Official Team Fortress 2 Game Nights (PC)

Performance was much improved for me. I didn't see any rubberbanding at all (besides Latrine).

I'll be out today and tomorrow but Brainz has the rcon password as well as other server powers. Hopefully this will be a workable server for us.

Performance was pretty much the same for me once the server got over 20 people. Below that it was very smooth.

My ping said it was in the 100's for the whole time I was on but in gameplay I really didn't notice lag. Then again I never noticed lag on the other server except for near the end when the game started rubber banding.

Personally I sorta liked it. I just wish I had played better.

Performance was greatly improved for me. While there were a couple of momentary problems that could be caused by a myriad of things, there was not the near constant stuttering like what had been going on before.

My ping was hovering around 30 from the usual 90 or so and I didn't get any rubberbanding or hitches.

Sorry I missed the game last night... I decided to go play poker with some friends... Lost 50 bucks... You know how many hattes that could have gotten!!!

New server seems to work a lot better.

Best moment of the evening for me: me (as a spy) killing Brainz (as a spy)! I will cherish that memory forever.

I think the server may have been even worse, personally. Saw a ton of lag and rubber-banding, especially when we got up to (and over) 24. I think it was worst on Goldrush.

So which is it? Is it better or worse for most people?

I only saw rubber-banding on Latrine. There were very occasional lag spikes but nothing horrible. When we scrimmed on the old server on Wednesday, it went into slide-show mode a number of times. Nothing even remotely approaching that for me. I was on for Forever Well when we were playing 14 a side.

Caveat: I don't play twitch classes so it is entirely possible that I am less sensitive to some of this stuff than others.

Needs more time being full to tell if its a better server.

Right, but besides that I couldn't rightly tell if it was performing better, as my connection was shaky last night. It did seem smoother when my ping was normal, but that may just be confirmation bias.

Maybe we get an off day private game going?

Did we install those two new maps, the CTF attack one sounded really interesting.

My ping was worse with the new server but at least I wasn't teleporting around and stuff, so overall it's better =)

Well, I certainly did better later on in the night that earlier on. I guess I got more into the game and left the other stuff nagging me in the back of my mind behind as time went on. This might come off as obvious to some, but usually I can deal with this sort of thing just fine. I suppose it is worse than usual, but... still.

Generally, I install maps that are PMed to me but not maps that are brought up in this thread. Mostly because I hate searching this thread looking for a map that was referenced a few days ago. So if you want a map tried out PM Brainz or I and it is much more likely to happen.

Good games tonight guys. Sorry if I sucked or did some non kosher stuff. I haven't played TF2 in about three years.

That part where you started romancing that pig was not cool.

Performance on the new private was comparable for me. I had two instances where it got stuttery and warpy, but things were otherwise fine. (I don't often have bad rubber-banding on the existing private either).

I've added Swarfigo to the TF2 group. Swarfigo, the general rule of thumb is that the private server password is for folks above Coffee Grinder (posting a bunch today would easily put you over that threshold).

I also want to take a moment to mention the shift in tone we've had on the server in the past week or two. Avoiding belittling, argumentative, and unsportsmanlike play is one of the reasons I play this primarily with Goodjers. Folks in this community should be (and are) better than that. If that's behavior which adds spice to your gaming and you really can't live without it, there are a lot of servers out there which I suspect will be a better fit.

Am I still allowed to call Psych a jerk?

In all seriousness though, I know what you mean. In some cases it's going beyond joking (like the whole Psych thing above) into more serious territory. It's not that bad at the moment, but I can see it evolving into something less desirable.

Yeah, I've noticed this as well, and I wonder if the competitive tournament mindset is causing people to behave badly? Or may be it's just that people are stressed now and venting via TF2?

Anyhow, I've noticed a lot more complaining on the (public) server. Some complaining (e.g. about unlucky facestabs/crits) is natural and expected, but insulting your own team is way over the line. Mostly this is pubbies, but they probably need to be called on it more often.

Er, do we still have a MOTD on the public server?

I don't know how much stock I put into the MOTD preventing obnoxious behavior. We certainly should have a general code of conduct up there, but more importantly we should all be adhering to it and pointing it out to folks when they are not. There was a guy on last night, Mixd or Mizd who was walking a fine line. I asked him politely to watch his language and tone and he improved. He was a decent player, so I was glad I asked him to cool it instead of just kicking him.

Good games last night.

Fedora, what exactly are you doing here with 'Manne Eater'?

And they call it heavy looooooove

This is an important question.

I think trap has a point, this all started around the time of the tourney. I know I get worked up come tourney time, but it seams like everyone is playing to win now.

Take your "heavy love" to another server buddy!

Wow.

Can we play this?

Love that song. And I think I'd be even more disoriented on maps if we started running this but I'd say totally worth it. haha.

As a nerd I feel the need to point out we are on page 1138.
