Max Payne 3 Catch All

What the heck is up with this game. Are they developing it in bullet time or something.

Welcome to the world of "When it's done." I'm not sure they should have announced it so early, but I have faith that Rockstar will deliver the goods when it's done baking.

To be honest, if a company like Rockstar/2K delays it I'd say it's a good sign. The publisher would be only too happy to kick something out the door if they felt it would sell, so hopefully it's getting the time it needs to be good rather than being left on a shelf (like Alpha Protocol, for example).

Rockstar delays games because of an endemic lack of anything approaching decent project management.

Perhaps, but people seem to be pissed that it's delayed, which would signal that they would prefer it to be released on the original date whether it's good or not. I don't think anyone involved in the game wants it to be delayed, but the fact that they are shows they want to put out a good game, whether the end result is good or not is up in the air.

Clearly you are crazy Scratched! They just want to rub our noses in it (it being the game) and then take it away. Every software company is full of and run by sadists who get a perverse entertainment from causing pain and suffering in their (potential) customers.

And yet i love you.... What does that say about you, Aszy?

I've been replaying the second game. Man, it holds up well.

I have a feeling they've begun to struggle with taking the brand too far from its core and are now re-doing some things to maintain the appeal. It's been a little too quiet.

I also have a feeling that I'm going to hate the writing, no matter what they do.

Indeed. I'm already hating it pre-emptively!

We have a special kind of love.

Fixed for AmazingZoidberg.

I hope this is the only thread for this game, I didn't see any others in the search I did.

Anywho, here's some scans from EDGE magazine about the game. Sounds like it's shaping up nicely.

There's a trailer out:

I have to say that I'm not too high on the idea of this game. I think that story wise the series was done and Max wasn't the kind of character to take private security jobs for money, it feels contrived. It is nice that they got the original voice actor for Max, but I really just wish they left the whole thing alone. Want to make a game like Max Payne? Just make it, create a new IP then you avoid all the complaints about not being in NY during the night and so on.

My biggest wish is rapidly becoming to create something hugely successful and then never make a follow up just to spite all these damn money men.

Not a fan of the trailer. Rockstar always uses contrived trailers that tell nothing about the story and show nothing about the gameplay. I end up being intrigued because the first two games are awesome and not because of this trailer. I have a feeling that this game is going to lean a little heavier on the open world side of things.

Man, I thought the trailer was great, but I'm basically the biggest Max Payne fanboy there is.

I liked it a lot! When the music started, I didn't realize it still had such an effect on me. To me Max Payne is about the noir story, the eternally down on his luck anti-hero with a gravelly narration, the slomo gunplay. Trenchcoat and NY nights don't even get a listing.

Regarding Max's new look - it's like we're getting the Die Hard sequel that should've been, with an aged Bruce Willis sporting (a beer gut and) a wicked beard. Too bad Kane & Lynch already did a bit of this, but still a great, fresh look.

Do you guys really think Max is a good character to go back to? I think he had a story and now that's done. To me it makes no sense to keep putting him in stories where he kills half a city. And yes I'm also a huge MP fan, played those games a stupid amount of times and I would rather have a new IP. To me it's a story that had an end and that's great.

Totally agree. I loved the trailer soundtrack, and was instantly hooked by that cello motif. It's the first game trailer music I've heard in ages that I just thought was hands-down awesome.

He's better than most video game characters in my humble opinion. I know more about Max Payne as a character than I do about Marlowe from BFBC, whoever it is you're playing this time in COD:MW, or Master chief in Halo.

I'm just pissed that Mona is apparently dead or gone. I worked my ass off to keep her alive.

Me too, man. Me too.

Not a fan. Put me in the "just leave the franchise alone" camp. I don't know If i can get past the new look

They should have made it a strategy game.

Oh snap!

Do want!

Edit: Hearing that music makes me want to play Max Payne 2 again. Sadly, I only have that on PS2. Time to head to Steam and see if I can persuade my wife to allow me to buy it there...

I recently re-played it on the PC. It's stood up amazingly well.

Some comments from Rockstar on Twitter:

A few #MaxPayne3 facts for those who are asking: 1) Yes, that is the voice of James McCaffery, original voice actor from Max Payne 1 and 2…

2) Max Payne 3 is running on a new iteration of Rockstar’s RAGE engine

3) Today’s Max Payne 3 trailer is all in-game footage

4) Like GTAIV and Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne 3 uses the Natural Motion character behavior system for lifelike weight and movement

5) No, Max Payne 3 is not an open world game – we’re staying true to Max’s roots in atmosphere, story and gameplay design

6) Today’s Max Payne 3 trailer shows a small part of Max’s journey – much more info soon

Silly Max, you're supposed to shave that stupid beard off, not your hair.

Bleuch. Not enthused by that trailer at all - apart from the music, which is probably just the music from 2 pasted clumsily on the front and back of the trailer so that people know what game this is.

Going to assume it's just a bad teaser trailer until more info is revealed though.

And at least it's not an FPS.

Also isn't this the first RAGE engine game on PC since GTA4? Hopefully they've got it running at an acceptable level this time.
