*Release* Rift Rogue Discussion

For all the mid-level aspiring rogues, I can now craft Fine Leather Leggings.

I still require donations of actual fine leather (may have enough for perhaps one more set of pants). The rest I can craft or purchase. I think the total expense to me is around 2-3g, so no biggie. Just hit me up when I'm online (Spike/Joy/Taya/Moondragon).

thanks again for mine!

Send it to Lt. Warhound, as he's the guy with the recipe for Fine Leather. I think he wrote out the recipe on the previous page.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait a minute there. You can aoe better than a sab? Guess I'm going to have to play around with my skills again to see what the Virtuoso skill is all about.

Don't wet yourself, Virtuoso is on a three minute cooldown, so it's more of a once-per battle emergency contingency plan- it stops your abilities from consuming charges for 15 seconds, so in that space of time your use of codas is limited only by the global cooldown. Basically you can run around, aggro as many mobs as you want, then pop Virtuoso and use Coda of Fury to aoe them all to death. 15 seconds is more than enough time.

Oh, how I'm going to laugh when the nerf stick starts swinging.

You shut your dirty mouth!

I was reading through the patch notes while my client updates- it doesn't look like either bard or saboteur were all that seriously nerfed. In fact, there were even some minor buffs, particularly in how bard healing is parsed between players and how sab crit calculations are now per-charge rather than as a lump sum.

i am pretty confident that someone at trion hates rogues

Why is that? My assassin/nightblade still feels the same and quite viable.

I'm specced Bard/Ranger/Marksman

I specced up Bard just far enough to get my heals in the third from the top tier/ my Ranger to the point of the Improved Razorback / and have only just started speccing Marksman, though I'll likely change those points over. I can see that I'm done with Bard and Ranger, but I'd like to actually get the Marksman fire abilities with the remainder of my 14 points.

With the Ranger AOE, Hail of Arrows I can pull three or four equal mobs, have my razorback take one, turn on all my motifs and burn through them. If I end up with adds, I simply go with my healies from the Bard line while my pet and my cadence winnows them down. Its like pushing the easy button on the easy button machine. I had originally gone riftstalker for all the passive buffs, but they weren't really helping as far as I could tell much and I wasn't going to be using any of the melee abilities from that.

In PvP, I change over to the full Marksman build with Assassin thrown in. For damage, there's nothing quite like it. Range, massive DPS and using specials while moving.

this is much better news than last week when the dev was like "oh well we think rogue is exactly where they should be"

To my fellow Rogues,

Thank you for posting your feedback and suggestions in the forums. I really appreciate your time and effort trying out various builds and sharing them with the both the community and us. Many of the changes we will be introducing in the next patch are a result of the community’s hard work and dedication to the calling.

Assassin
As we all know, the Assassin is the cold-blooded killer who selectively picks his target and vanquishes his victim with ruthless efficiency. Unfortunately, they lack the punch we want them to have. As such we are looking to improve both their initial burst and their overall DPS over time. In addition we have been working on many of the Stealth bugs people have been reporting and we hope to get them fixed for the next patch.

Bladedancer
While the Bladedancer is an excellent soul for soloing and brings some fantastic utility to the table, they are still not hitting the DPS goal we expect them to. As such, we are looking to tweak a number of their core abilities upwards to make sure the Bladedancer’s DPS is more in line with what we’d expect from a whirling dervish of destruction.

Marksman
Finally for the Marksman, there are two areas of concern we are looking to address. Firstly, the Marksman’s overall DPS is not at a level we are happy with. Secondly, the Marksman is too reliant on the use of cooldowns to get the most out of its soul. With these in mind, we are reviewing their situational long cooldown abilities and DPS abilities with the intent of improving their overall performance and reducing the number of buttons players need to worry about.

Once again, thank you for all your feedback. The preview above is an outline of our intention for the upcoming patch and does not include a complete list of changes and fixes. More details will be added as we move closer to patch day.

That is some sweet news. As I already said, my Assassin/Nightblade already feels pretty badass. I'm currently running with 2 points in Marksman just for ranged dps, but I'm thinking of switching that over to Bard, or Riftstalker for some extra healing. Bard would be good for additional range and possibly group buffs. But Riftstalker would be good for extra elemental DPS (although that may end up putting way too many abilities on my bars).

riftstalker for elemental dps?

If you're going for elemental DPS I'd actually suggest Nightblade. With that build you're primarily throwing around fire damage though it does have some death attacks as well. For DPS I'd say it's head and shoulders above Riftstalker. For a dozen levels or so I messed around with a Nightblade/Riftstalker build, heavy on the NB, and it was a beast of a build with great damage and good survivability. Only recently did I drop that build for an assassin/rift build.

*edit* These builds were for when I solo'd. For a group build I'd probably drop most, if not all, of the riftstalker points in favor of bladedancer

Yeah. My build comments are all about solo leveling (since that's the most of what I do at the moment). I like having 2 incapacitates, 2 battle mezzes, major damage reduction ability and finally battle activated stealth. It increases my survivability by leagues and bounds. Although I can see how most of these things aren't all that useful in a group/raid setting.

But I should mention that as a level 42 character, I successfully incapacitated a raid instance (River of Souls) patrol mobs. So those skills may see use again as you enter higher level fights.
