The quest for a great wallet.

I use the sailcloth version of the All-Ett. I'm on my second in 10 years ($17 each, so hardly problematic). AMAZINGLY thin, carries everything I need: bills, credit cards, membership cards, gift cards, insurance cards for me and the kids. Even has two compartments for bills, which I've found helpful when traveling internationally. It doesn't look like much, but the black goes unnoticed by most folks as anything different. Then again, I've never really cared what my wallet looked like, just how it performs.

Sailcloth All-Ett user here as well. Had mine for about 4 years now, super-thin, and holds a whole bunch of cards. Highly recommended.

This has always bugged me but shouldn't bi-fold wallets be called uni-fold wallets?

Most wallets have a fold under the money pouch, so if you have two flaps, that's the second fold.

Behold my wallet. Er, money clip. Tacky yet functional.

All-ETT wallets seem to be in the majority here I guess for a reason! I must research more...

With all of the retro fashion going on (fluorescent rubber varnet rip-off sunglasses, foam mesh fluorescent hats) WILL SOMEONE PLEASE MAKE THE FANNY PACK "IN" AGAIN.

I'm waiting patiently for the day I don't have to sit on my wallet. Cargo pants were a blessing, but not quite there yet. I guess being old and bald, I'll never be able to capitalize on the trend should become hip again. I'm left with blazer pockets; but that significantly increases the cost of my wardrobe and leaves me pocketless on hot summer days.

Maybe I'll wear a fanny pack ironically.

The failure of logic here lies in the fact that the fanny pack was never "in" to start with. Yes, people did wear them, but we all made fun of them even back in the early 80's.

Fanny pack in England means "vagina bag".

Isn't that what it means here, too?

I'm telling you. Fanny pack and bodybuilder pants. Comfort and function. All in one three wolf moon package.

Check out a bag like this.

I have a generic that has the removable holder for credit cards. I took that out and put my stuff in there. I threw the wallet in a drawer.

I carry only a metal card holder. But instead of rocking business cards, it contains 5 plastic cards that I need. Change goes into my pants pocket. Money wad goes into another pocket.

I'm really liking the card holder, once I got used to it. For one, it ensures that cards don't get broken or demagnetized. It also forces me to not lug around bunch of crap I don't really need. I keep a secondary wallet type thing in the car for all of the remaining junk that may or may not be needed less often (e.g. discount cards, membership cards, insurance cards (other than my health card), etc.).

Can you explain the broken/demagnetized part? My debit card is issued for two years and it only makes it a year. Gets really annoying having to pay the bank to issue me a new card because I do too much of what they want me to do with it and it gets demagnetized/broken.

The ideal wallet is made of playing cards, cello tape, and intuition.

This word, I do not think it means what you think it means.

My only two requirements for a wallet are that it hold all the ridiculous member cards stores insist I use, and at the same time be incredibly thin, because I hate carrying a wallet around. So I use and love the sailcloth All-Ett. For anything else it doesn't really work. It's very slippery so cards slide out unless you pack them in. It feels and looks cheap. But it's thin and can hold tons of cards, so I love it.

I made one, and it was so stylish that some rascal was compelled to steal it, not for its contents, but for its [b]genius[quote].

I concur, the leather All-Ett I have does a great job of this as well.

What you need is a bandolier. Like Chewbacca.

My wallet is pretty much the nerdiest thing I own (other than my stupid face and programmer's body, natch).

What about one that says "Bad Mutha Censored"?

Hell Ya, if I could get away with a tactical vest and still be considered business casual....

Wait. What?

I work in a bank as a technical project manager, and have worked on a lot of ATM and plastic card projects over the years and have not heard of any of our competitors charging for replacement cards.

That's low. Hope we don't ever do stuff like that.

There's always this:

Always wanted to rock one of those, but I think it would be just a little bit too much, since I don't often wear a sportcoat.

Then again, I get funny looks on a regular basis anyway...

I had the perfect wallet. Small enough to fit in my front pocket, attached money clip that was strong enough not to slip even with single bills, durable enough to make it through the last 5 years, and stylish enough to dress up or down with everything I wear. It's wearing at the corners though. It's not, by any means, worn out, but I wish I could get another one.

Maybe one with some woven steel/built in Faraday cage to protect your chip cards from remote data theft? http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/security/8cdd/ , http://www.thinkgeek.com/homeoffice/gear/9964/

Sure one might argue that is being overly paranoid however I am reminded of

Now see. Here's the new generation of the fanny pack. From your link.

Imagine if there were some way to wear this and not be seen as "eccentric".

Yeah. $10. It's not much but it's a bit galling.

Agreed. Seems illogical. We make money when you use your cards, so why would we make it harder for you to do that? Gah.

Checks on the other hand cost us a lot of money to process, so we don't give them away for free to everyone (only select package accounts we make money other ways on).

I used to have a Costanza wallet, but now I use a Dopp Regatta 88, and couldn't be happier with it.

I've been looking for a replacement to my NES Controller wallet - a simple nylon, velcro wallet, with a flat plastic 'controller' sewn into the top - purchased at Hot Topic about 6 years ago...But literally EVERY time I think about replacing it, I take it out and someone at some random shop says, "Wow - cool wallet." So it is falling apart now, but I could potentially replace it with one of the aluminum cases and glue the NES part on the top.

I really like the look of that Ogon wallet. It would even hold/fit my larger-than-I-expected Irish driving license (4.2"x3"). But I've been reading reviews that the enclosure is flimsy and breaks easily. Anyone have experience with this, and/or can you recommend something simliar in that form factor/size?

Thanks to this thread just bought the ALL - ETT leather wallet with interior plastic ID view port. I hate having to drag that thing out every time i make a purchase.

I use this one, but it's large so you'd probably be happier with one of the other models from this page. Whichever one you picked, you'd know your wallet issues were covered for the remainder of your life.

Or you can buy some girly piece of junk...

Thanks to Elycion for this tip. I just ordered a Saddleback BiFold. Yes, expensive. But I like the idea of buy-once, keep it for a lifetime. I've had my current wallet for 7 or 8 years, so assuming I don't lose this new one, I can give it to my daughter as a family heirloom when she's older. Or maybe a grandkid...or great grandkid...Cool.
