Aw.

Penne arrabbiata with mozzarella ciliegine balls.

Wouldn't that be something for after dinner? Say... bedtime?

FTFY

Can't do it often because hot mozzarella tends to leave burns.

I made this cake of a cake for my friends 30th birthday party last night (along with honeyjoys and carbon neutral chocolate crackles)

After some planning, I built this shell (no finishing work or floors yet) over lunch yesterday by our sea/airport on the family Minecraft server. I expect an entire city to sprout up soon, since this seems to have inspired my and my brother's families to start a building spree.

Cool thread, just discovered it!

ruhk, what was the novel you reently read? I've been slowly reading a few HPL stories over the last couple of years.

I must ask what these are, I'm afraid to Google it.

Doesn't that mean they're not burnt? As opposed to like 'Carbon heavy'. Perhaps 'Carbon Light' is undercooked?

Perhaps there are no carbon ions in the chocolate?

Maybe the crackles in the chocolate are small chips of graphite or coal, which are measured precisely to contain the same amount of carbon that is generated by the manufacturing process. That way you can consume the same amount of carbon that is released into the air.

Chocolate crackles are a delicious mix of rice bubbles/rice krispies cereal, cocoa, powdered sugar, desiccated coconut and copha. My friend named them carbon neutral after I added popping candy to the mix (which is made by giving candy the loving with pressurised carbon dioxide). They were a total mouth explosion

Maybe it's Swiss chocolate.

I think you should tell us more about "family minecraft server"

It's taken 6 weeks, but it's finally done. My first bronze:

IMAGE(http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/8831/img20110330105650.jpg)

Coming up:

- a 18" long elephant which has been cast but needs a ton of clean up, welding and more clean up.

- a 20" figure. The wax has been cast, but still needs to be gated, vented and shelled before casting.

I should have both pieces done by the end of May.

Yes, bronze making is a very laborious process!

Very cool, nice job.

I have a gaming family (extended even), and we all like Minecraft. I don't want my or my brother's kids to have to deal with Fedora and Floomi :D, so I set up my own server. It's running on an Intel E8400 with 8GB RAM. It uses almost exactly the same plugins that the GWJ server does, including IRC.

The sketching thread has inspired/guilt-tripped me back into drawing again. Figured It makes more sense to post the results here rather than in the other thread, which is more about the advice side of things.

Turned out not too bad I think. Eyes are a bit off-kilter.

Apologies for the ugly line through the middle, had to scan it in two halves and didn't want to make too many edits in photoshop, other than to darken it a bit to compensate for the crappy scanner.

Damn, you have talent. I love the texture of her hair. She reminds me of Claudia Black for some reason. It might be the pigtails.

Nice job, stevenmack.

It sure is a pain in the bum to draw though - the hair takes about three times the time it takes to draw the rest of the picture. I need to start dawing more blondes. Or bald chicks

Funnily enough, I *did* actually start this off based on an image of one C. Black from Stargate...but it continued to look less and less like her as I went along so I wasn't going to say anything and see if anyone made the connection. Mission sort of acomplished

Opals are fun. First they look like this:
IMAGE(http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/205230_1752478765896_1056697761_2680787_7276823_n.jpg)

and then after grinding away the crap they look like this:
IMAGE(http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/217162_1764748912642_1056697761_2697938_5419868_n.jpg)

Shiny!

I used to collect rough gems back when I hiked in NC, Tennessee, and Virginia. Never had any cut and polished, but I've heard that opals can be very tricky to work with. Varying water content can make some prone to craze during and after grinding/polishing. Way to go on those, Yellek!

Spring is here and it's time to collect trees. So, I made some grow boxes out of milk crates. The open sides and bottom let a lot of air in and the roots grow like mad. But they are shallow, so it's easy to transfer to a pot after they have developed the fine roots.

Have to be careful with them. Even though I used the shortest staples, they do leave sharp ends that stick through the plastic on the milk crates.

Alright, I need to finally post this here. I finished building my subwoofer and amp box a little while ago.

In progess (posted before around here):

Finally in the living room:

Close up of the amp mounted to the box, which faces towards the wall now:
IMAGE(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_iaEvTanJNS4/TZ0pzNttWeI/AAAAAAAACFA/ZaO0ZpuA9-E/s640/_MG_1176.JPG)

The side that faces out with the binding post:
IMAGE(https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_iaEvTanJNS4/TZ0pzFXHcRI/AAAAAAAACFI/SfG8gWtn-XI/s640/_MG_1177.JPG)

If I were to redo it, I'd make the side in that last picture entirely blank, and have everytihng come out the same face.

One other note, I have a PS3 and Onkyo receiver just off camera all running 5.1.

Well, that makes my chopped up milk crates look like...chopped up milk crates.

Nice job, Mr. T-Head. You really do beautiful work.

Thanks, although the sub's finish needs work under any closer inspection. I dinged it during installation and didn't intend to have that face exposed originally so didn't sand out / put on a final coat of paint like the other faces. I may get bothered by it and do some touch up in the not too distant future.
I just can't wait to replace that horrible pulpwood tv stand with an entertainment center with shelving enough for all my game systems (every Nintendo console, PS2, Xbox, PS3) the stereo equipment and dvd storage on the side. It's under redesign now that I have a kid on the way and I never got past cutting out the panels. It's going to require additional doors for the sides and a way to lock it all up.

I need to become more handy with tools. Your work is very well done. Can I please borrow your hands for a while?

My blanket answer to anyone who asks for the forseeable future: Absolutely not.
