I'm having a good time with the SK Modified cars. I looked on the iRacing forums for setups and downloaded a setup from Justin. With about 50 laps of practice at Martinsville, I managed to hit 19.8xx, with consistent times around 20.0xx
I kind of expected that my times would be off by a half-second or so, since I really don't have a handle on adjusting setups. I do feel pretty comfortable with the setup I have though. I have pretty good control through the corners (under braking).
In any event, I went to put up a qualifying time (no matter how bad your time is, you're still better than the 50% of racers who don't qualify before racing). I'm not even in the same league. I wish I could see what these guys are doing.

I'm also kind of wondering why the field has so many A class drivers when it's a D class car. And yes, I know you spent the money and can race whatever you paid for but it seems like if you raced within your highest class cars, you'd have the most competitive field, the cleanest drivers, etc. An all around better experience, I would think.
I'm concerned that maybe I'm not yet ready to race the SKs, even though I'm as clean as a whistle going 'round the track. I tried online practice too, but there were no other cars.
So another off-topic, but since this weekend is the first of the ALMS season, I have to push it.
Here is a track you should all be familiar with now from iRacing (obligatory on-topic) and one of the best finishes I have ever seen. I was lucky to be at this race and sitting right in front of the drama as it unfolded at the end at the start-finish line. This is why ALMS is the best racing series on the planet right now:
Yeah, I'm around Sunday, and the wife and kids will out until early evening.
Jeff-66 wrote:I would love to run the Vettes at Sebring, though. In fact I've been doing just that off & on for the past few days. Not very well I might add (2:13.5'ish).
Make that a 2:11.676 now, and dropping. I'm aiming for 2:04.xx, which would put me at +10% over world best (currently at +15.8%)
I love, love, love watching replays of myself in these fast cars, especially using the external TV cams. It's a hoot! It also gives me ideas of where I can improve.
I am going to just host a private session tonight, 2100 EST. C6 at Sebring. If nobody shows, I lost 3 bucks, big deal. Lots of practice time, not really worried about the race part. Join in if you are around.
Are you going to password it, or leave it open to the unwashed?
I'll password it: goodjer. More info in about 30 minutes.

Good job all. Thanks. Sorry you missed most the session Jeff.
The Jetta is a strange beast. I don't know if you would like it. It is the antithesis of the Vette. Having said that, it is a fun challenge.
I say stick with the SB. Those are made to frustrate until you start using better driving habits. It is a trainer.
Sorry I missed the session last night. I needed to have just a wee bit more notice.
Thanks for hosting, Sir. That was a lot of fun. I ran that race a few months back in the fixed setup vette league, and the guys up front were turning 1:55's if I remember correctly, so there's still plenty of time left to find on that track.
The only thing I know about the Jetta's is that you need to shift at about 3,000 RPM. Taking them to redline before the gear change is inefficient for their diesel engine. They are fun to drive, just different than you might expect.
I look forward to doing that again. If we can come to terms on a schedule of some sort, I'm happy to rent a server for us as well. $3.00 well spent last night.
I just noticed on the front page, that iRacing is having a bonus sale on credits.

Ok I just did both of these then put a bunch of stuff in my cart to see if it would also give me the 20% off for 6+ items, I ended up saving a total of 39% on 3 cars and 9 tracks. I got right under $160 of content for a few dollars less than $100.
This deal had to hurt a bit Don, coming a day after you just grabbed all that stuff.
I just did something very similar. I think I don't own 4 tracks now. All cars, and all but 4 or 5 oval courses are MINE! Thanks for the heads up on the promo stuff. I had intended on buying only Spa today, but instead I spent the 75 bucks and got Spa, Michigan, Pocono, New Hampshire, The A Class Impala, and the Sprint Car.
That leaves me about 10 bucks left from the promo. Debating now on throwing the $20 promo on my card just to have it in there..... hmmm....
Which makes it a good time to load up on goodies and send iRacing some of your hard earned $$. More cars + More tracks = MOAR FUNZ! /shill
I apologize to those that missed last night. Sometimes spontaneity finds the best participation.
Tonight, I will host another session of practice for the C6 at Sebring. I will be there most the time but may have to step out here and there.
Let's plan on same name and password. I'll open it up at 1900 EST and run it until 2200 EST, when we will do qualifying, if they will let me go that long.
Tomorrow or Saturday, I will host a race. I will take suggestions for best time.
I'll be there. Too much fun to be had.
I thought Saturday was a bad day for someone here on the forum. Don had something going on and wouldn't be available till Sunday. I'm up for anything though - name the time and track.
Jeff - In a post above, you stated that you were "...aiming for 2:04.xx, which would put me at +10% over world best (currently at +15.8%)". Where do you find that information on the iRacing site? I'd love to know where I rank with some things.
Also, it doesn't seem to keep your fastest times from hosted sessions (cause they're not official??). I set a PB with that 1:59.xxx lap last night, but I'm still showed on my stats page as having a fast lap of 2:00.xxx
**Edit / P.S. I normally remote control my home PC from my office to bypass certain web content filtering, and by doing so, I usually hang out in the iRacing 'Texas' chat room. If anyone ever wants to BS during the day. **Edit again - Looks like you can make your own chat room, so I made a GWJ one.
We need more participants. @curious GWJ dude checking out this thread, please join us. This is probably the lowest threat environment you will ever get for a realistic sim.
I found it interesting how close my pct over world best was, regardless of the car & track.
Racing is a business of close differences. The ALMS GT class usually has about 6-8 cars within 5-7 seconds of each other after 6 hours!
EDIT: The craziest thing about that: They are almost all different car makes and models.
Session is up:
150 mins practice, 3 lap qualify, 10 lap race
GWJ iRacing, pass=goodjer
Yeah, I'm a bit annoyed that I missed the sale by 1 day. Oh, well.
