*Release* Rift Catch-All - if it isnt for any of the other threads - it goes here

Can someone confirm me that with a single subscription I can create characters on both zones (Europe/NA)? This is a real deal maker for me, and I need to know for sure.

Since I've read on this thread about beta invites for specific zones, I fear I could lock myself down from the possibility of playing with GWJ'ers

EDIT: Confirmed. My google-fu has been fruitful.

Definitely considering picking this up.

Hey there guys. This game has been picking up some really nice buzz, and I'm thinking about finding a new game to sink some hours in.

A few questions (pardon for filthy skimmering):

1) Shards (servers) are distributed by zone (NA and Europe). If I purchase a single game key, is it zone locked? Or can I have characters on both sides of the Atlantic?
I believe you can select region.

2) Assuming my key is zone locked, is playing with a 200-300 ms ping doable, or should be outright avoided?
never had ping issues.
3) Aside from style, both factions are identical, right? WAR had some seriously bad balance issues due to both sides being somewhat different.
identical

4) Can the game be played in chunks? I usually don't have big blocks of free time. 20 mins here, 1 hour there. This means that playing with regular groups without previous scheduling is a big no no. However, can I still enjoy the game? Does the Rift mechanic take a lot of time to experience? What about the PvP? Can I head there much like I go to a FPS server and have fun fragging people and doing objectives?
PvP can be done in 30-60. Only thing that can't be done in small bites are dungeons.

5) Is an European GWJ contingent playing?
not that I know of all on Shatterbone.[b]
Thanks!

Hi Monarcha, I checked from the NA side. I normally play US servers but I was able to log into and create and play on an EU server. I think its safe to assume the reverse works.

When I did this check. I happened to log into a quest hub under heavy attack from a major event. 5 minutes later I've like doubled all the planarite and otherworldly sourcestones and the rarer blue stone. Hot

With the new in game feature for recording and uploading to youtube....

We begin bringing you the GWJ Expert Boss Series with Bonelord tonight, the 4th boss in expert Iron Tombs.

Watch your fellow guild mates in action...or watch us die horribly ....tonight success on 1st attempt despite some LoS issues in the fight.

Unfortunately for the free trial, I could only try an EU server, as when I tried NA it told me my key was invalid. I assume, though, that for the full price I can go NA because it does offer the choice in a very "up front" way.

Spy...you know I miss those BF2 days more than any other gaming experience I've had, especially my chopper rides (and bombing the crap out of certain folks as commander...heh). I think to enjoy RIFT, I will have to be with you all, as so far I've found RIFT to be really interesting, but not really compelling.

It's sort of typified by the big invasion I was in yesterday. I joined a public group, holes are opening all over the map, and my public raid goes in a definite direction and destroys one. And then...confusion. With no clear leader, and two hands used to navigate, there's no real third way to talk to people just to pick which direction we were going in next....

I did find a nice group to quest with for a while, and that of course was much, much better on many levels. I haven't gotten high enough level for my character class choices to get that interesting (Druid, Shaman, um...Justicar or something?), and crafting seems...like crafting.

I had to remind myself that although many aspects of the game mechanics seem like WoW part 2, I actually did play an MMO before that (Anarchy Online) and could remember back first playing WoW, when I thought, "hey, this is a much better, cleaned up version of AO, in terms of game mechanics." So in that sense, RIFT seems to have kept a great model of "don't fix what ain't broken" and the interest for me so far is in the feel that the world doesn't seem very static, when I'm trying to turn in a quest and realize that 10 holes in the fabric of reality just opened up between me and my reward, and maybe I should join up with some folks to clear that sh** out.

I am afraid, though, that I'll get to RIFT with GWJ about as often as I can TF2.... (8pm games are 3am for me...and I don't even do that when summer hits and i'm not teaching...).

Roo if you play you know you will always be welcome and all the guilds are very helpful. The game is quite solo able outside Rifts and Dungeons. If you decide to go full version, join gwjalliance chat and ask for an invite.

Filthy skimmer at the moment:
Heads up that there's another free weekend coming up, same set up with friend keys.

10am PDT April 8, 2011 through 10am PDT April 11, 2011.

Yoinked.

I wish Rift had a streaming patcher like WoW/GW.

Super nice. Already got mine.

Man, new GPU card waiting for me, now a new game. This weekend is shaping up just nice.

