*Release* Rift Crafting Discussion

Are you good with the tools? Want to make some cash? Armor, weapons, jewelry, runes, and dont forget BAGS! All things for you crafty buggers should be here in this thread. Remember shop Smart, shop S-Mart.

I shall be an outfitter / butcher / runecrafter on my rogue, {roguename}.

I shall be a weaponsmith / miner / forager on my cleric, {clericname}.

I shall be an armorer / miner / artificer on my warrior {tankname}.

How are the stats of crafted items? Are they comparable to drops? Do burn through the low and middle tiers just to get to the high level stuff? I'm wondering if I should craft to make better weps/armor for myself?

My mage is going Outfiter, Butcher, Runcrafter
Cleric is Miner, Forager, Artificer

The stats, at least < level 30 are actually quite good. The stats are mid range of the range you are crafting for. So, if the crafting range, for example, is level 20 to level 30, then the items are going to be comparable to level 25 questing rewards. So at level 20 they will be awesome and at level 29 you'll be getting better stuff from quests.

The problem with crafting is that you can actually outcraft your level. Crafting dailies that are needed for special crafting currency are based on your crafting skill level. Not your character level. So, if you craft ahead of your character level, you'll soon have dailies into the areas of the world you can't reach due to your character level.

What about end game gear? Will there be craftables that compare to the gear you get from raids?

On Kelset,warrior: Weaponsmith/Miner/Forager

I know my wife, who should be requesting permissions to join the forum in a few minutes, will be going Armorsmith/Butcher/?. She is unsure of what the third will be, as the release will be her first chance of playing other than watching me on the Beta.

Yes, but the recipes are not fully in place yet. On alpha there were just a couple of 'sample' recipes in outiftter to craft a raid comparable helm and chest.

The same recipes were shown on the beta merchants.

I'm going armorsmith / butcher / miner on Cicero.

I've had several items just "disappear" during crafting... the mats get used up, but it never deposits the crafted item in my bags. My skills aren't terribly high, yet, so it's only been a few misc pieces of gear and a rune, but this could get costly at higher levels. I've /bugged it, but I just wanted to know if any of you have had this happen, to see how common this is.

Never noticed it happening, but that doesn't mean it hasn't. My goal for crafting at this stage is to get mats to break down and precious, precious skill points.

I'm pretty high up in Butchering, Outfitting and Runecrafting but my warrior's skills are woefully behind. Maybe now that the new area is cleared out I can go on a mining run...

I haven't had that issue. Working my way up the rune crafting and outfitting path. Wool bags here I come.

Sometimes you can fail on an item. It's not a bug. It's common and expected behavior. Especially if trying to use the item augments during crafting. There is a difficulty indicator over where you add the augment that gives you your probability for success with that combine.

Not a bug.

I think of it as a slot machine. If you win, jackpot. If you lose, the house keeps the mats.

Has anybody figured out yet what "rare" crafting materials (e.g. bronze) do?

Hmm, that's probably something they should make more apparent. Not complaining, mind you, but if I can overlook it than I doubt most players will pick up on it.

I've lost enhancement crystals to this, but never actual mats (I don't think). Just the crystal itself vanished when I pressed "craft". But the base mats remained where they were.

Lost the crystals, never the mats. Its a factor of skill level. Never lost a skill 50 'slight' crystal after my skill was above 50.

So, is lack of Cotton Bags an oversight on their part (e.g. a bug)?

a money sink since the bags are available from vendors

..wait, wait, wait. I can have two professions and one harvesting skill??!

You can have 3 professions and no harvesting skills, if you really so choose.

I can make wool bags now. Send your wool to Ciaphas and I will make you some bags. Cotton bags or lack thereof is not a bug. Only vendors sell it. Seems silly but that's the case.

I do choose, but my first character has all 3 gathering professions and feeds my two crafters, who have no gathering skills.

When I break down a piece of armor and then combine some of the scraps to make a salvaged piece of leather or metal, what can I use those for? Normal recipes don't seem to take them.

Consumables. But to be honest, they are mostly used to skill up with, when you have a recipe that takes them. The duration on the consumable's buff is stupidly short, 5 minutes in one case. Check the recipe sellers near the mailbox in the Manufactory.

They were usuable with the next tier of recipes which i thought was weird.

You get different kinds of scrap from higher level items.

Can anybody make Fine Leather?

Mustafah can, though I don't believe I've got the raw mats on hand.

If I could have a couple of pieces for Spike, I would buy a blue recipe to make myself a new pair of nice pants. What are the mats required for fine leather?

By extension, I could also then craft those pants for any future level 32 leather users.

1 Medium Hide, 1 Heavy Hide, 2 Plain Thread (the 48s thread). Note that is hide, not leather. Had some mats on hand, sent you 9.
