Osama Bin Laden is dead!

Pages

NBC, CBS, CNN are now reporting that a military action in Pakistan has killed Osama bin Laden and the U.S. has his body for confirmation.

Holy cow.

The bastard is dead. Good riddance.

Never thought I'd see the day...

I hope it's really him and not Fauxsama bin Laden.

eh? eh?

Seems almost anticlimactic. I have spent most of my career in that shadow. Lots of brave men and women will sleep better from here on out. I have no doubt there is an incredible story behind all of this and a lot of hard work.

I won't believe it until I see the long-form death certificate.

Even more amazing is that the body was recovered. That means it wasn't a drone hit, but some US soldiers (or US allies) on the ground that performed the action.

(edit) Sounds like it was a missile. Still to actually recover the body is amazing.

Apparently they got him a week ago but waited to confirm with DNA evidence. Never thought this would actually happen.

The real question is, what does this do to stir up the already-boiling region? Is it a win for Allied forces, or does it drive more people to the cause? My money's kind of on the latter, though I hope I'm wrong.

Do we get to tie his body to the back of a hummer and drag him across Afghanistan?

Will citizens across the US run outside, scream and shoot into the air?

Well now we have Obama's 2012 campaign slogan "I got Bin Laden, what you got?"

Man, I thought the press conference was to announce he was bringing back Firefly.

Saudi government efforts to repatriate the remains in 3...2...1...

What now for America?

Breaking out the champagne.

We're far to lazy for that.

We're far to lazy do to that.

Plus, this isn't a Super Bowl or NBA Championship victory. Now if we can get some anarchist riled up about this....

Man, I wouldn't wish straight-up death on anybody, but I'm glad he isn't a threat anymore.

Yeah, we can scream and shoot from indoors.

You know what's sad, there will be nutballs out there that claim that this is a fabrication by Obama designed to boost his approval ratings.

I've already heard that from a few friends with soldiers in the family within the last 10 minutes. /blech

Oh man, after my brother told me I joked that Kotaku would report it...

LEARN WHAT IS AND ISN'T VIDEO GAME RELATED, CRESCENTE!!!

I think it's a bit ridiculous that it took almost 10 years after September 11th, 2001 to get the bastard. Regardless, better late than never.

Good job, Team USA. Have a cold beer tonight.

Long live.. oh wait, nah, never mind

So does that mean America won?

I would have rathered he be taken alive, and I worry what his "martyrdom" will do to mobilize the radicals, but still...good job, USA!

*shoots Wii pistol in the air*

I really hope we find some proof of collusion between OBL and Pakistan we can stop supporting their shady, crooked government and cycle those billions of funding dollars back into the US.

I am extremely surprised that the guy managed to survive as long as he did. The FBI Ten Most Wanted list hasn't been updated, yet. Make sure to grab your collectors edition USAMA BIN LADEN most wanted poster.

I've been watching the Phillies game. In the 8th inning, the entire stadium was chanting "USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!" and the players on the field looked so, so, so confused. Hahaha.

Very strange that the FBI poster makes no mention of him being wanted for being involved in 9/11.

So who's taking the new spot? Seeing as there's an opening.

Although bin Laden later appeared on the first publicly released FBI Most Wanted Terrorists list on October 10, 2001, he was listed there for his alleged role in the 1998 embassy attack, and not for his alleged role in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people, because the most wanted lists name fugitives charged with a crime by a prosecutor or under indictment by a grand jury. Bin Laden was named as an "unindicted co-conspirator" in, for instance, the federal indictment against convicted terrorist Zacarias Moussaoui, but has not been formally indicted for his alleged role in the September 11, 2001, attacks.

My girlfriend and I were just going to bed when she decided to quickly check Twitter. So much for going to bed at a reasonable hour now. I'm giving Twitter another hour before it melts.

I honestly never thought I would see this happen. Ultimately, it's going to invigorate morale for sure but in the big picture, nothing will be different tomorrow. The wars won't end, soldiers will still be getting killed and the middle east will still largely want to see us destroyed. Nonetheless, this is a victory and while I don't believe in Hell, if there is one I hope that's where he will spend the rest of time. The soldiers who took him out deserve to be praised in the highest regard.
