Penguincon 2011: It was Fedorable

I think I am reassured that we'll fill at least 20 rooms, if not more.

I have reservations with the airport Sheraton (not a pun) so I will be going out and finding more quotes to, if nothing else, get some bargaining leverage on them.

I'll post when I find another promising lead.

Car Pool List is a go

If you're driving and you need a ride or you're driving and you have space for me, put yourself on the list. "Name" can be your user name on here if you want anonymity.

Feel free to make changes if you think you can make it more efficient.

Once we get closer, if there are some people still having trouble lining up a ride, don't hesitate to let me know. We'll figure something out.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to complain or anything.
I was just saying the reasons not to go for me are stacking over the reasons to go
I'll just have to wait for another year where I fit into it more, I don't expect things to change or people to go out of their way for me.

Hey Fed, where in upstate New York do you live? Because I am moving to the Saratoga Springs area pretty soon and was thinking about going to PenguinCon. If I had at least one guy joining me to make it an official road trip, all the better.

I'm about 3 hour opposite the direction you'd be heading so it probably wouldn't work out well for you :D. St. Lawrence county, up on the river.

I'm not saying it's impossible for me to go, I am saying that it's hard for me to confirm this early as there are variables constantly changing and jumping around.

Well then, you'll just have to miss out on our awesome, super secret pre-order bonus package deal, Fed.

I'm not saying a back rub from oilypenguin is included, but I'm not denying it either.

If I can't confess my undying love for your mother, you can't volunteer me for homosexually charged pre-order bonuses without asking me first. That's just common courtesy.

I volunteered nothing. I implied.

But he'll expect it now. You know my inability to disappoint anyone.

Well, there you go, Fed! Guaranteed back rub, now!

Why do you think I signed up for the Imperial guild so quickly?

In that case, I can neither confirm nor deny that you will be having a new little sister soon.

/sigh

New question to crowdsource: how much do we care that we're allowed food and drink in the meeting space?

Will needing to run back to someone's room to mix drinks be a dealbreaker? I imagine that bringing those drinks back into the room won't be a problem provided that it's after hours and no one is around to care.

A lot. I mean, us spectators need something to do!

Dealbreaker? No.
Huge PITA? Yes.

Are you sure? I mean, I didn't talk to the person, but usually "no food or drink in the space" means you can't physically have food or drinks in a space. And that's an assumption we're not going to want to find out is wrong at the last minute. In any case, I consider that a pretty strong argument against a place.

This is also the place with the sales rep who stood me up yesterday. Not looking great for them.

On the plus side, $80 rooms, free breakfast, and free parking.

Oh man. I'm looking at their catering menu.

LOLs.

Yeah, no. Not here. Unless everyone wants coffee for $22 a gallon (before a mandatory %18 gratuity and %7.75 sales tax)?

I can also spend $1000 (for 50 people) on this:
Pre-Meeting:
Danish Pastries, assorted Muffins, White and Wheat Bread, Bagels with Condiments.
Coffee, Decaffeinated Coffee, Assorted Herbal Teas, Bottled Water, assorted Bottled
Fruit Juices
Mid-Morning:
Refresh Coffee, Decaffeinated Coffee, Assorted Herbal Teas, Bottled Water, Bottled
Fruit Juices, Assorted Sodas and fruit tray
Afternoon:
Your Choice of any one of the afternoon breaks; Sweet Sensation, 7th Inning Stretch, or The Energizer.

Great deal, only $1,268 after mandatory tip and a tax on food.

Boogle's in 4 one Sweet Sensation afternoon break.

I thought these were the names of the different massages you were offering as a pre-order bonus?

I hate you all.

o/\o

I hate you most of all.

Oh, speaking of which, let's get our Blood Bowl match in tonight.

Wait, what? 3 hours in any direction from Saratoga means leaving the state of NY, doesn't it? Maybe you can PM me where you'd be coming/need a pick-up from and we'll see what we can do?

So after talking with Luggage I've figured I could take a bus to Syracuse, meet up with him there when he passes through, then get a ride from him to Ohio and then do it all backward. The issue with this though is lining up the timing with the bus schedules and the company (Adirondack Trailways) only books like 2 months in advance. So I still can't totally confirm.

I will go into the 70% sure club with Boogle.

K. cool. Preregistration should be up in the next 2 weeks. We'll figure something out.

This is so tough. I will be coming to the mini con and cornhole extravaganza. But October is a nutty month for me. I know I made the bold proclamation that I would organize a poker tournament. But this will take some doing. Lemme know if you have any deadlines Oily. Pencil me in as a RSVP, but I am gonna need help with the tournament.

It is just that my vacation days are somewhat precious. I tend to blast through them for Exams.

lol, it won't take much to get a tournament together, don't worry your pretty head about that. Just concentrate on getting your time straightened out and getting yourself here.

Well, I was working on teleportation, but my tests on the baboon were not encouraging.

I've had this vision of you pulling up with TK on the back of your motorcycle. You better deliver, or I'll be pissed.

I think I lost him in that plan when I used the phrase "Nuzzle my neck for 200 miles."
Weather permitting is the operative word for October. If you want guaranteed motorcycle bad assery, I suggest you come in May.

I'm on the carpooling sheet. This far out it's really hard for me to know exactly when I'm leaving and it depends on what ends up being required of staff (and my whole wedding thing) but at the very latest I will know 1-2 months before.

We should have a location to announce by 4-29. I found a place, now I need to make sure that it's the best available.
