WoW: Cataclysm - SPOILERS WITHIN

This problem is a direct result of making heroics harder, like Zeered said.

I have a question about professions -- right now I'm leveling a druid with dual-gathering. Is it worth it to switch to leatherworking at some point?

I don't plan to raid, but I wouldn't mind occasionally running a heroic once I get to top level. I prefer the DPS role, but am willing to be talked into trying healing.

I'd be tempted to say stay with dual gathering, unless there's a specific crafted BoP recipe you've got your eye on.
-If you're thinking of trading the gathered trade goods, you can make a decent amount of cash from that and buy BoE stuff with the proceeds.
-If you're thinking of making a profit by selling BoE armour, then you're going to have to get in line behind everyone else, and seeing as you're not planning on raiding you'll be 'below' all the lucrative raid BoE drops.
-If you're after a BoE crafted armour, you can make friends with (tip ) a leatherworker and supply them with the materials.

That's just looking at it from the money and how easy it is side. Crafting can be good just for making your own stuff.

Druids are the best gatherers in the game with flight form, I wouldn't do crafting on one. If you really want a leatherworker do it on your next character.

It's true. You know what the hardest instance in the game right now is? Heroic BRC. Know why? Because people are idiots. I cringe whenever it pops because I know there will be somebody that doesn't move away from the 1st bosses whirlwind, that screws up the beam, that fails at healing the fire boss, that can't properly CC the dogs, or can't kite the boss adds.

As gear levels have creeped up, every other instance has gotten significantly easier to completely PUG tank because I can usually overgear most trash pulls (if the healer isn't terrible) and the boss mechanics are usually trivial. However, even with chain pulling, they still take 45 minutes to complete in a very well geared group that knows and can properly execute every fight.

That said, Deathchargers reins, please.

EDIT: Which is not to say I'm an elitist tank that rage quits at the first sign of the trouble... but I really don't have time to deal with explaining every single fight every time to people who don't care to listen.

@ Katy: By double-gathering, do you mean herbing and mining? If you want to level quickly, stick with them. Both award XP, and lots of it. You'll also rack up a lot of gold by selling what you dredge up.

If you want to be a leatherworker, you're going to want to be a skinner, too (unless you have another toon who can skin for you). Otherwise you'll bankrupt yourself buying leather. (Btw, skinning gives you +crit, which is nice for a feral druid.)

Leatherworking, frankly, isn't much fun, and there isn't a ton of money to be made in it (compared to other profs). I leveled every profession to max in Wrath, and Leatherworking was by far my least favorite.

No, herbing / skinning. And yes, I've been enjoying all the excess gold so far.

I'd really been wondering if there was a best-in-slot item or set of items that made leatherworking a highly-recommended idea.

Leatherworkers do have the bracer enhancements that are BIS by a ton. But the stat options are for primary stats only - no haste, no mastery. That's nitpicky, but there you go.

The only BIS advantage that leatherworkers have are with the leg armors -- yours cost a ton less than ones you'd have to buy on the open market. Problem is, the leg armors really work only for bear and cat druids. If you're a boomkin or tree druid, there's not really a leg armor for you.

Herbing's pretty profitable these days. I'm making anywhere from 75s to 2G for Azeroth herbs, and they're everywhere these days.

Not that I'm playing WoW these days, but stay double gathering forever unless you become a truly hardcore raider who lies awake at night thinking about min-maxing. Otherwise, the gold from double-gathering far outweighs the cheaper leg armor that Enix mentioned.

Dude I am totally seeing that now in caty. I have been a Skin/LW on my main and never switched. I am a Hunter so it has been cool to actually craft items that I can wear and some my other toons can as well. In caty LW can make some nice tanking cloaks. Skinning will make you alot of gold since all the patterns for LW past 500 skill level cost 10 heavy savage leather which is 50 savage leather. That may not sound like all too much but the patterns themselve then cost like 8 heavy savage to craft.

I have yet to find a suitable place to skin mobs like I used to do in Nagrand during TBC and Scholazar Basin in Wrath. I mean I can get the exoctics skins in Twilight and Vashjr but for normal leather it has been a slow process for me and I can't quite figure out my niche yet.

Yes, skinners get a raw deal in cata, although I suppose it's to be expected fighting elementals. On the other hand, I kind of like that there's not just 'the skinning farming place' or 'the elemental farming place', etc. After a while it just becomes design by checkbox.

BH is the best place to skin when there's not a battle going on. Just farm the crocs. It's even better right after a battle because if people arent skinning themselves they're leaving the corpes there for ya.

There are tons of skinning areas in Cat. Twilight Highlands is a great money maker.

