Fringe Catch-All - You Are My Favorite Thing, Fringe. My Very Favorite Thing.

I just don't think Anna Torv is pulling it off that well. I love the way she plays the dual Olivias, but the Bell thing is just not doing it for me.

That's the problem I'm having with it. Bellivia is just annoying and makes the episode difficult to watch.

I felt sure that

Spoiler:

They were setting up for Paula Malcomson's immortal character to become Bell's new permanent host, thus killing two birds with one stone. Still possible, but since she's not listed for any more episodes, I guess not too likely.

I can relate to this. I get the feeling that they are writing Bell as too jovial, and it is coming off a little weird. I think I would feel more comfortable if Torv just went with her own voice, instead of trying to make it sound old. I'm guessing that probably played even worse as they rehearsed it.

But this is really just nitpicking, because the story still works for me, and I just decided to go with it. I can understand how Torv's performance is too distracting for some, though. I think less is more would have been better.

It's really the voice that Torv is using. She doesn't sound anything like Nimoy, so it's just awkward. Why would you drop your voice and get a gravely style of speaking just because you jumped into a new body, anyway?

Exactly. Speech patterns and phrasing are one thing, but affecting physical characteristics is silly.

Spoiler:

they ARE adding a new female cast member at the end of this season, a "new recruit FBI agent," maybe this new character will be a volunteer to host Bell in a Jekyll/Hyde deal. Whenever a bell chimes, the personality swaps (hints of which we saw in the most recent episode).

Really, of all the absurd and impossible things on Fringe this is where you finally draw the line of "silly"?

Keep in mind that a lot of tv is made for the lowest common denominator of viewer, the easiest way to make it abundantly clear to the entire audience who is in charge of Olivia's body is probably to do what they're doing.

I still want to know what happened to the NYC cop that was in a couple episodes in early season 2?

Thought she might be joining the team then we never saw her again.

Maybe they're doing the same thing with Lincoln on this side. But it'd be cool if he came back for more cases.

As things get worse, the barriers breaking down and so on, it seems like Fringe Division would get a bigger slice of the pie on our side as well, more staff, more tech, better office, etc, heading more towards the other side's Fringe setup.

This is the most probable reason, and why I find it easy to just decide to go with it. I find that doing so allowed me to enjoy the humor of the episode, along with the story.

And yeah, I would think fans of the show would have a better ability to accept the unexplained, since it is at the core of how the show works. There could be a very good reason Olivia sounds like this when Bell takes over, but having the writers explain it not really necessary.

How about, Bell is having a hard time adjusting to different vocal cords, and this is the result? Or maybe it is the result of having less control over them than he thinks, since Olivia is in there. Pick a possible explanation, choose to believe it, and then get on with enjoying the rest of the show.

I can't Jayhawker and I are agreeing on something. It's to weird.

It's so weird that you can't actually even utter the word "believe."

Don't worry, though. I'm developing a well thought out argument in favor of spoilers.

He's a Giants fan now. Anything is possible.

That's how blown away my mind was.

As for the spoilers argument. There is no such thing as a well thought out argument FOR spoilers. The idea itself is ludicrous!

LIAR! How dare you!

How awesome is it that even this thread exposes endless impossibilities?

Behold the power of FRINGE!

This week's episode is looking a little crazy over there...

So I finally caught up with this series, have been meaning to for awhile. Have really enjoyed it, even though there have been so, so many eyeroll moments. It's just so bad in so many places, but I like it anyway.

Well, up until recently, anyway. I gotta say, Olivia's recent changes are extremely grating. I can barely watch the episodes. I hope they hurry through that.

Apparently like others, I also miss gentle, doddering Walter from the first two seasons, but it makes such sense for him to be changing that I don't resent it in the least. It's a good story, and that's what characters do in good stories.

I just wish they treated the science and investigation with a little more respect. It's just so blatantly Star-Trekish so much of the time that I get really disappointed with it on a regular basis. They might as well put down, "Walter waves a magic wand" about 3/4 of the time.

Loved the 80s-themed episodes, especially the intro.

Isn't that the point of the show?

Possibly, but if it is, I think it could be done a lot better.

The reason Fringe works for so many people is that the show embraces the "endless impossibilities" without ever trying to imply that this could be real. That allows them to do fun X-files type stories, but concentrate more on the developments of the characters and their relationships. This is part of why the story arcs tend not to be frustrating. They are just another tool used to tell the story of these folks.

I love that Walter still has a cow in his lab that happens to reside on the Harvard campus. It's just fun, not logical. I think the writers do a great job of using Peter to explain why this batsh*t crazy stuff is just accepted. He drops in fun one-liners that lets us know he is in on the joke of it all. In the meanwhile, we get treated to some pretty cool stories about a young man re-connecting with his father and the building a realistic relationship with Olivia.

In many ways, this is just the X-Files, but nearly perfected.

Woohoo! 4th Season!

If you need me, I'll be in my happy dome...

Woohoo!

I'm pretty surprised about this.

They've been doing rather well in the death slot, actually. Despite recent plot occurrences I would have been more surprised if it wasn't renewed.

Well, the X-Files connection is pretty obvious, but one of the things I really liked about that show was that it treated the real world with some seriousness; weird sh*t happened all the time, but the characters knew it was weird, and were trying to explain it. Here, you get things like pulling a scientist out of a mental institution, who promptly demands a lab in Harvard, and then regularly gets bodies delivered out of ongoing investigations without anyone so much as batting an eye. And they've brought back bombs a couple of times, and terribly infectious biological agents, and they're on a college campus.

They totally could have handled the dead-body issue early on in the series, by having someone pitch a massive fit about the violation of protocol, and then having Broyles call upstairs and get it taken care of. After that, they could have just done what they're doing now.

It's okay to break rules when you have a bit of explanation. But just letting some old biochemist crank take bodies from ongoing investigations with no explanation whatsover is very sloppy. And I really don't see how they could ever justify bringing bombs to Harvard.

Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the show, but I think I may have sprained my eyeroll muscles during Season One.

Fringe Exclusive: Boardwalk Empire Standout Emily Meade Joins the Team
By Michael Ausiello

The Fringe division appears to be fortifying its ranks as it races to avert a possible apocalypse.

The Fox thriller has tapped actress Emily Meade — best known for her memorable (albeit brief) stint as Michael Pitt’s prostitute-girlfriend on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire — to play a new FBI agent.

Her character — described as a wide-eyed and eager rookie who’s ready to face all of the challenges in front of her — turns up in the ominously titled May 6 season finale, “The Day We Died.”

Of course, the question remains: WHICH Fringe team is the new recruit working for, the one Over Here or the one Over There? Post your theories below!
