Why Was I Banned?

Man. This site is why I don't own an xbox, and why my wife would never agree to buying one even if I wanted one. I've seen these people at Gamestop, and they always seem to be hanging out in the Xbox section.

I know there are cretins on any online service, but XBLA seems to be some kind of honey-trap for them.

I commend the mods for not being either suicidal or raging alcoholics.

There's generally enough GWJ people playing a particular game that you never have to be in chat with these people.

Yes, there are some horrible humans on 360, but there are a lot in real life as well. It's just knowing where you can and can't hang out if you want to avoid the crap that's key.

On the other hand, they got to learn the words to Desperado.

Yeah, but not the real words.

I don't understand why people are being banned on that site for having blue or green avatars, could someone explain it please?

As I understand it, you can not have those skin colors without hacks.

Exactly.

MICROSOFT DOESN'T CARE ABOUT GREEN PEOPLE!

Yeah, that really has to be the worst job ever.

Definitely not the worst job ever. I know a girl who used to work for Energizer, and her job was to surf as many pornographic sites as possible with the sole purpose of ensuring that nobody was using the brand or trademarks (ie, the bunny) inappropriately.

Sure, it sounds like that would be a good job, but 8 hours a day, 5 days a week looking at some of the most depraved, disgusting stuff on the internet takes its toll. She lasted 3 months in that job.

I had a coworker whose wife was an FBI agent working child porn cases. It involved searching online for godawfully depraved material, plus having to hang out in pedophile chat rooms and try to entice people to do something stupid enough to get themselves arrested. She left the FBI before long, just couldn't take it anymore. That remains my "worst job ever" idea and I don't know that I could top it; sure, you're trying to improve the world bit by bit, but you'd have to feel you were making such a small difference, if any.

Damn. There are very few jobs that I wouldn't do for the right amount of money, but that's one of them. That would wreck me.

On the other hand, some of us take a real joy in explaining to people how wrong they are.

I think Serengeti is talking about the pedophiles, not XBL morons (though those aren't necessarily exclusive sets).

Something that hit me about all this, is how much support this has to be, for a profile system and e-peen score. It shows to me how important it all is to both microsoft and gamers.

Hahaha I could never have conceived of a job like that.

Couldn't get past her opening salvo. That made me despair.

Apply for a job with pneuman's company, or with Energizer?

It goes back to the real culprit. Call of Duty attracts asshats like no other device since WebTV.

And it is like Raider fans. Not all Raider fans are violent thugs. But man do violent thugs love the Raiders.

Couldn't get past the improper use of "You're" in the opening text. You're making me glad I stopped there.

Probably Xbox 360 owners...

I don't want to imagine what spurred someone to create that position.

Because all Xbox 360 owners act like trash talking little kids? How hard do you think it would be for me to find a video of a child talking trash on Counter Strike or any other popular PC game for that matter?

I am reminded of when Master Shake responded to Happy Time Harry. Quoth: "I think I need to go pray."

If you're looking for it, it isn't hard. But, on the PC because there is a lot more autonomy due to server admins and things we're able to bypass all of the crap that comes with the Xbox 360 altogether.

Please don't go there and turn this into a fanboy war. Jayhawker owns a 360 and plays on it constantly. He doesn't speak as a PS3 fanboy or PC fanboy. He speaks as someone who is tired of hearing things like this. I'm in the same camp. If I was going to hazard a guess as to where the worst offenders were I would say 360 and probably playing COD or Halo. As someone who games on the 360 it's what I see.

Sometimes the filters do catch stuff that is pretty mundane. I think it was here that I complained that I couldn't name my Assault Rifle class in Black Ops "Assault". That's in house to Activision, but you can find that stuff elsewhere too.

Now that's the job that I pity - trying to imagine every spelling, misspelling, and alternate version of every offensive word you can think of.

It'd be better to crowdsource that kind of database from people like GWJ - good intentioned people with just a touch of the dark side

Seriously, if you could do the policy enforcement job from home part time, I'd be all over that.

I few months ago we found out VALVE won't let you use the word "support" in your steam name.

It has nothing to do with Call of Duty as a game and everything to do with the popularity of Call of Duty.

World of Warcraft has 10 million plus subscribers and there's a ton of assholes there too. Battlefield 2 and Counter Strike on the PC were the same way back in their golden days.

Both of these statements are true.

Playing COD doesn't make you an asshat.
If you're an asshat the chances are high you play COD.

It's correlation, not causation. It's why I don't find COD enjoyable as a MP game. People spawn camp and basically do everything possible to win. Remember the ninja wizards who were stabbing people from across the map? Because this attitude (win at all costs, because winning is more important) pervades COD, I don't enjoy it.

Ok, maybe I overreacted but I think the 360 gets unfairly catagorised as being 'douchebag central' when realistically anti-social behaviour is a problem that exists for all online gaming platforms
