Portal 2 Catch-All

I've got coop done. I don't know why but that last course seemed significantly more difficult than the other ones.

Hopefully I can hook up with somebody that hasn't run through it yet for the Professor Portal achievement this weekend. I still need most of the coop achievements so if anybody wants to do an achievement run, I'm game.

Thank you Dr. Awkward for helping me get the Professor achievement in Co-op. I have a feeling that one may end up being pretty hard to get further down the road.

My pleasure. With the twins fussing and lack of voice com you'd have been as well off partnering with a palsy stricken circus bear but as long as you got your achievement all is well.

Do you need to completely finish coop to get the Professor Portal achievement or can you get after you've progressed past the tutorial

Yes, you have to complete co-op before the achievement is possible.

I've finished co-op, but I'd be happy to try for some of the achievements with people. Just hit up Rebel Blob on Steam tonight and over the weekend.

What, Rebel Blob is the famous Tannhauser?

Mind blown...

Anyway up for some virgin co-op, just message Titanis.

This goddamn game. Bravo.

I've been wanting to play co-op with someone who hasn't played it yet so that we both go into it fresh, but the Playstation Network is down and the PC version seems to only run when it feels like it for absolutely no discernable reason, which is almost never.

Seriously, it ran perfectly the first time I booted it up, then the next time I tried it crashed after the loading screen. Went online, tried a bunch of stuff, tweaked settings, verified files, uninstalled, reinstalled, added exceptions to anti-virus programs and firewalls, turned off anti-virus and firewalls, fiddled with graphics drivers, even set the executable to run in different compatibility modes and as an administrator, until finally it booted up and worked perfectly again. Then a little later I tried to run it again, but only after I went through everything and checked to make sure it was all exactly the same as it was the last time it ran successfully. I haven't been able to get the game to run since. The only thing keeping me from being insanely angry at reality is the disc sitting in my PS3 ready to go at a moment's notice.

And this is why I play more console games than PC games.

Anyway, point is, any chance there's someone around who is holding off on playing co-op for a little while for whatever reason, or by Monday should I expect every single person in the known universe to have played and finished co-op?

I haven't touched co-op yet. And I probably won't for another week or two (final exams and university graduation coming quick). You'll still be able to find people I'm sure.

Weird. I thought the last "world" or whatever was a lot easier than the 4th one.

I'll be around most of today if any co-op virgins want to give it a go. I did do the first few rooms with Phishposer before his internet blew up, but we didn't get very far into it.

I too will likely be able to get a bit of co-op in this afternoon when the babies take naps.

Word on the street about PSN now is that somehow people were able to get free downloads from the PSN, so they took it down to fix the exploit.

Anyway, I'm still waiting on that to come back up to get co-op trophies.

I'm a co-op virgin. I'll probably be online later this afternoon or this evening, if anyone wants their Prof achievement -- or if another virgin wants to stumble awkwardly through it with me.

If I'm at Chapter 7 of the single player, would it still be spoilery to start coop?

Not exactly, but I would definitely finish the single player if you can. It just feels perfect starting up the coop having finished the single player. Also, you may not have experienced a couple of the mechanics in single player yet (I forget how far you are in chapter 7).

By Chapter 7 you will have faced:

Spoiler:

Lasers and their Reflection Boxes
Aerial Faith Plates
Turrets
Light Bridges
Blue Gel

You will not have faced:

Spoiler:

Gravity Beams
Frankencubes!

Depending on how far into Chapter 7:

Spoiler:

Orange Gel
White Gel

I think. I might be a little off there.

Well, that Super 8 thing under Extras was a cool marketing idea, but it did nothing to get me more interested in the film. Instead it was just another painful reminder about how I desperately want them to put out another Half-Life game using the current version of that engine.

x2

Also, it didn't really run that great on my not-so-great computational device, which made me sad, especially considering Portal 2 runs mostly fine. Hopefully if Episode 3 ever comes out, they'll do something similar with the PS3/PC thing.

Also, I found out how to fix my problem with the PC version. I have to fiddle with the compatibility settings every time I want to play. If it's not set to any specific compatibility mode before I want to play, I have to set it to run in compatibility mode for Windows XP Service Pack 3. If that's already turned on before I want to play, I have to turn it off. No idea why and it's pretty stupid, but at least it works. If anyone else is experiencing a similar problem and has an integrated Intel graphics card, this might be the solution for you as well.

So, yeah, I'll actually be able to play co-op whenever I finish single-player. Now I just have to figure out if the headset-thingies I have for PC and PS3 actually work.

This game makes me obscenely happy.

That is all.

EDIT: Please add me to the group, thanks!

Finished, twice. I that been a long time since I have done that. It was a fantastic experience.

Just finished it and I have to say it was even better than the original. Valve did a tremendous job with the different environments and the writing was top notch. On to the coop!

Finished the game, but too lazy to go back and read all the fun spoilery discussion over the last few pages. Hoping to see more in the spoiler thread, and hit up some people for co-op. later!

Please add me to the steam group as well so I can get some coop in.

We need a link to your Steam profile (like mine below).

So wahwah and I just finished the co-op.

Is everyone co-oping with voice chat? My headset is up at work because we had a need for it up there.

Voice chat makes planning a LOT easier. I highly recommend it. You can do it without. They give you some tools for planning, like hitting F paints something with a target for your companion to look at. It also opens a radial menu where you can choose a countdown for timing. But it's just so much better and easier with voice.

I played through the co-op beginning to end with LobsterMobster last night. Absolutely AMAZING game. I was laughing so hard pretty much the entire time. Dying never felt so fun! Killing is fun too.

Thanks for putting up with me, Lobster. I know I was a bit slow on the up-take for some of the early levels, and screwed up a bunch of times throughout (occasionally to hilarious effect), but damn, it was still so awesome.

The in-game tools are good enough for maybe the 1st world in coop. After that there are some stages that require a more planning and timing and I'd hate to be without voice.
