Brink Catch-All

I'd be getting the PC version if it reviews decently enough.

Undecided still. I was waiting to see where everyone else here was getting it.

If the game reviews well there will be plenty of players on both.

TF and later TF2 were one of the first popular, stylized, class based, colorful, FPSs out there. One of the videos i saw was them bragging about how color was the new thing. Seriously?

I do love objective based games, and probably will give this a go. Well depending if i'm not playing BF3 or SWTOR at that time.

and for the record i didnt call Brink stupid. I just laughed at their hubris and since that type of thing turns me off i dropped it down on my list of games to worry about.

And Unreal Tournament did colorful, objective-based team multiplayer back in 1999!

Seriously, I think they're entitled to plug their stylized, colorful art style a bit. We've seen it before on PC, but can you think of any successful multiplayer shooters that have done it on console, aside from Halo? And even if you're annoyed by the PR, you've got to admit, nothing else looks quite like Brink.

Brink does seem to take the hat type customizable look mechanic and takes it up a level. No, it doesn't change the gameplay as far as I know, but it looks pretty cool to me:

PR is PR. If anyone stands up in front of a camera and doesn't babble on about their awesome new game and how it is the most awesome thing of awesome things evar, then he's earned a severe dressing down by the "suits." The memory of advertisers is much shorter than the memory of an average GWJer.

So 360 I guess. Not sure about any of that pre-order stuff. I don't want to have to go through Walmart, that's for sure.

And I'll just have to hope it'll be stable on my machine. I haven't done this in a while, but I might have to "try" before I buy. I'd like to limit my Steam garbage to just one title, Black Ops.

Ranalin, while you're entitled to have Brink's PR rub you the wrong way, TF2 was hardly the first "colorful" FPS, nor is Brink "about" its visual style. Just about everything else I've heard about Brink says that it's NOT like TF2, beyond being a team-based shooter with a similar perspective.

You'd might as well call it a rip-off of Mirror's Edge because you can climb stuff.

I started playing Action Quake which was the first class/team based shooter i played and from there i started playing TF. So i've seen a few and I did mention there were others between TF and TF2. I even tried ET:QW along the way.

They have almost similar class make ups and characterizations. TF2 made a point in their PR about color and all that jazz. I'm not saying they're the same thing, but their PR just rubbed me the wrong way.

Whee. I've been kind of excited about Brink's movement system, but the whole "no female characters" thing makes me sad, so I'm going to end up waiting and seeing if people think the game is the most awesome thing since sliced bread. If it is, I may pick it up.

I'm probably going to get this on PC but after my experience with Homefront, I'll probably wait to see how it's received. Unless there's a TF2 hat involved, then I'll pre-order it because I'm a whore.

I'm in two minds over this. Very rarely does a shooter have female characters and it's not really an issue (although that doesn't mean you can't aim to change/improve the situation). I can appreciate that there may be hitbox issues trying to make two genders with different body proportions have the same body shape for the gameplay. On the other you could say find a way to make it work. Going with the TF2 comparison again, there have been 3rd party female models to maintain the style and silhouettes on that game.

I can understand memory limitations with consoles, but it would be nice to see it on PC, even if it was a mod that got official blessing.

If it reviews well, PC for me!

The big thing for me is that the dress-up angle has no appeal to me for big sweaty looking guys. If there's going to be dress-up, then I need cute girls. (Yes. I am very strange.) If it was just a set of pre-generated characters (like TF2, L4Ds, etc.) it wouldn't bother me—but they're emphasizing "You can unlock things and customize your character!" rather a lot here.

Did you ever own DOA: Beach Vollyball? Just curious.

PC for me.

Nope. But I did play DOA 2 on my dreamcast. (And in more recent memory: I did spend more than an hour tweaking my Hawke's appearance for Dragon Age 2... >_>)

Provided my PC can handle it, PC here. I can't hit anything on a console.

So will this game have strafe jumping? I love skipping down a hill on Wolf: ET.

Direct2Drive is having a 20% off sale on FPS games this weekend with the coupon code "specwar5", Brink presumably included. D2D has the Pyscho pre-order bonus if you are interested.

Brink is a Steamworks game though. So, if you really care about the pre-order stuff, you can get whichever one you want and still activate the game on Steam.

Went ahead and preordered the 360 version. Though if the game is as good as I hope, I may actually double dip and get it through Steam as well.

This is the first attractive looking multiplayer shooter in a looong time - yes, I despise "realistic" and "world/modern day war shooters" because imo they haven't evolved much in the last decade, thank you very much - so I'm tagging this in case they deliver what the trailers promise.

If I get it I'll definitely be on the PC.

Right, but that means it would be a TON more work to add in three more models. Though I admit, I'd find it hilarious to take the gigantic female bruiser character and give her a pretty pink dress.
