Pokemon Gotta Catch-Em-All

This is the first pokemon game I've picked up since blue. Glad I did!

I'm on my way to the 3rd gym now, making slow progress.

You can c*ck around with the DS's clock without penalty in these.

Also, the list of wild pokemon I've been referring to doesn't designate any as particular to day and night. They may have nixed it, or adjusted it so they spawn less frequently at certain times.

I think if you change the clock around too much you make the edition specific location (white forest and black city) become more and more baron each time; not sure about the time of day thing though...

So I see why Nintendo is so hesitant to really change these games.

I reached the big city, the one you see in the trailers. I went down one alley, and it had like 5 houses. I went in none. Then I went down another alley, four more houses to go in. I panicked and turned my DS off.

I have yet to find a diffrence between the black and white versions. Anybody know of any? I dont which ones to pick up

The difference is which pokemon can be caught in each, and apparently a different area or two (Black City vs. White Forest). Usually it's just the version exclusive pokemon.

The coinciding mental image is amusing.

I used th C Gear for the first time today to add a friend. Just use IR to swap friend codes. Damn this C Gear is useful.

I like the Pokemon variety so far. Only downside is that Patrat and Lillipup are very similar early on but your line up is limited. Contrast to Red/Blue where you could get normal, flying, poison, bug and electric before the first gym.

I added my friend code to the Google spreadsheet. I have the White version btw (I added the version type as a column in the sheet too).

Currently I'm just before the last gym, the Dragon gym. Ugh. Trying to level up a Fraxure for the fights but the enemies in the areas nearby don't really give much xp. I could probably get away with just using my lv49 Victini, but I want to have a dragon type for the E4 anyway (well, other than Zekrom once I get to the point where I can capture it). Good thing is that while levelling, I found and captured a shiny Minccino. It's adorable, I named him Pinky (Narf!).

I haven't played any Pokemon since Red, but I'm strongly considering this.

So I made the jump from Red to White today. So far I have to say that the original pokemon were better. I know that's just me being an old man set in my ways though, it'll be interesting to see if I change my mind a week from now.

I haven't done DS multiplayer before. How do you find your friend code?

Different areas and some exclusive pokemon.

I went with White because I'd like to be able to catch some of the older pokemon I'm familiar with in the White Forest. Also Poochyena and Mightyena are way cuter than Houndour and especially Houndoom.

At some point a character will give you the Pal Pad. That's where your code is. I believe it was the scientist you run into sometime after beating the first gym.

As for exchanging codes, I guess you need to connect to wifi so the system knows your code, then...uh...I don't know, really. I haven't done it since Pearl. I'm sure the info is easy enough to find online, though.

My Roggenrola is now level 22, 3 levels til evolution. He needs to be traded to get his third form, so..

My friend and I at PAX East actually did it with the C-Gear. I clicked on the button that said IR and one of the links said something along the lines of "Friend Code". It took a minute or two, but our systems connected and friended each other.

Simple as that.

Oh, word. Yonder, just pop on by my place when you get a shot.

~_~

Alright, I've got Dhelor, Dominic Knight, and Destrin registered. I assume from here you guys also need to add me, and then if you're going in the wifi stuff you'll be able to see whoever's on.

I was thinking of picking one of these up. I've picked up a pokemon game from time to time, but it has never really done anything for me. Something entices me, but it just never gets it's hooks all the way in.

Whether or not I'd recommend another try kind of depends on what you have found lacking in prior games.

If the basic mechanic of building your party and fighting through towns/gyms was the problem, this is just that, but as refined as ever.

If it was the poor production value, this would be worth a look.

See, I enjoy this part. I never got too far. I think I kept getting bogged down with constantly leveling every pokemon I had.

That's how I look at it.

And I've been spoiling the whole gawddamn game for myself by looking at the late-game Pokemon, some of them look really cool.

And then there's the ice cream cone.

Well, I personally enjoy using a 6-animal team once I find 6 that I like well enough, but most people say 3 is the ideal amount (for getting through the story, anyway). The game actually suggests it in conversation with a character this time. Pokemon games are so easy to multitask with that I don't mind grinding to keep my team even at all.

Grinding is even more streamlined in this one as there are many places that have "doctor" trainers that, once you've beaten them once, will heal your team whenever you talk to them. They're usually right in the middle of a cave or forest, or very near to a grassy area, so it's simple to put your powerhouse in the lead, plop an Exp. Share on your weaker member, and just slam the area pokemon with your most powerful moves over and over and over again. I've been doing that on Victory Road and nearly all my team is in the mid 50s except my level 51 Vanilluxe (I had to, I mean, come on, it's a freaking ice cream cone!). I'm probably more than ready for the Pokemon League, but I want my Frosty up to at least 54 as well.

By the way, I'm available most of the time if anyone wants to set up to trade off to get their trade-evolved pokemon. Send me a message or something and we can set up times (I'm on the Pacific time zone fyi). I've already managed to get most of those done via the Global Trade function, as well as snagging the other two starters I didn't pick. When I get a Ditto after I beat the E4 I'll start breeding some babbies for anyone that wants 'em.

What can I say, I got a lot of time, and not much else to do. ^_^

That's bullcrap. This generation's water pokemon looks absolutely ridiculous. As awesome as his last form looks I didn't want to suffer through his first two. I went with Snivy.

I have to agree. I love most pokemon designs, but that freaking water clown thing is an abomination.

No complaints about how Samantha's evolved, though..

And as the far as the fire pig thing went, I thought the first stage looked really cool, much better than the others (even Snivy). I went to go look at the later evolutions, expecting a kick-ass flaming hellboar.

They went in a different direction.

heh.

Anyway, I'm in. Buying tonight.

Bought last night. I'll add my friend code to the spreadsheet when I can.

Pearl was my first look at the series, got the legendary but didn't finish the game. Was too scared to use the legendary until I'd got my head around EV training.

I will not be doing any of that crap for this one. I'll just play and have fun.

I added my info to the Google doc.

I'm heading for the 3rd gym but haven't had much time to play the last week.

I had Pearl, but eventually got too involved in berry farming. I'd pick up and play for an hour, but all I wound up doing was harvesting and planting berries. And I hardly ever used them, either.

Heh heh heh. As a kid I had to go with my gut on the sort of pokemon types you'd want in an optimally balanced team. Fourteen years later and I have my computer brute forcing it.

I bought a Pokedex for my iPhone today.

I feel like I missed out on my chance to collect a TON of Goodjer Friend Codes at PAX. Anyone want to hit me up with their friend code via PM? Mine is on my posts.

What is this spreadsheet you speak of? I would like to show you my pokemanz.
