Portal 2 Catch-All

Okay, so what I'm reading is that the loads are just between levels and not in the middle of one.

No problem with that at all as it was prominent in the first game.

Hey, if there is a group, I would LOVE to play some coop games.

Well, I love multiplayer games in general, but my english isn't top notch. I know some slang, some key "words", but if you guys speak french, I'll speak that language instead I'm mic shy in general.

Oh forgot : Steam id is /id/Manach

Give us a link, instead. The Steam search feature is quite troublesome.

I can understand.

Yeah, every load I've seen so far has either been in an elevator, or in an empty hallway when transitioning between two areas. No loads mid-puzzle or anything stupid like that.

There is, regrettably, a small load time that's longer than the previous game on the 360 as well. Even when it's installed to the disc.

Is this within the actual levels or in between (i.e. riding the elevator to the next)?

Every elevator ride.

330 posts? There is no way I'm reading through all that now.

I just wanted to pop in and say that I stole an hour of PTO this morning to give it a look and I really appreciate all the little touches they've worked in.

The puzzles that I saw in the previous demos have all been slightly modified in the release. The Giant Bomb demo room was still there but the turrets had been taken out. Nice of them to make these little changes to keep the rooms fresh even after showing us how they work.

And by the way; was that an obese turret shutting me out of the elevator?

Well the PS3 controls feel great. There is a loading screen of 5-10 seconds between each stage so far, when riding the elevator. Not too bad for a game that doesn't install to the hard drive I guess.

Not sure if there's a similar loading bit on the PC, as that is still only halfway done downloading. Think I'll stick with the PS3 version for a while. That's the only thing that doesn't cross over, save files. Achievements, friends, coop, all good, but the single player save files only work from ps3-ps3 or pc-pc on your Steam account. Now that I'm in I might as well keep at it.

Glad to hear that the Steam on PS3 stuff seems to be working well. It also sounds like the porting of the game to the PS3 was much better this time than the craptacular job done by EA last time around.

I can't wait to get my hands on the game, but I'm on my UPS guy's afternoon route. He generally shows between 2 and 3, but with the constant thunderstorms and severe weather this morning, I wouldn't be surprised if I'm delayed until closer to 5 or even shifted over into tomorrow's deliveries.

EDIT: Also may I have an invite to the steam group?

Whatever site (presumably 4chan) that's organizing the metabombing of Portal 2 is shameful. :l

If you look past the $90 day one DLC...

WTF, people?

Honestly, Metacritic user reviews have always been horrible. Every game either gets carpet-bombed by a bunch of haters, or turns into a fanboy-hater flame war. I doubt anyone in the games industry pays much attention to them any more. If the anti-Portal crowd wants to devote all their energy to spamming Metacritic, just let 'em. It keeps them busy, and everyone else can safely ignore them and go on talking about HOW AWESOME PORTAL 2 IS OMG YOU GUYS!!!!!!!

Also, maybe I'm alone in this, but listening to all of the Ricky Gervais Podcast ebooks back to back to back to back... this fall/winter hasn't done me any favors. That is all.

Anyone playing this on the 360? Any word on how the controls feels?

I am. It feels as good as the last game. No problems. Typical Valve polish. As far as the game goes I wasn't in love with the opening and thought some of the humor was a little too over the top and not as clever. And then I got far enough in to see the villain and my happiness level went up exponentially as she spoke.

But yeah, the game feels great. Other than the fact that there are tons of people who will be playing on PC, I say jump in. I'll be playing co-op on 360.

That's good to hear. I'm on the 360 but I don't have XboxLive right now due to a furniture move that borked my hardline to the machine. I'll be trying to setup wireless and play this after the build at work tonight. Don't expect to see me until some ridiculous time Pacific, though.

Here's a question. Does co-op have anything to do with the story in the SP game? Will I ruin the SP story by jumping into co-op before finishing the SP game?

"Out for delivery, delivers by 3 pm*"

Yay!

"(* 6 pm for residential deliveries)"

Boo!

Co-op is said to tie into the main campaign's story somehow, but I don't know how.

I haven't tried co-op yet, but RPS mentioned something about the co-op campaign referencing events in the SP story.

Or alternatively, the game is undeniably complete garbage so naturally the user reviews are trying to trick other people into making the terrible purchasing decision they did.

Basically, that's why I stick to forums to get general opinions. User reviews on sites like Metacritic and Amazon are completely unreliable because a) gamers like to hold stupid biases and grudges and/or b) have terrible taste.

Not to mention are complete liars. Just like the user reviews for Crysis 2, Dragon Age 2, etc., the massive amount of negative scores for Portal 2 were starting to come in within minutes of the option being open on Metacritic, suggesting it's unlikely the vast majority of those people have even played the game.

People on the SomethingAwful forums who played the game the second it unlocked last night are telling people to wait and play co-op until after single player if you're really sensitive about spoilers. Something about the last level of the campaign that won't be a surprise if you started co-op.

Anybody know how long co-op is supposed to be? Wondering if it's worth starting up my Xbox Live account for it...

The writing is good.

That does it.

I'm finishing single-player before playing any co-op.

Yeah, thanks for answering that question. I might have been tempted to jump into co-op immediately, but now I'll wait.

According to the RPS review co-op follows on from the SP in terms of story and it assumes knowledge of the game mechanics.

Curse you Steam. Servers too busy to install!

Could I be added to the group, please? Y'all probably have me on at LEAST one or two games, and I'm at work so I don't remember if it's by my handle or by my original username.

<----

all caught up I think if I missed you let me know

Try switching your download location to somewhere that's asleep right now.

we can't have that. how 'bout an invite? Link in the sig.

I played a few hours and I think it's alright. I mean the puzzles are a ton of fun, but the parts where you just have to stand around for a minute looking for the right place to put a portal aren't. Not too fond of the new characters either and the "don't worry about thing x that might kill you"-jokes feel recycled from the first game.

Now I sound really negative =/. I like it but I bet all the reviews are going to say it's the second coming of christ or something.

Spoiler:

Look at you, soaring through the air, like an eagle... piloting a blimp

Ahahahaha. Best laugh I've had from a game in ages.

I'm sooo tempted to start a brand new, "So, any good games out recently?" thread on this board.