So, do I have an ally code to give to someone? If so, where do I find it?

This is pretty cool. Interesting all the things they are tracking.

And here's my 2nd boss video.

It's Plutonus, the last boss in DSM (T2 expert)

Does anyone know if accounts on the weekend pass will be able to accept guild invites? I suspect actually purchasing the game would be a lot more likely if I had people to ask stupid newbie questions in guild chat. I'm making my wife try it with me so I'll probably be on the Guardian side most of the weekend, but I'll run a Defiant character when she's not on.

The gwjalliance chat channel should be able to help you out with noob questions even if a trial account can't get a proper invite to the guild itself.

I concur. Just log in and /join GWJAlliance. Ask anything. One of the first things I did was disable 1-9.

Looks like maybe restrictions are in place. Trying to join results in a "Can not join channel" error message

Here's us, btw.

Ha, those stonfield ones are from Avrovin and Hydi skipping Freemarch that first day. Totally worth it.

Some River of Souls event info gleaned from the IRC chat yesterday.

http://rift.zam.com/story.html?story...

* Phase 2 of the event will begin tomorrow, April 9, at noon PDT. "I would recommend being there on time, this phase will take a different form than the current one," Krausnick said.
* Phase 2 will last until players beat it. Krausnick said it will likely last a matter of hours.
* Players of all levels will be able to participate in Phase 2.
* Players will receive messages tomorrow telling them where they should go for Phase 2. Cook said that for the bulk of the phase you can pick any zone and you won't be wrong.
* Much of the content you'll see in Phase 2 and Phase 3 is one-time only.
* When asked if Phase 3 will begin right after Phase 2, Cook said, "Phases without specified date/times will often chain after the preceding phase based on player actions/participation in that preceding phase."
* Here is Cook's description of Phase 3: "Once you complete it the raid instance River of Souls will become unlocked - but you'll have to go through Alsbeth's reanimated minions to do it!"
* The weapons cache will be "very available" tomorrow.
* No more items will be added to the world event vendor. However, consumables will likely be added in the future to help you burn through excess currency.
* Future events will use different currency, so you can sell or get rid of currency you don't spend.

Of course, I start work at noon. :hairpull:

Yes!

what about the horse... THE HORSE!!!

River of Souls World Event Extended

Hail Ascended!

We want to thank everyone for coming out today and taking part in the most massive event RIFT has ever seen. Our first run this morning on the European servers was a true test of the platform we have built and a learning experience for us all. With the hold on the final phases in the River of Souls event we have decided to extend Phase 1 an additional week.

This extension will allow everyone more opportunities to earn the event rewards, but we’re not stopping there! Here are a couple of improvements you can look forward to in the next day:

* Increasing the amount of Otherworldy Sourcestones you can earn from Death Rifts and Invasions
* More new rewards for purchase from the World Event merchant!

We’re working on rolling these changes out and will share the full details when they go live.

In the end, more people will have the opportunity to enjoy the event and all the rewards that come with it. We’re thrilled by how many of you turned up today and your encouragement is why we are committed to providing first-class World Events– anything less is unacceptable.

So enjoy the extra week and brand new rewards – We’ll see you next Saturday (04/16/11) at 12:00PM server time when we push Alsbeth back to her bastion once and for all!

Have a great weekend,
The RIFT Development Team

Thank you guys for helping me out.

After trying the game, it's definitely not something for me. Looks awesome, runs great, has tons of style.

It's a "it's me, not you" kind of situation You gents have fun!

Where is the damned spectral horse? My 50th level toon has a need for some ghost speed.

its the level 40 speed horse. epic isnt dropping yet.

Here's a simple question which I can't seem to get a simple answer for:

You've got your two (three later) souls. Let's say I have a Elementalist/Chloromancer. I had assumed that you'd get the root skills in both when my character reached that level, but apparently you only get them as you invest skill points in the branches of each soul? In that case, and bearing in mind that you need to invest heavily in one class to maximize your effectiveness, what is the point of having a third soul? I liked this whole class concept a lot more when I thought you could get all the skills from three classes and upgrade the ones you wanted.

That's the point, you have to mix and match to get what you want, or have different roles for different settings. Plenty of roles are maximized with a point break up of, for ex. 32/21/17. Also, a lot of people choose a 3rd soul for its zero point skills which can increase defense or whatever.

If you could get all the skills for all 3 souls there would be no reason to mix and match.
