Homefront - Catch all

Thanks Tkyl. I missed that setting. I'll give it a try.

I wonder if the helicopter has the same bug as the parrot does sometimes where the bumpers on the 360 do not work to make it ascend/descend.

There's also a bug where you can buy a drone that just sits there and is not controllable. Always makes me angry for wasting my points. Grrr. You can even try to X out and back in, and it just sits there.

Glad I haven't run into that one. I friggin' love the attack chopper drone. Granted I only use it on the maps that don't allow vehicles, but still..

It makes me say dirty words. Loudly.

I've had both things happen multiple times.

Mannish, does it only happen when you deploy the drone while prone?

Possible? I'll have to pay more attention.

I'm generally trying to hide so I'm in a corner, a bush, dumpster, etc for my out of body experience.

If that turns out to be the case, let me know. I thought that bug had been fixed. And when it does happen, you should be able to hit X to escape the drone, hit b to stand up/crouch and then the dpad to re-enter your drone. You should be able to ascend/descend at that point.

Is it the same for the flying and ground drones? On the parrot, I can still at least move the drone, but on the ground drones I had no control at all. So it behaves a bit differently.

I'll try to always go prone to see if your work around gets me control back.

Thanks!

I can confirm that for myself (360 version as well), I've only seen the bug (had it happen yesterday) when I'm prone. I've only seen it on the parrot, but that's the primary drone I was using. I've had it happen several times since release. I've never been able to break it loose except by destruction of the drone. I don't recall if I attempted to stand up in each case, but I was flipping through all the buttons I could.

I played with public chat on XBL tonight.

I think this game seems to have gotten some sales from the bottom of the CoD barrel in reprehensible humans. Really turns me off the game.

Over the weekend I actually braved the public chat to find some teamwork and communication going on. Totally opposite tonight. Played two really poor rounds with unbalanced teams and quit.

That's sad. I was considering this game when it dropped in price. The MP is steadily getting praise, so I figured I'd try it. Last night in BFBC2 I was on a team where on Rush our crates were getting destroyed right as they appeared. Turns out someone on my own team was destroying them by weakening buildings and shooting missiles at them. So even the best games get some real winners. I was hoping Homefront, though, would be ignored by the COD crowd.

Any shooter will attract idiots, it is just in higher numbers with COD due to popularity. I ended up sending my copy back to gamefly, the multiplayer just didn't click with me. I have enough of a backlog to keep me occupied.

It's worth trying. I just had a bad server with people taunting the other team post round, yelling at their teammates during rounds, racist stuff, etc.

Obirano, I agree, CoD's one of the worst due to it's popularity. I think the difference with BFBC2 is you're segregated into small squads, so you don't hear as many people. It doesn't feed on itself with the larger group, and there's no cross team talk post round.

PC with it's server wide chat seems worse than the console version, but that's probably because of the setup. I'm sure there's about the same percentage of jerks playing.

We have run into the occasional speed hacker on the PC but it is easy enough to change servers since a lot are full and most of them run fantastic.

Overall though, the PC end has been pretty mature.

Good to hear.

Rereading my post, that last paragraph was talking about the difference in BFBC2 on PC vs console, not this game.

On the PC it still happens when prone. Not all the time but enough to be annoying. I thought it was due ot the terrain i was on.

Lol, welcome to the internet.

Certain games are worse than others in this regard.

Of course. Popularity = higher asshat to normal person ratio.

Counter Strike and Battlefield 2 were just as bad back in their golden day.

Agreed, however, there are things you can do to keep it contained and less visible to the average player (See BFBC2 on console).

So beat Chapter Two tonight.

Homefront is a better Call of Duty than Treyarch ever made, that's for sure. Too bad the level design is pretty archaic. I keep hitting invisible walls, not to mention most games allow me to walk through clothes hanging from a line rather than having to duck.

It's odd. So much of the game feels polished, and it looks gorgeous, but these invisible walls give it a real budget title feel.

EDIT: Ah Hell, looks like it's tag choosing time. I probably won't be able to even see the inebitable thread until I'm done work tomorrow.

You must use a hell of a lot of starch, sir. I can walk through a clothesline pretty easily. Unless it's like, a Macho Man one.

And yeah, your thread is up. Best to let it simmer for a bit. Make 'em wait. Be fashionably late.

I actually made that joke to a friend of mine at work, that the person must have washed the clothes in pure starch.

It's a shame because it feels like the gameplay is actually solid, just everything else is a mess. I guarantee you if this game released for $30 reviews would say "It's short and some of the tech is out-dated, but for that price it's an absolute blast and you can't go wrong".

One million sold, 2.4m shipped apparently. Not bad for a week.

Actually that's damn good considering.

Hrm. I need to learn to check more than just the handful of sites I read, because I was under the impression this game had trouble selling.

Eh, I knew it did okay even before reading the Joystiq post that I probably should have linked before.

Last I saw I was ranked 26,000th or so on XBL. My roommate, who played 3 matches (poorly), is ranked 510,000th or so. Take into account that this is one of three platforms, and only the people that play online, and the numbers work out.

Blind_Evil wrote:

Yeah but how many of those were returned because of the server issues?

Edit: Don't get me wrong I like this game, the multiplayer is fun, and the level design is really good. If I can't play with even one other friend in a party, or I have to reboot my 360 every so often to connect; then I can see were a lot of people will say "Screw it, I'm not waiting for them to fix it". I however will be waiting for it to be fixed.

Just beat it, and I was glad Chapter 6 wasn't the finale like I expected (checked Achievements beforehand).

I feel like the setting is good and there could have been a good story somewhere here, but it feels as if the events were rushed. Like the developers thought "Ok, gotta go go go to the next point, and the next, and the next!" Hell, I only got 38/61 collectibles because I felt I wasn't allowed to fully explore like I wanted.

I did like the finale chapter, though. In fact, I really do feel that this game makes a better Modern Warfare 2 than the actual Modern Warfare 2 had. It would be nice if Kaos Studios could collaborate with Infini-, er, Respawn Studios.

If there is a sequel I hope they expand from this. It's a good setting, and it felt like they wanted to make a more personal story instead of big and epic, but by the end I was like "wait, we were doing what now? Getting fuel to the military? Since when? That was the master plan?"

And now the hackers are showing up. I was tagging targets with the drone and guys were zipping around the map at ridiculous speeds. This was on a supposed VAC secured steam server. Hopefully they can get this under control soon.

The more multi I play of this game the more I am enjoying it. It's a shame there aren't more people around here playing.
