Portal 2 Catch-All

First of all, this game runs extremely well and looks pretty amazing. My framerate has not once dropped below 60. I'd like to see what it looks like on some of the newer rigs people have been building lately. I hope most of you got through the Incomplete Installation of Portal 2 (10) issue. For me, the problem was my firewall blocking Valve's servers. After I told it to unblock, everything worked great.

Haven't touched co-op yet, but I am looking forward to it as single player has been an absolute blast. Easily the best single player experience of the past few years, as I can think of nothing I've had more fun with. Really glad I broke down and made a purchase today.

Even with the raving reviews and Portal 1 being on my top 10 games of all time list, I am not paying €50 (~$75) for that game. Come to think of it, there's almost no game I can imagine I would pay that amount for, just to play it on opening day. I guess the price also won't budge during the Easter sale.

PS: Steam sales really have become the Valve's way of saying "Sup, non-Americans. For the next week you'll be able to buy most games for the price that people being paid in Dollars have all year. Of course they also get it cheaper during the sale, but whatever, complainers. Suck it, we have a Kobe lobster lunch to go to."

Edit: Just to clarify, €50 has been the AAA price point for a long time, so my problem is less with that amount but Steam's total ignorance of the shifting exchange rates between US Dollar and all other major currencies.

In other news, within the first few hours P2 has knocked CS, CSS, MW2 and blops off the top of the most played list.

decrypting was locking up at 32%, now validating steam files is locking up at the same percent.

I guess I got up early for nothing.

If there's still disc activity then just leave it and be patient, sometimes steam can still lock it's UI. If all else fails just kill the steam task and restart it, I find it eventually gets there. Almost strangely for me, I had no issues with the unlocking this time.

Yeah but I got up early so I could play. Bah now I'll have to wait till this evening and still have had less sleep.

Yeah, that's what's making me crack too. Quite a review.

Chapter 5?

Spoiler:

The turret manufacturing sequence had me in stitches. Don't matter if you're approved or defective, you all burn the same.
"I did everything you asked!" *FWOOSH*

The Face-Heel turn surprised me a bit, but you could kinda see it coming.

Three words:

BUY THIS GAME.

That is all.

damnit Amazon... I WANT MY GAMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

Whoo hoo! It did finally unlock. I managed to get about a half hour of play in this morning.

The entire game looks beautiful and it is both as enjoyable and funny as the first one.

It's raining. What the hell does that mean?

Take that Wardell.

Well played.

It's a damn good thing for Wardell that the resources for Steam screwed up Portal 2 so badly.

I mean, it's already like comparing a ten story office building to Tinkertoys -- just imagine how embarrassing it would be to Stardock if Valve had brought their actual A game to bear.

Guys, don't be nasty now. No matter how funny.

All of the spoiler'd bits (more specifically the words before and after them) on the last 2 pages taunting me. I'm unable to bring myself to read them yet, as my copy of Portal 2 is sitting in a nearby Best Buy, which is scheduled to unlock in another hour and a half. Sadly, no amount of potatoes will allow it to unlock any faster.

Nonsense. A truck full of potatoes driven through the doors of the Best Buy will get you access.

Anyone playing this on the 360? Any word on how the controls feels?

Welp, time to avoid games news and forums for a few days until I finish this game. See ya.

You know, I guess I should feel lucky that I like my job, or that I even have a job, but this is going to be one of those days where I hate every minute I spend at work.

On a side note, can we all agree that the "user reviews" of Metacritic are 100% useless? This happens within hours of any AAA game that has released this year.

I only got to the middle of chapter 2 before I was waaaaaay too tired to keep playing and still go to work.

Spoiler:

GLaDOS is creeping me the f*ck out. She brings passive/aggressive menace to an entirely new level.

This not have Steam saves? My key binds transfered between PCs, but not my actual saves.

Maybe it was just the server issues they were having late last night?

When I woke up, I predicted there will be 54 new posts in this thread. There were 53

Ok, now I know some of you will blaze through the game by day's end. So, for you bingers, I'm curious what the total playtime ends up being.

Get a grip, internet.

Seriously, who are these oddballs moaning about 'DAY 1 DLC I'VE BEEN RIPPED OFF' when we're talking skin packs and sodding hats, all optional, all cosmetic?

And the ones saying they've completed the game in 3 hours are either lying or they're on amphetemines.

I too am interested on how the console versions came out. Particularly how the split-screen co-op plays. The glowing reviews are making me want to pick this up sooner then I was planning.

For some games I have had to toggle the cloud save button in the Steam game properties panel to get it to start working.

This is a placeholder, so I know where to pick up following the thread after I've played. Catching up on all the angst from last night's unlocking was pretty fun.

I've been trying not to read the achievements everyone is unlocking on Steam, but it's so hard not to.

So far, the 5 story achievements I've unlocked (one for starting each chapter, I think) are written well enough that they don't give anything away.

...how am I going to make it all the way to this evening...

Oh, for those of you playing, did you find any

Spoiler:

graffiti'd hiding spots? Aside from the obvious one where you first pick up the portal gun, the only one I found was in a tall hidey-spot in the room where you had to put the cube on the portal'd light beam, go stand on the platform, then end the beam and drop the cube onto the button to progress (15 or 16, maybe?)

Just looked and it's enabled on both PCs.

It's only annoying because I'm between PCs in an upgrade.

Not a huge deal I guess.

So has it been confirmed if Portal 2 has the Developer Commentary nodes as found in HL: Ep. 2 and Portal 1?

It's in the menus.