Well sure, anywhere with beasts, but I don't recall anywhere great for farming. Perhaps a few regions of Uldum

Every time I'm in there I have skinners waiting for me to finish killing the crocs. As soon as I hear the loot sound, I hear the whoosh whoosh whoosh of the skinning knife.

@Demonic: I can't tell if you're agreeing or disagreeing with me. Sure, you can make some decent money with skinning. And LWing will give you gear for multiple classes. My first main was a skinner/LW, and he made stuff for himself and my old druid. If Sherm was on the same server, he'd be getting shaman leather and mail.

Maybe my dislike for LWing is because I got burned out on skinning. The mats you collect are only for one profession; herbing and mining give you mats for multiple profs (herb => alchemy and inscription; mining = BSing, JCing and engineering). Farming flowers and rocks seemed more efficient than killin' critters and taking their hides back in the day when I was working with multiple professions.

Or maybe it's because LWing just isn't fun. Consider:

Engineering = pets and bombs (!)
Blacksmithing = plate gear (paladins, warriors, DKs), belt buckles (=gold), enchanting rods (=more gold)
Enchanting = lots of gold
Jewelcrafting = lots and lots of gold
Inscription = tons more gold (but only if you have the herbs and time)
Tailoring = gear for cloth classes and a freakin' flying carpet

Alchemy is probably the next most boring profession behind LWing, but at least folks need the flasks and whatnot for raids. Nowadays alchemists get to make a mount. The transmute is a pretty good source of gold, especially if you're supplying a jewelcrafter.

Leatherworking? Well, there's the heavy leather ball ...

Do not knock the heavy leather ball. So much fun in raids to fill up the raid leader's bag so they can't loot things.

You'd fit right in at GWJ-A.

Yup, that's about the size of it.

Sure... fill up my bags... don't heal the GM... try to kill the GM when he is controlled... tough job but yeah, that sounds like you'd fit right in. I'm not sure why the guild pitched in and gave me this shirt with a big target on my back... I think it's that they care.

Kinda interesting.

According to the link above, shadow priests currently have the highest epeen and frost mages the lowest.

Lies, damn lies, and statistics..

Looks like it is time to roll a frost mage!

Does anybody know what happens with items in the mailbox of an account that ran out of game time? Does the mail still expire or is the duration frozen? Last time I logged in must have been a good 3 weeks ago and today I finally got back home. I had some very valuable stuff in the auction house when I left and don't want it to get deleted when the mail expires.

"Why don't you just get a new GTC then, Luggington?", I hear you ask. Well, I am wrapping up work and preparing everything for my big hop across the Atlantic in three weeks and once I arrive I need to set up internet and get a new PC, so there would be no merit to re-activating now safe for the 15 minutes it would take to collect all that mail.

I'd really like to not spend those $15. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I think it does disappear. If you send a bit of mail to someone, it will sit for 30 days in their mail, then automatically return and sit in yours for 30 days, then disappear. That's AFAIK.

Oh I was agreeing with you. LW is nice for a class that wears leather/mail, but it is indeed boring and having to go skinning just to support your other main profession is kind of a Female Doggo.

BH is great. can get a couple hundred skins in 30min or so... more on a good day.

My main is a LW and alchemist Druid. My primary alt is a herb/skinning DK.

This seems like the best thread to catch all our MMO players.

I know there are a lot of you out there that simply play WoW (or Rift or whatever) and don't really follow the greater GWJ community at large. Well, for you guys, I have an announcement for you.

Starting last year, we've been having something called International Goodjer Day, a day where everyone across the community gets together and hangs out. Everyone here is invited to participate in this.

This year, IGWJD is October 15th.

I'm telling you this because I'd like to cordially invite you folks to the event I'm having in Ohio. I'm going to rent hotel space and the thing will run for three day, from the 14th to the 16th. There's plenty of other events going on as well, so if you don't feel like coming out to Ohio, keep your eyes peeled for local events. Or hold you own! There will be a central thread to announce all the parties soon.

If you're interested in my party, the planning thread for it is here and here are the website and twitter feeds.

No matter if you come to my event or not, I encourage everyone to try and participate in IGWJD. We're one hell of a fine community and it's important to revel in that sometime =)

I recommend that those interested in the new Tier 2 dungeons watch videos on the boss encounters as they are quite complicated.

So how did I miss this little tid bit of info from previous patch notes

Account Bound Items

* Many "Account Bound" heirlooms are now labeled as "Battle.net Account Bound", meaning that they can also be traded or mailed to characters that are on different World of Warcraft accounts under the same Battle.net account.
* Mail sent to characters on the same Battle.net account now arrives instantaneously, as it does for the same World of Warcraft account.
* Mailing account-bound items to characters of the opposite faction on the same Battle.net account will now correctly translate faction-specific items to their appropriate equivalent.
