Warhammer 40K: Space Marine

Only if in the course of the game you die heroically and your geneseed is undamaged and your shattered remains can be loaded into the living tomb that is the Dreadnaught.

Check please.

Please let there be army painter and a team based multiplayer mode of Chaos vs SM!

Please, please, please, please!

I paint 40K but have only played a little, little bit. I actually like the idea of it, and the world they've created, more than the idea of playing it. It's a hugely confusing set of rules that creates a very high barrier to entry.

That said, I love my little Black Templars and I am really, really looking forward to putting my gloved fist through the skulls of a lot of enemies of the Emperor.

My wife and I are the same way. We have about 4000 points (half eldar/half tau) painted, and have only played a couple of times. We love the universe/game - but don't really know how to play and are too intimidated to go to our local gaming store to try and learn with the hobbyists.

While its been a few years (2nd edition), those hobbyists at TableTop were pretty nice people. I'd recommend swinging by and chatting with Phil.

If GW hadn't written my Genestealer Cult out of the game when they went to 3rd edition, I'd probably still be playing there. Not a good feeling to have labored to collect and kitbash and paint up an army, only to have it made unplayable.

So is this console only or will PC gamers be able to join the party?

Skimmer!

Not anymore! It's coming to PCs. Please don't eat my system alive, Relic's next game.

A filthy one at that.

Thanks.

Subscribing. I am very excited to see how this game turns out.

Don't feel bad, that's what GW does, change the rules so you have to buy more overpriced plastic stuff. 4th Edition killed my Chaos Iron Warriors, and my love for 40k Table Top.

Prozac has the best answers.

I said several pages ago that I fervently hope that happens. A climactic battle ending in self-sacrifice and a beautiful cutscene. Fade to black. Then after a moment's pause you are woken up inside a Dreadnaught for the even more climatic actual final battle.

That would rock, but there are very few developers who would have the balls to go that route.

I have pots of GW paint that are over 18 years old that are still the right consistency.

I generally agree. I've got a small army sitting in boxes waiting for me to get out the paints. By the time I do, they'll all have dried out.

Here's a tip for dried up Acrylic paint: pour VERY warm water in the pot, close it and let it sit overnight

Next day, use the handle of a spoon or fork to mix and voilà, resurrected paint. I could save 80% of my paint I had not touched in years doing this

New developer diary is up.

Looking good. I love the body slam the ork gives the marine.

Well it is set on a forge world . . .

Anyone know who the writers are? If Dan Abnett were the lead I'd buy this in a second.

If Dan Abnett was the lead, then the brightest point in the story would make the end of Halo: Reach look happy and triumphant. So yeah, it would be a perfect match for a WH40K game story!

The latest Xbox mag has an small 2 page article about this game. One thing that bothered me was they did away with vehicles and progression. There still is growth it is just more direct than skill trees and unlockable amor. Also says it is a controlled campaign thats deliberately designed to pull you from on encounter or set piece to the next.

So I was a little sad cause I was hoping for a diablo like game within 40k. I'll still be getting it though cause it looks really nice.

Saw this tweet from Onlive a few minutes ago:

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. Pre-order NOW! Get Darksiders, $5 off and a FREE OGS or GAME when you act now! www.onlive.com/go/spacemarine

Seems a $45 preorder of Space Marine will net you:

-Darksiders (for Onlive)
-Free Onlive Console/Controller OR Another Free Game Pass (Free game must be redeemed by 5/31/11)

They've got a bunch of similar preorder deals going now, but this one interests me the most. Need to read some previews first, though! I've never played proper tabletop Warhammer, just DOW2, so this isn't an instant sell for me. But Relic haven't let me down yet!

More pre-order details up at IGN, and information on the collector's edition.

I expect we are going to get a ton of info at E3.

The time for the cleansing of the xenos filth is almost at hand.

We better, the game comes out in August.

Now that I've finally seen (more) gameplay, I'm interested. The combat does look fun, which is always a great foundation, but will being on the same dusty planet for hours get old? I have to worry that the other parts (progression, diversity, story, modes) won't be able to support the combat over many hours. Relic's capable of greatness; I really hope this is their first successful entry into the A/A genre.

edit: Oooh greeeaat, retailer specific pre-order bonuses. Love those.

Absolutely loathe them

I think they may be going for a summer blockbuster feel.

Some details about the multiplayer versus have been posted on the Space Mariene Steam page.

Looks like it will Marines vs Chaos and there will be three classes (or possibly more): Tactical, Devastator, and Assault that can all be customized.

The developers have also said that there is versus and co-op multiplayer. Given the popularity of The Last Stand in Dawn of War 2, I am guessing there will be a similar mode in Space Marine.

The only bad news is that it looks like the game has been pushed to sometime in September.

I suspected as much when I saw the Iron Warriors skin up there. I can't imagine anyone who knows anything about the game would go through single player dressed like that. "For the Emperor" indeed. (Of course that does work for Alpha Legion. But . . . )

Man, I am tempted to go to GS to preorder, just for the Space Wolves skin.

Oh god. Now so am I.

USD$89 for the Steam preorder in Australia? They can stick that where the sun don't shine.

Yep, really annoying especially since some prefer to shop via a particular shop/site.
