Portal 2 Catch-All

Kind of insane question, but does Portal 1 run on the Macbook Air? Anyone know? I am toying with picking up the PC copy and playing it on my Mac on either the Windows partition or Mac. The 320M processor combined with an SSD can pull off some games you wouldn't think like STALKER: SoC. However, I wasn't sure about Portal and by inference Portal 2.

Lots of free copies of Portal 1 available around here you could test with. PM me and I can send you mine. There's also a whole thread for that.

It should run (it runs on a 330M) but you might have framerate issues. Source games seem to chug on Macs.

How so?

Not much of a money grab if it doesn't make you spend money is it?

Also, thanks for telling me what my post meant.

You asked for an example, so you're welcome I guess.

Never figured I'd see a Portal thread get this argumentative.

The reaction to this has pretty much blown me away.

That's not a money grab, that's exploitation.

Sell the potato pack is one thing. Tying it to TF2 with a hat is a money grab. They know there are quite a few people that will buy anything that will get them a hat. Tying it to the highly anticipated release of their new game is also a money grab.

I would have been perfectly fine just stating my displeasure for the what Valve is doing. But, some people seem to be unable to grasp the fact that there are people that don't automatically love everything Valve does and, honestly, have been pricks about it. It's not acceptable that somebody should have to leave the thread because he's being attacked for having a different opinion.

Invite to what again? whatever it is I want to be popular too!

By that definition, only governments and monopolies can conduct money grabs.

A useful definition would include the Potato pack. This is right up there with 'horse armor' in the value returned for dollars and time invested.

And with horse armor, at least you knew you were getting horse armor.

Yeesh, apparently the business of Portal 2 is more seriouser than the internet.

A little harsh perhaps, unless the only value you see in the Potato pack is the early - sorry, "early" - unlocking. I think in terms of amount of game for money, the potato pack seemed good, with a freebie-maybe from the what-has-tempestually-in-a-teapotishly-become-a-fiasco.

The reaction has been much more "What are you talking about? That makes no sense." than "You don't love Valve, you don't belong here, SHUN SHUN." And since then it has just escalated with the "Stop shunning!" leading to "What are you talking about? That makes no sense." part two.

From this side of the discussion, it's very confusing.

This is a silly thing to get worked up over. It's a video game release on an arbitrary date. I'll be glad when 12:01 AM rolls around so hopefully we can stop focusing on this trivial crap and start focusing on how bad the launch is going. We're gamers, we have to Female Doggo about something dammit!

the portals are working we've moved to P&C.

This seems to be a growing trend around the here lately. Someone shares an opinion that differs from the majority and the discussion devolves for some reason. It's fascinating.

I'm just sad that I can't play until I get home from work.

"Engaging starch-based power cells"

The theory is that they're adding considerable fuel to the remaining individual meters. Which is why they've jumped up so much since then.

What the hell is going on with the potato auxiliary power? It's going down really quickly.

Edit: It's saying - tannhausered. those were some quick responses.

Man, I remember when video games used to be fun.

Yeah I'm wondering that too. The GLaDOS text is showing:

11:00 - Reboot safety test protocol initiated...
11:00 - Relaxation chamber locks released...
11:00 - Involuntary hazard mitigation associates have assumed testing positions...
11:00 - Pre-release lethality assessment initiated...

Very odd...

Maybe when it hit 500k potatoes?

In 48 hours we'll all have forgotten about the ARG and will be repeating new memes from the game ad nauseum anyways.

Also, people have already worked out that the other bars are speeding up their progression and it is estimated that by the time the potatoes hit zero, it'll be midnight anyways so don't get too excited again.

I remember when they weren't all packaged goods. When, in fact, a packaged good meant a cloth map.

I could see that. The graphs are starting to spike for all the games that are left.

You can also apparently see the G-Man in the background image of the site now. Jesus, if this is an Episode 3 announcement...no, no it isn't, no way...

this is serius bidness.

Something is definitely going on with the countdown/timer/potato thingy.

Surprise launch imminent?

Only if the only value you attribute to the potato pack is its potential contribution to an early Portal 2 release. I, for one, got 13 interesting indie games for <$40. That beats horse armor in my book.
