Loved Risen. Tagging.

Piranha Bytes loves pirates I guess, using the setting again after Gothic II: Night of the Raven.

Tagged. Also, I need to finish Risen. It was great, but I kept getting sidetracked.

Ditto. Really ashamed to admit it too.

More islands? That's about the only negative reaction I have to this. I'm just glad that Risen did well enough to warrant a second. I hope Gothic 4 tanked enough that the expansion will be the last we hear of it.

I thought I liked Risen well enough, but Two Worlds II outclassed it in my eyes in all regards. I don't really have room in my heart for more than two or so huge WRPGs, and DA2/Skyrim loom.

I liked the demo for Risen, but it never got enough of a price cut for me to impulse buy. Following.

It was $15 on Steam a few months back; how low is your impulse buy point?

Any information about being able to play the game from first-person perspective?

For games I'm interested in on Steam, $10. Otherwise, $5.

Woot! Just played through Risen this month, and it was very good. Love the crazy medium-budget Euro-CRPGs,

I think me and you are the opposites when it comes to what we like our perspectives to be in games.

Word.

Puce, you seem to loooove that perspective.

I much prefer to see my character.

I think I've been spoiled by games like Fallout 3 where the option is always available; one button press, and you can shift from 1st person to 3rd person perspective . It's probably a matter of development resources, but I always get annoyed when the option isn't available in large open-world games.

Likely the main source of irritation for me is how far they zoom out the camera in most 3rd person perspective games. I love to zoom in to look at the textures on book titles, paintings, posters, monsters, plants, clocks, chamberpots, rugs, rump-roasts, curtain rods, hackey sacks, toilet paper, muffin trays, lawnmowers, sex swings, etc., etc., and quite frequently you just don't get much fine zoom control in games that don't have a 1st person option (although I'm obviously hoping that Risen 2 will, as it's not been announced either way yet.)

Deep Silver published. They rarely discount their games that low. What's the cheapest Sacred 2 has been? $20? $15? And that games is a couple years older than Risen.

Since we don't have a release date, you may be able to fit Risen 2 in also.

DEEP SILVER REVEALS RISEN 2™: DARK WATERS

Piranha Bytes team to explore uncharted territories

21st February 2011 – Hampshire, UK/… Deep Silver and Piranha Bytes today officially revealed their new game Risen 2™: Dark Waters, the successor of the popular role-playing game Risen™. With an expanded setting, a fresh story and characters and an all-new technical foundation, Risen 2 will expand the success of the Risen franchise worldwide.

Set several years after the end of Risen, raging titans have devastated the world and pushed humanity to the brink of existence. Subsequently, monstrous creatures have risen from the watery depths of the sea and their attacks have brought all seafaring to a grinding halt. The hero, now a member of the Inquisition, is sent out to find out how to stop the chaos caused by these creatures from the deep. His quest begins with rumors that the pirates who frequent the southern islands are the only ones who know a way to get rid of the creatures once and for all and end their reign of terror.

With an all-new pirate-based theme, Risen 2: Dark Waters aims to combine the most loved classic RPG gameplay mechanics of the original Risen with a fresh theme and setting on a huge variety of themed island locales. A third-person role-playing game set in a dark and gritty universe, Risen 2: Dark Waters maintains the most immersive features of the original Risen, withmultiple approaches to every challenge allowing players to shape the game world based on their own decisions. These choices will serve to unlock new paths, features and additional skills for the character. Together with a highly interactive environment and a full day/night-cycle affecting countless aspects of the game world, Risen 2 will be set in the most immersive RPG game world so far.

The eagerly-awaited successor of Risen will set sail worldwide for consoles and PC. For a first immersion into Risen 2: Dark Waters, three illustrations giving a first glimpse of the beautiful new game world can be found on the official game teaser site at www.risen2.com.

I grabbed Risen when it was $15 on Steam. I think it's going to be a summer game for me this year.

God bless Piranha Bytes. May they live long and prosper.

Pass. I found Risen barely playable...until about the halfway point where it suddenly turned into a never-ending dungeon crawl. Also, 4 games in and they still have a terrible interface and combat system, I don't have any hope that will be rectified here.

God I loved Risen (exept the ending of course).

I just don't understand how the game came out so freakin bug-free considering this is from the makers of Gothic. I've been cautiously hoping to see a sequel to this. Now I just need to wait for it to come out.

Simple, it wasn't published by JoWood.

Missed this thread.. I thought Risen was decent enough that I would certainly give a sequel a look.. I like the "piratey" backdrop as well.

Releasing on May 15th ... aka Diablo III day.

Edit: Nvm, it's not on the 22nd of May.

Risen 2 is up as a pre-order on Steam.

Wow. That took an unexpected turn into Pirates of the Caribbean waters...

But hey, it's Risen. Those guys earned my money 3 times over. So most likely a day one purchase.

Yup! Risen was a great game. Probably one of the most fun I've ever played. Really looking forward to their take on being a pirate. Curious to see how exploring the islands work.

Risen 2 is now available for pre-load on Steam.
