Pokemon Gotta Catch-Em-All

I wouldn't go that far, but it has been annoying. You get the grass starter, then the water monkey, then... nothing. Apparently Pansear ca be found in the first forest but he's really rare?

Although I'm wondering if a fire monkey would really be that much better, I've replaced the water guy with the tadpole you catch and haven't looked back.

While I was back looking for Drillbur my Blitzle leveled up to 18, so now he has a fire attack that will hopefully get me through any grass types without a problem.

Route 3 without a fire dude? F*** that! Route 3 was a slog with my fire monkey.

Is there a pansear on 3? I gotta catch all my monkeys.

But yeah, my water monkey is out of my group now for being generally sucky. New tadpole thing all the way.

Yonder, we should start a support group for people who chose Snivy. Damn he's terrible. He evolved and now has some kind of leaf attack that actually does damage but getting him to 18 was painful.

FYI, Oshowutt or whatever his name was, is a certified badass. His Special Attack Power is out of this world at level 19 compared to all my other Pokemon. And his HP isn't too shabby either.

All my pokemon except my starter (Dewott) and Sawk have begun disappointing me. Even Sawk lacks a permanent spot due to such a limited movepool. I got Victini but I have a no-legendaries before credits policy.

I've been getting a lot of mileage out of Maractus as my main grass-type. It's one of the few that I'm not constantly switching in and out. Even the Roggenrola evolution (Gigalith or something) feels lackluster compared to a good old fashioned Geodude.

Found on the tumblr of the dude what made the disturbing pokemons article:

apologies for creepiness.

I'm a fan of my Throh, catch an extra Sawk and we can trade. Did you give your Sawk Rock Smash? That helped my Throh get through the lower levels before he started to get better fighting moves.

Yeah, I checked Snivy's stats compared to the others and it looks like while the other two starters are offense based, Snivy has lower hp and attack then any of them. His defense and speed are substantially higher though, but that's usually not how I roll. It does mean that in a trickier fight when I don't have a pokemon with an advantage I can just toss Majesty in and he can win the slugging match, so I'm not too disappointed with him over all. If I sacrifice a turn or two at the beginning to use Growth then he's quite good.

I'll also speak in defense of Blitzle again while I'm here. That electric attack he has in the early game isn't supposed to be a powerhouse damage wise. It's advantage is that it can never miss.

Don't think that I'm just a sap that lets all my pokemon walk over me with no regards to their utility. Panpour has been disapointing, and my Purrloin is completely terrible. Timburr had better step up soon too. I have him only because he will evolve into new pokemon for my pokedex. I much, much prefer my Throh for combat.

Blitzle has Quick Attack too, which is awesome for whittling down a wild Pokemon's health so you can capture them more easily. That dude is an all-star.

EDIT:
Also, I just happened to stumble on the murder-mole. Had no clue it was rare. Where are you guys finding the info on the rares? Would be nice to see it layed out per route, so I knew to try to find the pocket monsters before I left the area.

I see stuff moving, so I go over there and walk around until I see movement, then make a beeline.

Finding my murder mole and that pink cow thing have been dumb luck so far, the only thing I've looked up has been when my wee little monsters evolve so I can figure out if it's wise to hand them a stone or not.

Also, gamefaq has some nice things about which pokemon can be found where and their appearance %.

In general the pokedex is ordered in the order that you will come across the pokemon, so if you leave an area and skip over to a different type of pokemon and miss one of them that's your queue to head back.

I haven't really found a list of rare pokemon yet, I think it just becomes apparent when you come across them. I didn't know if the Drillbur was going to show up randomly, or only in a dust cloud until I found him.

I can't stress enough the importance of having the dowsing machine on at all times, at least if you're into item-hunting. I'd say there are 6-10 items buried per route/area, and usually the stuff you get is quite advanced for that part of the game. For example, in the Desert Resort I got two pearls, a stardust, a rare candy, a couple ultra balls, and a couple hyper potions.

Also, you can register multiple items, so if you register both the dowsing machine and the bike, say, it just pops up a small menu to pick which one you want, and it's still easier than going all the way into the menu. I think this is a new feature, but I could be wrong.

I turned it on Route 3 (Maybe?), when it told me to, was confuzzled at how it worked, and proceeded to ignore it for the remainder of my time playing.
How the heck does it work? I saw two lines on the screen, and sometimes they moved. How do you find stuff with the darn thing?

When you're near something hidden, the two lines will point in its general direction. - - with an arrow indicates it's to the left or right, etc. You can use it to pinpoint, then when the lines are / \ like so, you're on top of the item. Take one step away, face the spot you were on, and you'll get the item.

The GBA games were the ones that started item registration, but it stuck them on buttons, limiting to 3 items at a time. I'm not sure if I like this better or not.

This is so Elewis and i can pat ourselves on the back publicly

Its been 10 minutes since I first saw this, and I still can't stop laughing.

You're easily amused which is probably why we're friends.

I find it funny that he gets a DSi what... 3 months before the new DS comes out, AND gets the newest in a 2 decade old series, then you attribute it to peer pressure. I like to tell my friends they really need to get a VHS player cause Empire strikes back is really rad too.

I hope he picks the fiery red starter pokeyman. :3

I told him to not pick the stupid grass one. But, in hindsight, now I know exactly which starter-mon he's going to pick.

I just started and am about 10 minutes in. Is the grass one that bad?

No it's not. These people be haters.

Some of them even hate Blitzle. They are lucky that Blitzle is a kind and loving pokemon, so they will never get a wake-up call of 10,000 volts to the genitals.

Blitzle and the grass starter both suck. Firepig is where it's at, though with the lack of good water types and the unusual large # of fire types, I could excuse you for taking the otter.

Lack of good water types? That tadpole is the bee's knees.

I'd actually recommend you get the cover fossil in the desert resort and use the turtle you get from the museum off it. Really good.

FYI the Exp Share is obtainable at Battle Company once you clear two floors of Trainers. It can be kind of a game changer, so I'd recommended getting it as soon as you can.

Yes. On the main drag to the left of the Pokemon Center.

Where's that, in Castelia?

Yeah, couple to the left of the Pokecenter. I must have forgotten to do the second floor.

Strangely, my game has frozen twice in the last 20 minutes. Once when going from one zone to another and again when my Roggenrola was evolving. I hadn't seen the game freeze until now, and I think it might be because it's on the charging cable. Either that or my old DS Lite is really in bad shape.
