*Release* Rift Catch-All - if it isnt for any of the other threads - it goes here

There has been no mention of deleting the alpha client to install the live client.

I copied my alpha files into the steam RIFT directory and it patched the launcher and then said I was not authorised to play :(. Hoping maybe this will save a few hours of downloading.

I'll just do a fresh download, I expected Steam to give me a download, but it just gave me the starter client that allows you to eventually download the full game. Hopefully it will allow me to do that tomorrow.

I know we have already decided Shatterbone but in case anyone was curious:

I'm going to make a plea for Belmont.

1) It was an excellent, popular server in beta with good players and organized guilds on it
2) Castlevania is cool
3) I have a lot of IRL friends rolling on that server
4) Shatterbone makes me snicker every time I hear it because I am immature
5) I live in a town called Belmont

You don't need to worry about the fact that it starts with the letter "B" because they sort server by lowest pop anyway.

I believe Shatterbone was the choice and will remain so unless we have a huge change in opinion from previous posts. Speak now or forever hold your Reeses Pieces.

Doesn't matter to me where, or which, server ... but if we're changing, then someone needs to make a damn command decision on it pretty quick as far as I'm concerned.

Last I heard - I thought Shatterbone was a done deal, so that's what I've communicated out to 2 separate groups of folks who are rolling their chars on it along with us. And if we're going to change then I need to be able to tell their Com-O so he can tell his folks and we can all stay in sync.

Frankly, I think any server we pick is going to have it's pros and cons in terms of people ... it's all arbitrary to me. Just pick one and let's roll with it. From where I sit, Shatterbone's as good as any - and better'n most since it lets me keep my comm chain nice and simple.

But, that's just me ... I'll do whatever the majority wants -- but let's work something out so I have time to relay it.

Didn't really know where to put the screenshot, so I figured here was good ...

One last parting shot of Telara, as seen from ???

Just got my email letting em know i can start installing the final client. It does require a new install for those who were running beta and didn't download it from steam. If you did do a steam download you just need to patch it.

Let the count down begin!

another question:

What class/souls will allow me to do any of the following?

Lock another player down. Movement and action.
Restrict movement
high burst dmg
damage avoidance through evasion, shields or heals

To toss another kink in whats available to do this with range and if possible melee?

How hard/easy is it to completely respec if you dont like your original build?

Reason i'm asking is that if i end up playing i'll probably join you guys here, but even though it'll be pve oriented i want to PvP as much as possible. I was thinking that mage would offer this, but after reading the forums mages are having some issues in pvp against other classes.

Sounds like you want a rogue, Ran. Most of the rogue souls have at least some of the elements you describe. I think you'll dig marksman for sure.

Mages are probably the worst way to go if you are PvP focused. Rogues (Marksman) are your best bet ranged DPS. You can mix Marksman with Riftblade for survivability.

As for respecting it is easy and is really the focus of the game. You can have 4 different specs (any soul combination you want) prepared at any one time and the cost to reset one of them is negligible.

Bard (rogue) gets an instacast?? perma-mez at rank 34. Maybe rank 32?? Decent insta dmg, ranged attacks and heals. Plus riftstalker/bard, makes you a tank who can do all that.

Mez is only 15s, but on an 8s cooldown I think.

Any word on when they'll allow us to patch up our client or they having everyone slam into it tommorow?

Shatterbone is the server. Clients should be able to patch now. Mine is doing so as I type.

Champion as a warrior and night blade as rogue may be worth looking at Ran.

I'm all patched up and ready to go!!!!
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited!!!! (not sure if you guys were picking up on that)

I am downloading right now from steam and thinking about time it is done will be 2/24. Too bad this work thing always gets in the way.

He lives!! Long time no see Mal.

Just caught this and it had some good tips and thing that i know a few people were asking about/ didn't know yet while we were playing beta, like what all that icon means when you participate in a Rift!

So my fiancée just got me this as an early birthday present. I'm currently downloading, but being in Ireland it will talk another ten hours to finish. Never mind the fact that it has already been ten hours. God, I can't wait to come back to the States

In any case, it seems that the consensus here is Shatterbone. Now my fiancée has a friend that plays, but I'm not sure on what server. How many characters can one have in this game? And can these characters be spread across servers, WoW style?

6 characters per server.

Sweet. In that case I shall also be making a toon on Shatterhand, or Shatterbrick, or Shatterboner, or whatever it was called For the Defiant! Wait, that's not right, is it?

Shatterbone Defiant.

I know. I was attempting humor and, apparently, failing. Certis, where are those damn /sarcasm and /warning: joke! tags?

Ever since playing a Coercer in EQ2 I've been looking for other games that have that type of class. So far, no luck. From what I've read of Rift it doesn't seem they really have any combo of souls that would fill the bill. Let me know if I'm wrong.

The coercer was almost purely crowd control, they could lock down enemies permanently with a combo of mezzes and stuns, they could possess enemies to fight for them and most of their damage spells were reactive that caused the enemies to damage themselves when they attacked or used skills. It was a tough class to play but the tactical side of it was just fantastic. I know it seems like cc classes have fallen out of favor over the last few years but does anyone know of any class anywhere that might play like that? (aside from going back to EQ2 of course)

I believe dominator (mage archtype) is probably the closest thing to what you describe. The people with more experience might swing the correction bat at me though.

I've been playing WoW for years now, and I've played a MUD for more years before that, as well as having dabbled a bit in Age of Conan and LotR. I've never heard the term 'mezzes' before though. What does it mean?

Just a reminder to hop on GWJ vent for the head start if you're so inclined.
