Penguincon 2011: It was Fedorable

...y'know, I think we're well on our way, Portugal.

Tagged for the strong maybe, after how awesome PAX was

Make it a definitely.

As far as time slots, I dunno, me personally, I liked wandering around and seeing what people were doing, and then just randomly rounding people up for something or else getting rounded up for something. Maybe I missed this, but maybe have a few rooms scheduled off for different things, and then a few more rooms or areas available for anything at any time as long as they're open... that will probably happen any way but I really just need a post here so I don't keep missing updates.

Yeah, I think I learned my lesson last year about having a schedule. Once people start drinking or otherwise engrossed it's impossible to stick to it.

We'll have some scheduled stuff but mainly I'll leave it up to you folks to keep yourselves entertained.

I agree, though. There will certainly be a simplified Omegathon-type tournament of some kind, but beyond that I think letting people schedule their own fun tends to work better.

On a separate note, I'm a local and will almost certainly not be more than 30 minutes from my house, but here's a question for those of you coming from out of town: I know Penguin has linked area hotels earlier in the thread. Are there any other resources we could provide that would make your trip/stay easier?

Tut tut. Temper.

I'm just looking for ideas, man.

I find that sentences that end in ", man" are best read in Chong's voice.

My internal version uses the Dude's voice.

Preferred.

I say we pick a date and call it a community event.

(This message may or may not have been suggested by Cory Banks)

When we pick a date, it will be a community event or am I not understanding the suggestion?

I naturally go British with lines like that, but the Dude's voice works perfectly.

Penguincon abides.

He was suggesting you put the 'I' in team.

I suggest you put the "ewok" in "teamwork." Why are you talking in riddles, Dave?

"Shaka, when the walls fell."

That's metaphors, broseph. Tembah, his arms wide.

I get my own reference I just wasn't sure that "the 'I' in team" was actually a metaphor.

Tagging- Cleveland is in driving range for me. I could be persuaded to bring some board games from my collection.

Only if you tell me that I can be your wingman anytime, Iceman.

Good god, you have more board games than I have games on steam.

So that's 1 request for a dedicated Railroad Room, huh?

Holy Moses some of those train games are insane. Ticket to Ride for me, thx :O

If you can assure me that people will play them, I can promise you a room dedicated to 6 hour long games about trains.

(but then everyone has to play Diplomacy with me).

That just gave me a great idea:

Weekend long game of Diplomacy.

We'll make a list of players.
Those players will be broken out into 7 teams of people.
Each of those 7 teams will be given a county in Diplomacy.
A turn will be due every 2 hours*

Oh. And we'll keep who is on each team secret with the exception of a single captain.

You want to negotiate? Negotiate.
You want to spy? Spy.
You want to get a foreign nation so drunk they can't get their turn in? Do it up.

The captain can designate who can put in turns for their team, that way the game can just run in the background all weekend and no one will have to dedicate themselves to it completely.

We can also have a map and projector set up to determine turn outcomes.

*I need to do the math on turn length. We could change it to every hour and have some down time for sleep instead.
