylum. I have just a little bit more of the story and collectibles left to complete, but I know the challenges are going to take some time. After that, who knows?

Ugh. This year has to be the worst "Pile of Shame" year for me ever. I wanted to play the Dragon Age expansions and DLC, and got stuck slogging through the entire campaign again. Not wise. I'm also spending time playing multiplayer stuff like Blood Bowl instead of working on the damn pile!

FFXIII progress has ground to a halt as well.

So, for this month, I'm going to start with Dragon Age Awakenings & other DLC - I may put FFXIII in the freezer and move onto another PS3 game, though - not sure yet.

Rolling over FF13. Enjoying it, but started it too late in the month to complete. I think I still have 40+ hours for the 1k.

Hopefully this is the month that Red Dead Redemption falls. Honestly, I'm enjoying it, but not as much as I thought I would. Why am I about five times more scared of the wildlife than the people shooting at me?

I am also planning on completing all the levels on Defense Grid, including the expansions I have.

I am going to try to finish up Uncharted 2 and Chrono Trigger (DS) in May. I am already in Chapter 9 in Uncharted so I think that I should be able to make it. Slowly chipping away at the pile.

I'm mostly playing The Witcher 2 this month, however I hope to bang out Enslaved on my PS3 while I'm waiting for it to arrive.

Because the wildlife is dangerous and unpredictable.

What this man said.

Goldeneye 007 is a Wii exclusive AFAIK...

I'm in the very last chapter of Bioshock. I can do this!

Just started some tower structure area on Chapter 11 of FF13, so I'm thinking I should be able to finish that up (finally) this month. Also playing through Chrono Trigger on DS this month.

Dude, you must have been looking at my TA status!

Will check the branches when I get home tonight, expect some stinkers easily achievable targets this month

EDIT:
I saw the credits roll on Portal for the first time (I know, the shame) on the 1st, does that count or do I need to finish off the WHOLE Orange Box?

I finished the single player story of Splinter Cell Conviction, but had the Co-op story and DLC on my pile. In April, I completed the co-op campaign and the original maps in Hunter mode. This month, I'm going to knock out the DLC maps, and hopefully finish the challenges.

I don't think that will take too long, so I'll try to finish Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves (PS3 collection), though I've only just started and the last two were kind of long, so if this one is also, it may not fall until next month.

Count me in for Enslaved. Hoping to finish it up soon and power on to something else, but not sure what just yet.

Well I did start God of War (PS3 collection) last week after I finished Dead Space 2. Perhaps that should be my choice for this month. First couple areas seemed fun so far.

I want to crowd-source my next pile game - I'm debating between Bioshock or Borderlands. I'll have probably around 15-20 hours to play this month since I'm also trying to finish Shogun 2.

I'm in for Kirby's Epic Yarn. Hopefully I can accomplish that goal while digging a little further into Mass Effect 1.

Bioshock is the shorter games, so I think that may be your best bet.

It's also a more complete single player experience too (ie, Borderlands is better with peeps, Bioshock doesn't rely on that).

I played both, and I found the art style compelled me to play Borderlands, but the game became a bit of a grind for a single player experience. I had no such trouble with Bioshock, especially if you task yourself with finding all of the audio files too.

I'll go for:

Interstate '76: Nitro Pack (PC expansion) - didn't finish this last month as planned, but only have 3 missions left as far as I know. One hour should do it.

Infinite Space (DS) - A long handheld rpg. Has some issues but is interesting enough to keep me going. About 2/3 done with it already.

Machinarium (PC) - My random pick. Starting from scratch.

Also want to knock of Back to the Future episodes 2, 3, 4, and perhaps 5, but those are too new for the pile.

Now that I've finished Portal 2 in both single player and coop, it's back to the pile: my goal is to finally finish Saints Row 2 on my 360. For a game I've been having enjoying so much, it's strange that I've never finished it. I play it for a few hours, get really into it again, play some more the next day and then I don't touch it for months. I am making progress though; nearly beat the 2nd of the 3 rival gangs...

Still plugging away at Baldur's Gate here. It's a long game, but I'm having a blast; some interspersed X3:TC and Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is slowing my progress somewhat, but after 14 years on the shelf, I think any progress is positive.

Spoiler:

I'm in Baldur's Gate itself, and am getting ready to sneak into the Iron Throne headquarters to see if I can uncover what's really going on there. Still have a few sidequests open throughout the city, as well -- Imoen has a handful of fun-sounding thief missions available, but I dual-classed her to a mage at level 5, so she's ~5,000xp away from being able to access her rogue skills again. Hoping I can grind that out in the sewers and via the Throne quest, so that she can go be stealthy without needing to cast invisibility and knock every few minutes.

Working on "The Witcher" after a few failed starts over the years. Im gonna buckle down and get it done though. Hoping to complete it by mid month to prep for either some Brink time or Witcher 2.

No. It's more of a reboot with the same name.

Edit: Also, put me down for Fable III. It's technically been traded away months ago to a fellow GWJer and so isn't even on my pile, but I haven't heard anything from him about it in months, and it's just sitting there, so I might as well take another swing at it. I've got to improve that 6% GS.

Besides, the gold import feature in Fable Coin Golf means my new character will be really well setup.

Yeah, it's got whole new levels and huge redesigns and additions of portions of the 1st 3 levels from the N64 game, and I'm only 5 levels in.

For example: In the first level, when going down the tunnel and getting to the dam, instead of walking, you ride a truck and do a sequence. Then the 4th level is in a night club and the 5th level is a tech expo or something, I think. Anyways, not the same game.

Plus they used the new Bond's (Craig) face/likeness, not Brosnan. So it MUST be a whole new game!
