*Release* RIFT GWJ guild member intros

I thought it would be a nice for the folks who are in the GWJ RIFT guild to introduce who they are along with their character names, so that we can put players and toons together.

I'm playing
Rhimshot (Healy Bard)
Dom (Cleric Healer)
Thunderfury (Mage who likes to die a lot)
Meeple (Warrior)

In the real world, I'm a professor at Syracuse University and was the host of Board Games with Scott (http://boardgameswithscott.com) video series for five years and am a regular on the On Board Games (http://onboardgames.net) podcast.

I've also done professional boardgame design (Tulipmania 1637 and other games on their way out) and study board games in libraries and as an educational tool as a professor. I wrote a book on the topic that came out in 2010 called Everyone Plays at the Library. I live in Syracuse, NY and tend to be bursty in my playtime, as my real life job takes over at times.

I'm playing 4 characters, but Oponn (Rogue tank/DPS) gets the most love. The others are Whiskeyjack (Riftblade), Yushis (Shaman) and Salazar (Necromancer).

The latter two aren't in the guild; I haven't bothered to get invites yet.

I'm a PhD student of geology at UMass; I enjoy hiking (related!) and reading in my offtime. Also, I'm hard of hearing so... yeah! My job takes me out of the house (okay, apartment) once in a while. In fact, in about 10 days I'll be on a 10 days trip out to Maine.

Graphic Designer from Fort Collins Colorado here. Married with 3 awesome kids! I was brought into the GWJ fold by Holla who I know from living overseas. Same place, same time, kinda thing.

I started gaming with all the Ultima games back in the 80s and 90s. I'm relatively new to MMORPGs having only played WoW starting around 2008. Started with DPS, went to heals, and found my groove playing tanks.

I'm loving RIFT, and I play Avgust (cleric), Dezember (warrior), Januari (mage), Nuvember (rogue). I'm not a binge leveler and will probably be working on these toons for some time.

Heh, ditto.

I'm a statistician for one of the non-evil government agencies. Living in Southern Maryland, married with 1 child.

I have several characters in Rift: Zollac(rogue), Zilly (mage) Zoloid (warrior) and Ziliad (cleric)

This is my first game as part of the GWJ community (been a lurker/podcast listener for 2 years)
My online gaming background in based in LP Muds starting back in 1991. Before that was Ultima 4/5.
I've been playing F2P MMOs lately and Rift is my first subscription based game (that's right, I've never played WOW)

I'm playing Kelset (warrior) and Delgus (sab spec rogue). Live in Woodbridge, Va where I am a Marine support contractor. My wife also plays as Rapunzel (cleric).

Pleasure to meet you all and look forward to gaming with you all as time and the fates allow.

My mains in Rift are Arovin (Cleric) and Shahes (Mage)

I'm a Computer Technician at a community hospital and a Massage Therapist on the side.

I've been here at GWJ since 2005 and have played a few MMO's with the group here. Rift is the 1st MMO where I see myself getting to the end game. I tend to have chronic Alt-itis and have never stuck it through to the end with one character. Rift should be the cure for that since I can spec and change my build any time I want.

I have already had more fun in the head start then I have in an MMO in years. I am looking forward to leveling with you all.

I generally like to max level one character before the alt-itis hits me, so right now I'm only with Pond, a saboteur/bard/ranger.

Otherwise, I have my own graphic design company, primarily focused on print and web advertisements for businesses. I used to paint and write/draw comic books as well, but don't really have the time or inclination anymore now that art is a job. I am married to a microbiologist and we have two extremely needy cats.

Greetings all,

Antun-Cleric

I'm currently finishing law school and getting ready for the bar exam. I'm living in the great state of Indiana, and I'm married with one extremely active toddler.

Evening all,

I'm mainly on my bard/nightblade/ranger Leoman, but also occasionally on my work-in-progress mage Apt. First MMO was more like a MO, a text-based mud called Gemstone III which turned into Gemstone IV, and the company behind it, Simutronics, is the one that's providing the engine for the new KOTOR MMO. That was ages ago, back when AOL cost $3 an hour, and I racked up monthly bills in the $350 neighborhood.

