Brink Catch-All

Very rarely does a shooter have female characters and it's not really an issue (although that doesn't mean you can't aim to change/improve the situation). I can appreciate that there may be hitbox issues trying to make two genders with different body proportions have the same body shape for the gameplay. On the other you could say find a way to make it work. Going with the TF2 comparison again, there have been 3rd party female models to maintain the style and silhouettes on that game.

I can understand memory limitations with consoles, but it would be nice to see it on PC, even if it was a mod that got official blessing.

The big thing for me is that the dress-up angle has no appeal to me for big sweaty looking guys. If there's going to be dress-up, then I need cute girls. (Yes. I am very strange.) If it was just a set of pre-generated characters (like TF2, L4Ds, etc.) it wouldn't bother me—but they're emphasizing "You can unlock things and customize your character!" rather a lot here.

Right, but that means it would be a TON more work to add in three more models. Though I admit, I'd find it hilarious to take the gigantic female bruiser character and give her a pretty pink dress.

I'd rather pull a Saints Row 2 and don it on a beefy male character. He just likes to feel pretty.

...are we sure you can't?

Every video I see regarding this game makes makes me "hhnnnnnnggg" harder every time.

You should probably see a doctor about that.

Is "hhnnnnnnggg" good or bad?

I think its a sensation caused by blood flowing from the brain to the second, less reliable brain.

I always thought that was expressed with a guttural "Hoowuuuuh!"

Oh. I'm from the civilized world, where we say, "this news has invigorated my genitals."

Just saw this in Kotaku's things to buy in the spring quarter article. Sounds interesting. Team-based play with xp for objectives, encouraging people to actually work as a team, not just kill for their own glory.

And the PC version is Steamworks! So can buy it from Amazon or Steam, whoever is cheaper, and have it on Steam anyway. Joining matches with friends with a simple click on friend lists, sounds great.

ARRGH! I waited too long, Brink has been 49.99 USD for pre-order here for ages, I finally decide to get it, and now it's up to 89.99. ARRRGH! ARRRGH! Why do publishers keep doing this?

Edit: Direct2Drive also isn't an option, it's country locked. Did I mention ARRRGH?!

What? It's $90? Why is it $90? Is Blizzard making it now? Or is that the Australian Violence Tax?

Australian Fun Tax.

I'm in.. PC here.. hopefully that a community starts around this because I LOVED Wolf:ET, and felt that Quake Wars had such a rocky start that it never fully recovered... as well as the Stroggs just being too "ehh" for people to play but that it was a really good game.

Steam integration has to help. And dedicated servers. I mean we have 2 for TF2 and 2 for L4D2. Surely we can get enough people for one of this to try.

Most big AAA games on Steam are around $90US in Australia now. Anything from EA, Activision, 2K and lately Bethesda. Games have always been that expensive here at retail, and Steam was a revelation for a while... but now all the big publishers are hiking up their Australian prices on Steam, either because the retailers here are pressuring them into it, or just because they can. Between that and the stupid lack of a proper adult game rating category here, I'm starting to get really annoyed at my country...

I've ordered Brink on Ozgameshop anyway, I've never used them before, but they're cheap and I refuse to pay $90!

Guess it costs a lot to ship the bits and bytes that far.

This looks really fun from what I've seen, but I'm not usually big on MP only shooters. I have it pre-ordered for 360, but I may cancel it and wait for reviews.

Maybe I'm jumping the gun a bit, but I've put together a GWJ Brink group on Steam.

Right now it is public, I'll set it private after a bit.

Why thank you!

Anyone know how many players it supports? I did a little searching, but couldn't find anything.

In one of the interview videos the lead producer said that they've found 8 v. 8 to be the ideal balance in Enemy Territory so they've built Brink around that number. I can look up the video later.

I can deal with 8 vs. 8, though I have been getting spoiled by Homefront's 32 player matches.

Its even smaller than the avg TF2 servers.

Cant wait to hear all the wailing and nashing of teeth over the self-rez ability. We could always copy over the same arguments from the CoD threads to save time

This looks like a lot of fun. I love the movement.

Looks like it's coming out a week early:

Bethesda Softworks, a ZeniMax Media company, today announced that its acclaimed first-person shooter, Brink, will be available one week EARLIER than originally scheduled. Brink will now first be available for purchase in North America on May 10th instead of May 17th, and in Europe on May 13th instead of May 20th.

“Production wrapped on Brink earlier than we planned and we didn’t see any reason to keep gamers from getting their hands on this highly anticipated game as soon as it was ready,” said Pete Hines, VP of PR and Marketing for Bethesda Softworks. “It’s apparent from the tremendous reaction so far that people are eager to jump online and play, and if we can make that happen earlier – we’re going to.”

OMG rushjob!

Smart move IMO, considering L.A. Noire and The Witcher 2 were also releasing on May 17. Looks like there's much less competition during the week of May 10, as in no AAA releases.

Perfect. Much better timing for me, at least.

I guess my comment didn't get saved. I basically said what you said. Even though I'm looking forward to picking them all up, I wasn't exactly cheery that three of my most wanted in 2011 would've been on the same day.
