Official Team Fortress 2 Game Nights (PC)

Hey guys, if you see a guy by the name of brouhaha kicking around, show him no mercy. He is a friend of mine from work who I have converted to TF2. ukick, he was the scout who waited for the level 1 tele. I explained his mistake to him and he repented. Give him a warm Stans welcome and stab him in the face/back. He should be poking his head into the thread to say hi.

Any objections if I give him the password to the private?

I've seen him on the pubbie a few times. Does he have a mic? I can't remember. Anyway he seems like a nice enough guy. IIRC he has posted on the forums a little bit too.

He must post on here. Don't care if he's a coffee grinder as he's your friend but he hast to post on here. Carrotpanic, that goes for your friend, too.

Haha, I remember that. So many new people to initiate on the private server!

He does post on here. I'm a little tired of the non-stop inquisition about this.

Yeah I am all for getting new people in the game, but I would prefer we keep the private to people who actually participate in the community. The pub has been so active lately, there isn't a shortage of opportunities for new people (friends, etc) to play with GWJers there.

I didn't expect that. Natch.

Agreed Erik and Evilhomer. He does not get a free pass.

You wouldn't get questions about it if anybody knew who he was. That's not a shot at him or at you, it's just that he doesn't post very much. The whole point of the private server is that it's for members of the GWJ community, and we have had issues in the past (which you may not be familiar with) where the server password got handed out like candy to individuals none of us had ever seen.

Look at it this way: people being protective of the community is a feature, not a bug.

I understand. I'll state what I have said to several GWJ TF2 Illuminati here publicly:

-Yes, he is a member of GWJ
-No, he doesn't post much (wife, kids, etc., it's just a choice)
-Before I ever gave him the password I asked the people on the server (the usual crew) and got support and no dissent
-He's not a griefer and is a team player
-I have never given the password out to any of my other friends who play who have asked
-I understand the guarded nature, and I don't think I've violated anything, especially since I asked first
-If you don't want us on, that's fine, but it's made me feel a little unwelcome

We're all adults. It's just a game and there are plenty of places we can play instead (and when he's not on I'll still probably play on Stan's).

Now, everyone drink a beer!

I had never seen him before last week so I asked a few people about it. No one knew he posted here (I don't believe Brainz knew him either). Now that Brainz and I know he posts here we should only accost him/you after we've had too many beers.

That reminds me, I'm running low...

So apparently we had some warping on the new private server last night. What do you guys think about disabling Sourcemod/Metamod for a couple of rounds tonight with a full private server? Maybe that will shed some light on the issue.

I think it's worth a shot. This way we'll know if it's the server itself, or if Sourcemod is contributing to some of the issues.

I was on another server last night with Sourcemod that was having similar problems. It sounded like they have been having the problem for a while as well so it very well could have something to do with it.

As long as someone with rcon can change maps we may as well

Yes please, the sooner the better.

The trees are swaying outside. It's mesmerizing.

What.

I said this like 4 weeks ago

And, I think I agreed with you. Or, at least, I did in my head.

You did sir

You know, the weird thing is I never even played Team Fortress classic, but I really wanted to play TF2 because of the art style and stuff.

Well, we can only troubleshoot so many potential sources of the problem at any one time. I checked the sourcemod forums when you first mentioned this a few weeks back, and didn't see any indication there of a problem. The only other place I found it brought up was SPUF, and you know how reliable those guys are.

Troubleshooting this is really frustrating, so bear with us.

Same here. If it was just another FPS I doubt I'd still be playing.

It was so nice. Pyros were useless. Spies could backstab instantly without huge warm ups and delays and had a tranq gun which would slow the enemy down. There was grenade spam like you wouldn't believe. Medics were the top offensive class because they had decent grenades and a concussion grenade with which to jump great distances. If they hit an enemy with their health bag it would give them a disease or something. If that enemy touched an ally of his, that person would also get sick. So you had idiots going into respawn and getting everyone sick. The difference between an excellent player and an average player was astounding, much greater than it is in TF2.

Oh yeah, I'm not blaming anyone, sorry if it sounded like that. When the problem first started I noticed several servers I frequented had the same rubber banding/lag issues. They were on different providers and the only common denominator was Sourcemod so I thought it might be worth a shot. Thanks for all you do with the servers.

Do we have the newest snapshot of the development branch?

Gumbie wrote:

No, the server just autoupdates to the latest stable version. If we see any improvement after disabling tonight, we can look into the dev branch builds.

EDIT: As of right now, the server is Sourcemod/Metamod free. Come join and let's give it a stress test!

Man, I really want to play some TFC. It has been so long. We ought to have a TFC game night sometime.

Who else loved planting the detpack in spawn before teams were switched? Or watching disease infected noobs run into their spawn?

My favorite was the Mega TF mod, dropping a mag mine under the spawn door and watching the heavy get crushed by his own door.
