New Nintendo console to be announced at E3.

I can't rule out an interface on the controller (i myself predicted one) but it will not be of the same scale and power as a handheld console... controllers are expensive enough by themselves at the moment... i can't imagine that any console like this would be any more successful than the 4-way adapters for the GBA/Gamecube thing, the videogame memory cards for the Dreamcast or the PSP link to the PS3.

Except your examples are all accesory to the console. It would be a whole new ball game if it were to come with the console, just like the Wii. Just because a concept doesn't work as an add-on doesn't mean it can't work as a pack-in. The only add on I can think of that was truely successful was the rumble pack on the N64. Even the balance board which sold millions of copies didn't spawn much support.

Here's my perspective. People connect their PSPs to their TV. People connect their PSP Go to the TV and use a bluetooth PS3 controller to play games. So in my mind I can easily envision the ability to play a game on a TV with a standard controller and then take that console with you on the go. I'd definitely be in favor of companies trying that out.

A fully functional Wii controller costs around £40. A 360 and PS3 controller (wireless) costs around £30. Modern consoles only come with one controller.... If a controller had a touch surface and/or an LCD it would be clocking in at around £80+ considering the original controllers i mention above cost more than they currently do. It would not work financially. My examples were accessories, yes (well, the Dreamcast thing wasn't since you needed one to save your games) but they were all very expensive and the Dreamcast official ones were ousted by the third party non-interactive save cartridges because they were cheaper.

What percentage of people do those things? I've not known anyone who does any of them. Certainly not the average "joe" gamer. There are people who run BSD DHCP servers at home and hardware firewalls with gigabit lan running through their wallspaces.... The average person just has a wireless hub that their ISP gave them. I honestly don't think the mass market is ready for that sort of system right now.

My point is that if it were easy I know people would use it. This isn't that far afield from those LCD screens people used to buy and attach to PSOnes and XBoxes. This is simply doing the reverse.

Man, no new info. They just announced that it will be coming in 2012 and they will show it at E3

But the speculation is FUN! Right? ... Right?

I'm actually surprised Nintendo gave out as much info as it has.

I don't know what you guys are on about... We have all the information we need!

"It's difficult to make 3-D images a key feature, because 3-D televisions haven’t obtained wide acceptance yet."

No 3D TV compatibility.

“We would like to propose a new approach to home video game consoles,”

They're making a huge "portable" device!

So what are the current odds that Nintendo could garner a substantial install base early with a year or so head start over Sony and MS?

Have core gamers been burned by Wii to the point of being reluctant early adopters, or will there be a mad rush to get the "best looking/running" version of GTA V on Cafe?

Can MS and Sony kill Cafe hype by announcing their own consoles that would theoretically be far more powerful than Cafe? Would people be willing to wait a year or two for a higher-spec'ed PS4/Xbox Next?

Did i miss an announcement? What's this "Cafe" you're talking about?

It's the codename for their new console, Project Cafe.

If Nintendo launches with the games, gamers will buy. I'm pretty sure of that.

A six-inch touch screen? That's pretty small.

You should know.

Zing!

(Sorry, couldn't help myself.)

DAMNIT! I was hoping someone would fall for the "I don't think that's small!" trap

Well played, sir. Well played!

One thing I know about gaming, no one operates in a vacuum. Sony/MS will react to this in some way. What's not certain is if the Cafe console is significantly more powerful, if it's enough to run current AAA type games at 1080p, then I think they'll just leave it be in the short term. The Cafe console will just be the console graphics whore's place to play.

I just hope everyone's learned MS's RROD lesson.

Or astoundingly average?

Man, unless it's a sex simulator in a box, I'm not buying anything from Nintendo on launch ever again... The Wii was awful after the first month of "Holy crap! It's amazing!". And before that, the Gamecube, which was even worse, eh, no thanks.

With MS having the best online service (whether or not you think it should be a paid service notwithstanding), and PS3 coming in a distant second, it would be interesting to see how Nintendo will address that. Add in the Achievement mechanics and they have a lot to do software-wise just to catch up, and at this point, they need to step it up if they want to win people away from their gamerscores and trophies and current installations of friends.

Oh ffs I hate my mouse.

Okay, now there's a rumor going around that it will be called "Nintendo Feel." It's like they're BEGGING for innuendo.

Would that be Ninnuendo?...

Don't be ridiculous. It's clearly Innutendo.

I only recently realised that there's also a Ps3 version of this. Thus Ubi could, like, totally port the HD version over to the Wii 2

I'm really hoping that the touchscreen stuff is true in some capacity, though. No more excuses for making Okami on underpowered hardware!

(Yeah, I should be grateful that the game saw a sequel at all, but damned if I don't want to see what that game could look like with more speeds and polygons and whizz.)

And your avatars would be Nintendo Feel Miis.

What's the japanese for "feel"? Could it be a misinterpretation?
