Brink Catch-All

Me Purple People Eater!

My question about the customization stuff is do you have two setups? Cops and rebels? Or even more, with setups per body class as well?

And do you level both sides at the same time, or are there two leveling/unlocks systems?

I htink you have two setups one for each side. Thats what they made it look like at least.

One of the interviews or news articles mentioned 6-8 character slots which I would assume work in the manner most every game handles such a concept: Every avatar is a blank slate.

Well newegg is offering $10 off for pre-orders of both 360 and PS3 versions, but the PC one is already $49.99 and doesn't look to be getting a discount.

A lot of new footage

nice!

Couple of things i've noticed on this one... They seem to have a lifebar show up when you're shooting someone. Not sure if thats on the MP side or not. It also seems you get xp depending on how much damage you do to a target. So even if you didnt get the kill shot you're probably getting most reward for doing the most dmg.

I wonder if multiple people can take the same job. I can see lots of good and bad coming from either option.

For instance, if multiple people do take the same job, then you get into fighting to do it and get the points. If it's not allowed, griefing will occur as people take the job then run the other way to intentionally not allow their team to proceed if it's a critical task.

I assume they have to let multiple people give it, or at least time limit it. Even time limiting it could be griefed with multiple people involved.

I think they offer you jobs based on your loadout. They're objectives that get you points but you have no obligation to actually do that job, nor does your team require you (specifically) to do it. Someone else can come along and do it too. If you take a job you don't actually intend to complete, you only hurt yourself.

Actually to get past certain checkpoints you HAVE to have a specific class do a specific job.

Not sure if it had been posted yet. http://www.next-gen.biz/features/bal...

You said the classes are tied to the maps. Is that due to the new unique missions for each class?
NA: That's exactly it. For any stage in the map you'll have primary and secondary objectives that will require a specific class. In container city, if you don't have a soldier then you're not getting past the first objective.

At the same time that can be great encouragement to try a new class if you haven't.

Hmm, yeah. My one complaint now with Brink is it looks very much like a video game. Lots of HUD elements and quick jerky animations. Initial videos looked smoother since they focused on the traversal mechanic. Also I'm not a fan of the leveling to unlock guns fad that's sweeping through all modern shooters, especially when the guns are all slight variants on standard archetypes like shotguns and SMGs.

Still, I'm cautiously optimistic. Gonna wait for some positive reviews and buzz before jumping in.

If you don't have a competent tactician on your team in killzone 3, you're losing 9 of 10 times.

I was just thinking it looks and sounds really polished.

I think the grenade toss animation looks odd, just like it did in Homefront.

The other stuff looks fine to me for this type of game, especially with a non-realistic art style.

I'm not saying it isn't polished, just that it's polished into being a game where certain elements yield to gameplay considerations. They wanted a certain kind of gameplay so they had to cut back on having more elaborate and smooth animations while still keeping a semi-realistic style. It reminds me of Left4Dead for example, it's a problem most modern shooters have. Personally I care more about gameplay than graphics, but I think TF2 does the stylized look better and Battlefield does the realism better. Brink seems to sit on that middle ground where Unreal and Quake once sat, which may or may not work out again.

OK, I'll buy that. I did also notice that it looks less stylized and more realistic than in previous clips. Part of that might just be polish, though. Maybe they'd always intended things to be dusty? I don't know. There are pros and cons for both sides.

Whats going to be interesting also will be the folks who forego playing at their own lvl to play with friends and feel frustrated about the lack of goodies they have.

I'm not sure how I feel about that. Yes it encourages teamwork, but at the same time it forces you or someone else to play a specific class.

Just like the rest of the Enemy Territory games.

That's what I've been waiting for. Sold. (I already pre-ordered :P)

Yeah, try completing any of the original ET maps without an Engineer.

Okay. That video looks really sexy. I think I have to go back on my intention to not get this because I really want female characters. Instead I will buy it because I want to support the change-over from "FPS with cover" to "FPS with freaking awesome". And I can hope they'll add female characters after release.

So are we going to have good numbers with this? I only want to play with GWJ'ers but the Steam group has 10 people and the spreadsheet has 3 PC people and 5 360. I'm trying to decide on platform now.

I'm planing on picking this up for PC. Didn't realize we had a steam group already.

I'm still on the fence, but I would definitely get the PC version.

I think the PC version will get a nice group of players. With all the TF2 and L4D players we have, it shouldn't be that hard to get a server going for this either. Dedicated servers definitely make the PC version more attractive, and Steamworks making it easy to join from your Steam friends list too.

I'm just not 100% on whether I'm pre-ordering yet or not. Witcher 2 also in May. Depends on the size of the pile in a few weeks.

And there's always the Steam summer sale in June. Game might be $25-35 then, just a month after release or so.

If there was a $10 off for the PC like there is for the console versions I'd more strongly consider pre-order. But Amazon and newegg never offer for the PC versions, but always for the consoles.

GWJ Brink group is still public for now, so people can quickly pre-join before release.

Yeah, pointer to the steam group? Search isn't finding it and it's not in the OP.

For a while Ive wondered on how having cool downs on classes would work in a game. This seems to be an abstraction of that idea.

Something to bear in mind is that the someone else it might force, could be the person who ruins other games because they've got no incentive to change class.

Also, my broad view on team games is to win, one sometimes has to do things one doesn't enjoy.
