Peter Jackson directs "The Hobbit"

Lionel's words are NEVER hollow!

Plus he has the Sword of Omens.

Finally they completed casting!

Director Peter Jackson, who’s returning to direct his fourth and fifth Lord of the Rings-related film (yes, The Hobbit will be a two-parter) had this to say: "Despite some delays we are fully back on track and very excited to get started."

Well, almost four years after they announced it they finally began shooting. Here is the first of what seems to be many behind the scenes looks.

Also, lets change the title to something else since it's no longer a rumor! Yay!

A very neat video blog. Worth watching.

So this thing is actually getting made? I keep feeling like it's gonna fall through.

I know.. it's like Terry Gilliam's attached to the production somehow.

I thought this was old news, I've been reading stories from the last few days about Jackson justifying filming at 48 FPS.

So cool! I can't wait.

Is it in 3D??

It would never fly, but I would love it if only the dragon's hoard scenes were in 3-D, to increase the sense of disorientation when Smaug speaks. Otherwise, man I hope not.

It takes place in Bag End? Dude! Spoilers!

That was actually a really cool video.

Yeah, it really was. Very cool. But did we expect anything else?

Is it just me, or does working on LotR/The Hobbit seem like the coolest job in the world?

No, but I'm kinda burnt out on LOTR, so I'm not exactly the most excited person in the world about the Hobbit. The fact that video has me interested now is pretty impressive.

I understand that and sympathize, but I think I'm more burned out on the 'new', merchandise-y LotR and its psychopathic fans. Not on the stories or on Tolkien, and since I thought Jackson did a good job with the first three, I was kind of expecting to be excited.

Know where you're coming from, though.

Just noticed on IMDB that there is going to be two parts to The Hobbit

Maybe it's milking, maybe not. But that was in the original announcement in 2007.

If you're truly avoiding spoilers, don't click through to the full video and look at the list of credited actors.

The Hobbit Part One: There
The Hobbit Part Two: And Back Again

I really hope they stay true to the tone of the book. Personally I'm not a fan of LotR but I really liked the Hobbit and I think it's possible they could make an amazing movie based on it. I don't need all of the corny humor to stay in as long as the soul is there.

He puts on 3D glasses and jokes about them at the very beginning of the video, so I'm guessing that's Jackson's way of saying it'll be in 3D.

Guys, this is Peter Jackson we're talking about. The man who took 4 hours to tell the story of King Kong. If anything, he's going to have a hard time not stretching this out to a third movie.

And I was doing so well forgetting that movie exists... :(

Someone quick, bring up something cool about Lord of the Rings films!

I forgot how funny this image is. Thanks for pointing out your previous use of the Vol I: There/Vol II: Back Again joke and making me go back some pages Gravey!

I say again, "Man, I hope not."

While I'm not uber-excited about it being in 3D, I'm willing to give Jackson the benefit of the doubt. Considering how well-made his LoTR movies were, I'm sure he'll be putting just as much effort into the 3D that it is a sensible and fun part of the experience rather than a constant gag.

If it's in 3D, and it looks good, I'll see it in a 2D showing. If for some reason one isn't available, I'll wait for the home video release.