Gave WoW a shot a few months after it came out, and played pretty consistently and heavily up until about a year ago, when the wife and I decided it was time to start a family. Scratching the MMO itch again w/ Rift and have cancelled my WoW account, but I have zero intention of ever doing any serious raiding.

In the real world, I'm in Georgia working for a big insurance company as an analyst, playing in spreadsheets and databases all day.

Mello:

I'm MistyStruction - Warrior.

In real life, I'm a lawyer at a large Manhattan law firm.

Good luck with the bar exam. July, I assume? Plenty of time then. Where do you plan to practice? I will likely take a second bar this July, as well.

Professor -- I checked out your research and find it fascinating -- both with respect to your gaming and library science scholarship. After I practice for a couple years, I intend to head to academia, if possible.

I also see you're an avid sax player -- me too. In fact, I studied for a couple years at Syracuse under Ron Caravan about a billion years ago.

I'm actually going to be taking the February (2012) bar exam. I still have one more semester left after this one. (Probably should have been more clear ).

I'll probably end up staying here in Indiana, my wife has a job here and she's hesitant to uproot the wee one.

In any case good luck on the July bar!

Hi everyone,

Bauer-Rogue (Bard/riftstalker)

I am a small animal veterinarian living in Hershey, PA. I am married and have one daughter who is nine. We moved to Hershey
about 1 1/2 years ago. We previously lived in the Buffalo, NY area for about 15 years.
I went to school at Ohio State and now my wife works for Penn State. (Hence the reason for the move)

For a second I read that as one spouse went to OSU and one spouse went to Penn State. Unhappy Fall Saturdays.

Also, I went to Michigan, so of course you are now my mortal enemy.

Enjoy your last year of law school. It's a tremendous experience that goes by far too fast. I hated law school at times, but looking back it was a really great place and perhaps my last chance to feel academic. It's easy to blow off your 3L, so try be involved in something straight through to the end. Congrats to you for making it this far with a little one. Law school was all consuming at times (which doesn't get better once you join a firm, I found out) and I couldn't imagine caring for a child while trying to figure out the nuances of the Erie doctrine. Any idea what type of law you'll practice in after graduation?

Hello all,

Hazefest, Warrior Dps/tank

Armorsmith in the works hope to see you in game and at 50!

Lutea, Rogue (probably going to be heavily bard)

I just got the game tonight, and so far about all I've done is make my character and join the guild I caught wind of the guild via Scott's thread at boardgamegeek (where I post under the same name -- imyourskribe).

The only MMO I've spent any real amount of time with is WoW, but I've dabbled in a couple others (notably Dark Age of Camelot and Ultima Online, very briefly). Most of my gaming time has been spent on board games and video game consoles as of late.

I'm a software engineer in Austin, TX. I've got a wife of whom I am quite fond, and two cats who are probably plotting to off me while I sleep. At least, I hear that's what cats do. It's all part of their charm, I suppose.

Looking forward to playing with you all!

Playing both sides, primarily under Sepulchrave (necro) or Constant (cleric).

Been playing games forever, lots of mmo, and I'm really digging into Rift after spending some time with LOTRO and Warhammer.

Advertising executive, living in Los Angeles, with 2 awesome kids and a great wife. And really liking the GWJ gang, been listening to the casts for well over a year, just now getting into the forums.

Thanks guys!

Cicero - cleric
Ulysses - warrior
Alexi - mage
Bart - mage
Virgil- rogue

I work in IT as a database guy and project manager for a custom manufacturing company. Basically, our customer(s) come up with an idea for some new widget they want built, and our company designs and manufactures said widget.

