Game of Thrones—NO SPOILERS—The Balls

I should have been more specific. HBO Go content has been available since Feb 2010 through Fancast (now xfinity), but without all the fancy HBO Go features. We could not log into the HBO Go website itself and use their streaming client. The only reason I wanted to watch GoT through HBO Go is because of the special pop-up video style extra content they show as you watch the episode, which is only available with the HBO Go client.

In checking around a little more it looks like Comcast and Charter users were actually enabled yesterday to be able to access the HBO Go site directly.

Happy GoT Day!

I haven't started the second book so I think I'll follow this thread instead of having to worrying about what's going to be said. I parrot the casting opinions; most are great. Waiting to be sold on Dany. I also don't love Snow but there's more to come with him. I did feel the first episode just ok, going way too fast. We'll see in hindsight if that proved to be a good decision. The second episode was good and I started to connect with some of the characters and the actors who play them.

The puns were fantasic, btw.

How long is the delay between the airing of Game of Thrones and the episode being available on HBO Go?

EDIT: Just checked and as of 9:20 EST episode 3 was up!

Hurray.

edit: Ugh. The video quality on there is terrible. I'll just have to wait for a rerun.

There is a HBO GO Android app in the Marketplace, but I haven't done more than download it yet.

Bummed that there still isn't any sign of ghost, but a good episode. Littlefinger seems spot on.

Amazingly the pacing was a little slow in episode 3. Lots more setup and not much happening in this one.

I enjoyed this episode much more than previous ones. After this, I was glad I stuck it out.

I think they are dropping the wolves from the story. No Ghost to be found and nobody running in their wolf's head.

Having just read the first book and not watched the show yet, this makes me so sad.

I doubt it, I'm just guessing that adding the wolves to any particular scene makes it significantly more difficult to block and shoot so they're going to be using them as sparingly as possible.

Anyone else think the way the scene with Jaime and Cersei was shot was like straight out of a daytime soap opera? That's my one issue with the show, sometimes it just feels like they're going through the motions without really thinking about it. But then there are other scenes which are great.

Was disappointed with the scene with Dany and Viserys. It should have been Dany that commanded him to walk, basically, they removed a simple gesture that really empowers her character.

While I've found I only really like one of the characters (Tyrion), there are quite a few whom I hope receive elaborate and painful deaths.

Keep watching. The odds are with you.

The lack of wolves is definitely disappointing. Even if Ghost was just sitting off to the side watching Jon fighting the other guys at least his presence would have been acknowledged. The highlight of the episode for me was Syrio's "dancing" lessons with Ayra. All kinds of awesome.

Nice that Drogo finally got to say more than "No".

I thought Robert's seemingly bitter recollections with Jaime and Barristan Selmy was quite good and my personal highlight. Syrio wasn't convincing to me :(. I think Harry Lloyd is doing quite well as Viserys. And Tyrion's accent still bugs me.

I pictured Syrio looking differently, but that scene was great. I loved Ned's face when he watches his daughter get "killed" over and over: pride over her learning, fear over the possibility that his child, his youngest daughter, could someday end skewered on someone's sword. I wish they had talked up the fact that she is supposed to look like his dead sister, more; it would add a nice bit of flavor to the pain he shows there.

Robert's talk with Barristan the Bold was really great. I felt that it put a human toll on the deaths at the hands of these guys, and they knew it. So often in stories, people focus on killing one person, and they mulch countless nameless people on the way, only sometimes reflecting on the one target. I appreciate that they take the time to address the brutality of the world, with these guys who are warriors reflecting on the first person they killed, showing both remorse and resolve about their past deeds. The pathos of Robert's "God I was strong then" statement was heartbreaking - like he knows his time is largely past; his best days are behind him.

It feels like Jamie is being portrayed as less of a dick than he is in the book. Not much has been made of his status as Kingslayer, I think this episode was the first time we had people directly ask him about it. They have done a pretty fair job, so far, of justifying his act, but I don't recall much being said that indicates the level of betrayal he enacted with that killing. He is still a member of the King's Guard, right? One of the seven sworn protectors of the King? I think they should be talking that up a bit.

I thought the same. Seemed an odd change. That was the first time she stood up to her brother and it was a big disgrace in front of the Dothraki.

That was the first episode I really enjoyed. As mentioned above, they could've handled some scenes better, but on the whole the show is getting better.

I missed the broadcast last night, but I have a pretty good excuse.

Oh, was last night the junior high cheerleading competition?

Some of the stuff I'm reading here is making me very concerned. This and the lack of dire wolves seems to be really odd.

I dunno. I'm in the middle of re-reading the books (just finished the Tourney), and the wolves play a pretty damn minor role at this point in the story, except for Nymeria and Summer's attacks (both of which were in the TV show).

Whoops, I guess I misunderstood something a ways back there. I was under the impression that the wolves had been completely axed.

Yeah, I explained to my wife why Jaime gets such crap even though he did what seemed like a good thing. But like a lot of things, I expect more details to be explained in later episodes.

The confession that he sent an assassin to kill Bran seemed so... brief. Glossed over. Like, you could have missed it if you weren't paying attention. On the other hand, the talk about it being Tyrion's dagger found at the scene was highlighted a couple of times.

You were watching the Giants lose?

Jaime confessed that? I don't remember that bit. I thought he was saying that if Bran talked he'd kill him, the Starks, Robert, and anyone else that stood in his way to being with Cersei.

Nah, just not getting a ton of screen time, which is in line with the book, to this point.
