Rage Catch-All

I'm not sure it needs it, all those guns looked pretty accurate from the hip, which is 'the id way'. I'd say to wait until quakecon to see what the game is really like, I don't feel we've see much representative footage yet, just a load of impressive looking, fast cut, clips.

I wasn't complaining, just trying to figure it out. Seemed like all the guns outside of the crossbow(?) had scopes, and no view outside of that scope.

After watching that, I'm wondering if this game has CoD style aim down sites or not. You see mostly hip fire, as in older id games, with occasional zoom.

Wonder if it's closer to Halo than CoD?

<----Moron... Thought I had replied in the Brink thread. Too many open tabs! Wingstick still looks awesome though.

I don't understand the scope implementation. Scopes on the heavy machine gun and pistol but not on the crossbow? And how does the pistol scope even work? He's using his left hand to put a monocle to his eye.

I don't want to start a gang war but the more I see of Rage the more I'm seeing Borderlands: Gray Edition. Wait and see, I suppose.

Some kind of smartgun link, perhaps. The monocle actually displays the view from a mini-camera on the pistol.

Just a guess.

For some reason I'm really excited about this game. I guess it's because I picture it as a cross between borderlands and far cry 2.

I am somewhat concerned that half of the different sceneries in the video looks like ye olde Doom 3 corridor snoozefests. And the other half don't look like "open world" to me at all.

Another trailer with a lot of gun play. To get HD, I had to get a foreign version that seems to have a sound sync issue later in the vid:

I haven't looked at a single thing about this game until I saw that trailer. Now I'm very intrigued, methinks this is going to be another expensive year!

I looks like a good really good shooter and I like the support bots. I just hope I can play as multiple classes with RPG-like upgrades and such. I have really been enjoying the recent trend of mixing shooters with rpgs.

I'm warming to this game. The latest trailers are looking promising.

I really like the sound design in that trailer (in addition to the obvious other stuff). This just went way up my list.

Looks like this one is supposed to show off all the guns. Quayola Quayons! Pinkies! (with respective sounds)

That actually looks pretty awesome -- good selection of weapons, NPC dialogue, quests(?). Anyone know: Is this going to be RPG lite or is it more linear?

That trailer is pretty amazing.

Pretty sure that you go around and take missions from people in towns; guns might have an upgrade system too, but don't quote me on that.

There's an item/upgrade system for your equipment, but not your character.

And upgrades for your car.

I watched the last two trailers posted and they end the scenes with cliffhangers. What a tease.

I'm generally not one to change my view of a game because of a youtube clip, but even though I was not all that impressed by the combat they showed at the start of it, by the end I was pretty pumped. It is strange though how quickly we become accustomed to something. After seeing what was done in LA Noire the facial animations in this looked comical.

Exactly what I was saying earlier. Based on Carmack's comments, it looks like Rage 2 will lead on the PC and be ported to consoles. The hardcore "shift" I was talking about...and lamenting, since I love my Xbox.

And you'll be getting the best game your xbox can handle.

I seem to recall that being one of the massive pluses for idTech5, that you can create whatever content you like, to whatever detail you like, and the central cooking server knows the performance characteristics of each platform and will make sure it's squeezing out 60fps at the best detail level it can handle, plus constraints like disc size, etc. Having that tech means content development is much easier, as the artists can just go and make whatever they want without having to worry about the various memory or performance budgets as much. I'm sure the details are in a Quakecon speech.

There's going to be a limit, but it sounds like a great tool for making game development easier, which should mean better games (published by Bethesda).

I don't see a problem with leading on the most powerful and flexible platform and porting down to what the lower end systems can handle. As long as the consoles play fine, why would you not want people with systems that can handle better stuff to have that?

Now bad ports are another topic, but just because PC leads (or the alternate console to what you own) doesn't mean you're not going to be able to still have a good experience.

Yeah, I know. I am geeked up about it. I still want new hardware and, according to Carmack, they have a lot more optimization opportunity on the Xbox then on the PC, because they can program, "on the metal." GPU manufacturers do not allow that. A new Xbox means more pixels, more art, more animations, etc. I can't change my opinion. I want it all.

Anyway...I just finished the interview and it was great. I think I just became a John Carmack fan. The guy seems smart as a whip and damn talented too.

Nah, he's obviously a hack

Carmack is the friggin' man. The only other guy in the industry who reminds me of him is Eskil Steenberg.

That's not good. It's getting deeper into the thick of things. Now it's after Gears and closer to BF3.

Oh well.

I don't know... usually I'm excited to see what magic id will pull off next but, I'm just not feeling it with this title. It might be the setting - I'm getting sort of tired of the post apoc/industrial backdrop. Reminds me too much of the 80's & 90's action flicks where every one seemed to have part of it shot in some old run down industrial steel mill.

There's no doubt it's a must buy for me but I'm hoping I find more enthusiasm with the actual game than I am getting from the E3 videos.