Additional info. Crow112101 in guild is my RL brother, and his wife, "Rapunzel" is my sister in law. At one time or another in my past I competed in IDPA and I'm a registered firearms instructor. I'm a little short on hearing from that as well, so recognizing voices in vent and matching them to people is a real challenge for me. At meetings or in person I tend to lip read to augment my hearing issues, but I cannot do that online. These days my primary hobby is raising my kids and working with our mastiff as a therapy dog for disabled kids for the Shriners hospitals, but I try to game some as well, time permitting.

Hello all!

Hydi: Cleric (Warden/Sent/purifier) Outfitter/apothecary/forager
Weema: Warrior (Reaver/void/pally) forager/butcher/miner
Birgitte: Rogue (Ranger/Bard/mark)
Rand: Mage

Been playing games most of my life, starting with Sesame Street Math counter, but the first real game was probably Civ 1. I still LOVE that game. I didn't really get into a MMO until WOW, but played a few Mud games here and there. After about 6 years in wow, I think I am ready to never go back. Rift is FREAKING awesome. lol

When I'm not gaming I'm keeping a small city safe from crime in central Illinois, spending time with family and trying to be a positive influence in some teen's lives.

I'm also super excited about how awesome our guildies are!

I hope to get stuck back into this shortly, so I'll throw out an intro.

Rogue: Khardan
Warrior... can't remember her name, at work. She's not in the guild just yet anyway.

So I'm 25, live in Adelaide, Australia and work in admin at a place that sells lasers (pew!). I don't have anywhere near as much time to play as I'd like, but plan to play Rift a bit more once I've completed Dragon Age 2. WoW was my first MMO and I've been playing it since release, I still play, but nowhere near as heavily as I used to. I play with my girlfriend though so giving it up entirely isn't an option, heh! Hope to do some dungeon runs and other activities with the guild once I'm a bit more invested.

I'm Shoal. I live in P&C, and I come out every now and again to play games. I tend not to alt much, so right now I just have Shoal- the mage. Alts, when I do have them, will likely just be variations of the name Shoal. I'm easy to spot like that.

Also, Hi Scott from Boardgames with Scott. I always enjoyed your videos (saw them a few years ago for the first time).

Oh yeah, IRL I'm a mechanical death machine from the future trying to eliminate specific targets. I can't tell you who, that would ruin the surprise.

Donald here.

I'm playing
Walsfeo (Mage Stormcaller and... I dunno what else.)
Wjalguarf (Warrior)
Walsfexia (Cleric)

I'll probably start up one of each weight class, with the Mage staying as my primary. I'd love to tank but I find it difficult to keep track of what's going on, in part because of camera and visibility issues, and also because the whole game seems stuttery.

In the real world, I manage a games and technology grant for the Georgetown County Library System and the producer/host of on the On Board Games (http://onboardgames.libsyn.com/ http://onboardgames.net) podcast. I'm also co-owner of Second Rat Games, a vanity games company.

In years past I've also done professional game publishing, I worked at ICE as the brand manager for Silent Death and at Green Knight Publishing for the King Arthur Pendragon RPG. For video games I've was a designer on Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath, where one of my main tasks was working on UI.

Hi all! Right now my only active toon on Shatterbone:

Boyle, Cleric, lvl 39.

In the real world I'm Chris. I've been driveling about games since the old days of CSIPGS and was an early member of the Gone Gold, Quarter To Three, and Octopus Overlords forums. I still post there a lot, but the guilds associated with those places picked a server that has real population issues, and my enjoyment of Rift has been greatly impacted by that. I've always been a fan of GWJ (which I became aware of a few years ago by reading Bill Harris's blog), and I think the Conference Call is one of the most entertaining gaming podcasts out there. Don't know why it's taken me so long to post!

I'm the Operations Manager at a nice restaurant in the DC suburbs, but in a past life I made a brief living in the music industry doing everything from retail and radio promotion to writing to working as a clerk at the coolest record store in the midwest (Euclid Records in St. Louis). I still listen to too much music which I blog about infrequently at http://www.popnarcotic.com.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in-game!

I've eaten there before. Really good food (steakhouse). It's been a while, maybe it's time to go back.
